Why haven't Paul's Pokemon turned on him at any point? There have been numerous examples in the anime of Pokemon ignoring, refusing to battle for or even flat-out assaulting their trainers if they feel mistreated, or just for the hell of it (Ash's Charizard comes to mind in all three cases). Considering Paul's heartless mentality (no doubt they've seen many of their fellows go the way of those Starly, Azumarill and Chimchar), tendency to let Pokemon go if they screw up even once (must be rather stressful, yes?) and the way he treats his creatures like tools of war, there's little to keep Ursaring, Weavile and the like from turning him into a chew-toy, or at the very least flat out refusing to fight for him. So why don't they?

Well, Paul has badges from 4 regions at this point I think and is in general a strong trainer so his Pokemon probably respect him and trust that he's making them stronger.

Presumably because they also believe in his training style. Its like cult followers, they don't know any better, or they do and just believe its the right way.

In the anime, the pokemon have personalities too. They can take on the personality of their trainers, like ash and pikachu. In paul's case, they just have that "Must win at all costs" mentality and will do whatever it takes. All emotions aside, eyes towards victory, even if it means they are "evil" or whatever, they just dont care.

Yeah, I agree with this

Paul actually treated most of his main Pokemon decently. Torterra for example, Correct me if I am wrong but I do not remember him mistreating it or any other of his main Pokemon to chimchar levels. Even so it is still surprising they do not try to leave such a cold trainer.

Because Paul isn't as much as an asshole as everyone thinks. Cold to Ash, yeah because *shocker* he doesn't LIKE Ash(What? Who could hate Ash?!), so he's a jerk to him. To his Pokemon? Yeah, he might have harsh training methods, but he treats his Pokemon well. He releases the ones that he thinks are weak because he wants to be strong, and it's usually before the Pokemon even get attached to him. What's wrong with him releasing them back to the wild, their homes?

Him releasing Chimchar was just his way of basically giving up, and being fed up with Chimchar not being able to produce results that Paul wanted. Yeah, he should've kept Chimchar and had some faith, but it's realistic, some people just don't settle for less. He used a tough love method on Chimchar because he saw that it didn't have the same "Fight hard or go home" thinking as the rest of his team, he tried to toughen it up, that's all.

Actually I really don't see how bonding with pokemon will give flawless victories. As long as there's a strategy in each one of us, winning battles can be done easily.Paul easily beated Ash's pokemon because the whole time Ash always believed that faith alone can really help him win.But if you're talking about pokemon that require affection to evolve, then yeah that is something Ash is capable of doing.

To be frank I really don't like Ash much because of several reasons. He hardly makes an effort to evolve his novelty Pokemon and that faith alone that gives him victories is too amusing. But I don't have a choice. This show is much better than the cartoons that are out now.Right?

Btw I'm very curious to know if Paul still has his Ninjask. It could be the first time the baton pass move will be used in the anime.Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think that Paul actually has a good relationship with his pokemon. Not the 'weak' pokemon of course, but I'm guessing he likes Torterra, Electrivire etc.

Most Pokémon, with all their potential powers and abilties, are normally incapable of making deliberate decisions such as "Turn on their own trainer out of social justice". Pokémon, under human command, normally look towards people as their main source of directives and moral guidence.

It's the main reason why evil teams are capable of using Pokémon to achieve their own ends without the Pokémon rebelling against their masters.

Anyway, some Pokémon respond better to certain training methods then others. The anime portrays Paul as a harsh person whose only interest is power, but at the same time, it might be considered an honor to be one of these strong Pokémon to such a trainer.

Actually Paul hasn't been shown as mean lately in the Anime. Like when monferno evolved he didn't say anything but we'll battle in the sinnoh league. And when he beat Barry he told him he put up a good fight.

The reason they dont turn on him is because he makes them stronger. Even though he seems seems stubborn and arrogant, he actually cares about his pokemon especially his Electivire. In Fighting Ire with Fire, he yelled when his Electabuzz was almost crushed. He hasnt abused any of his pokemon, so there is no reason they'd turn on him.

He doesn't mistreat his pokemon, he's just strict, using tough love as a method of getting better. When Honchkrow lost to Staraptor, He didn't release it did he? He just scolded it because it apparently needed to work on its reaction time. Before Turtwig evolved into Grotle, remember he was resting all of his Pokemon, even having Torterra's tree trimmed. He doesn't pamper them, but he respects them and treats them well.

His pokemon don't turn on him because he's the only way they know. If your parents are violent, then you'll probably end up violent aswell. They're like cult followers, they believe he is how they can get better at life (Which is for them, battling).

He doesn't mistreat his pokemon? I completely disagree. I think he works them too hard. Maybe go back and watch the episodes where it shows Paul's training methods. He has all of his pokemon attack Chimchar at the same time. That doesn't seem "strict" to me. It seems cruel.

Hmmmm if his methods are different its his pokemon his training why care if its cruel or not? Silver must've done the same thing in the HG/SS but I dont really think its too bad since his pokemon (especially the starter) catch me by surprise too often

Yeah, I would agree that he actually treats his Pokemon and possibly other trainers quite differently than he treats Ash or his on-screen treatment of Chimchar.

Here are a couple of quotes from the show that will give us all some information:

Glory Blaze!-Dawn; “I’m assuming that you treat all of your

Pokemon this way?!”

Paul-“No, this is exactly what Chimchar wants!”

See, Chimchar was getting beaten and battered simply because it wanted to grow stronger and I am sure that Paul convinced the little chimp that the only way it would be of any worth was to control Blaze. This lets me know that he doesn’t do this to his other Pokemon. Also it was already mentioned how he cried out when Electabuzz was about to be crushed by the cage or when he saw that Chimchar was being kidnapped by TR (he scolded it after he saved it, but before that the look on his face showed his unwillingness for it to be kidnapped).

I remember when Dawn made the comment; “I guess there are different types of trainers out there, but I just wonder what Chimchar and Elekid think of Paul…” I have always wanted an answer to that question because it would explain a lot about the goings on between Paul and his Pokemon.

Then in “Chim-charred” when Paul recalls Electabuzz “We’re wasting time, return now!” Just look at the way Electabuzz looks at Paul, but it could just be its normal face. It was right after he and Ash had an exchange of words and right before Chimchar called out to him and they would have a battle. Just watch that part and see Electabuzz’s expression to see what I mean.

I think that his Pokemon want to grow stronger and are willing to take any critisim or scolding if it results in them becoming more powerful. Torterra was his starter so it is natural that it is Paul’s most loyal Pokemon. I think that it may keep the others in order in case there was any sort of mutiny in the team.

Well he did blame his Honchkrow from losing the pokeringer contest...but then again it was a bit slow when it was gonna reach the ring. And it gave a sad expression to paul before getting back to its pokeball. But that's just me.

Now for some reason I admire Paul more than Ash.

Paul has his own limits when it comes to training pokemon and none of them match up with Ash obviously. If Ash didn't leave all of his strong Pokemon behind when he starts a new region his team would be Incredible. I hope he takes Gible to Isshu.

Back back to Paul.. I don't have a problem with the way he trains his pokemon one bit. He is training MONSTERS to battle other MONSTERS. If anything Paul is waaay tooo soft.
