There is supposed to be some dazzling fancy meteor thing going on tonight. I would like to know who is watching it.
Here's a link to the yahoo story

Also, while I was watching it, I saw 2 really really small red dots about the size of a needle head, too far away for an airplane. Trust me, I live near a Air Base. One wasn't flashing but it was moving really fast across the sky, I eventually lost it, but it was kinda cool to see.

The second was changing between red and blue lights, not flashing, it was changing colors. It was pretty fast as well. Too fast for an airplane from our base at that height. All of a sudden it turned a bright white and then vanished. I starred intently on that spot for about 5 minutes and never saw anything else.

Both of these were too slow to be a meteor, yet too fast to be an airplane at that altitude.
Kinda weird if you ask me.

Um, you spelled "shinies" wrong.

I saw a whole... 2. I noticed that there were a whole bunch of airplanes around, though. Interesting....

I'll go out again after 1 (12:27 now). I heard that's when it peaks.

Not according to my handy dandy Mozilla Firefox dictionary I have.

Yea, there were several airplanes here as well.
I was out for a while around 10ish and I only saw like 8.
Then I went out at 1:20 until about 2 or so and I saw about 30-40 of all sizes. It was pretty cool.

"Shinnies" are the sticks used to play ice/street/field hockey (shinny). That appears in a dictionary.
"Shinies" won't appear in a dictionary because people don't (normally) use the word "shiny" as a noun.
Believe me, the word you're looking for is "shinies." The extra "n" makes the first "i" short as in "shin," not long as in "shiny."

You're lucky. I did a similar thing (~1:13-1:57) and only saw 10. The last was spectacular, but I only saw it in my peripheral vision....

I was really hoping to get a glimpse of the Perseids, but I couldn't get a good peek with some light cloud cover.

Also didn't help that I had to be up at 5AM grr. >:|

O ok. Well thanks, I'll fix it when eventually get another shiny

That sucks. The whole reason I saw so many was because I live out in the country, so not much light to pollute the sky with. There was also no clouds overhead so it was perfect.
Most of those 30 or so I saw were from peripheral vision as well.
