PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - is known for taking some wild stands against various forms of entertainment. But its most recent target is a rather surprising one - everyone's favorite plumber, Mario.

In a mini-site called Mario Kills Tanooki, PETA is lampooning the plumber for his new Tanooki Tail Power-Suit, claiming it encourages the wearing of fur.

"When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy - even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers," the site asserts. "Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur."

Wow, I never imagined PETA going this far...

Whatever next, PETA; I don't know if I should find them hilarious or disturbing. They're about 23 years too late to complain about this. Better not tell them about Mario's penguin and frog suits. XD

I wonder if these guys have campaigned against Pokemon before.

PETA: Attention whoring at it's finest.

Also, SMB3 had the raccon suit, so they were LATE!

Do they not realize that Mario's been wearing that tanooki suit since SMB3, which was more than 20 years ago? Are they really that slow or failed to do the research?

Sigh, it's called the grandfather clause. Mario already used it before it became a social issue, so he's allowed to keep doing it.

Guess why Duck Hunt is still being sold on virtual console.

Ugh, PETA needs to stop and focus on other and more sensible things to promote animal welfare like helping at animal hospitals, rescue groups, humane societies and shelters, educate at zoos and other wildlife refuges and aquariums like normal people do instead of a video game or other trivial things. I love animals myself but complaining over something in a video game is too trivial, They are the real world Team Plasma

Keep in mind, PETA has been doing this in the past, all they care about is if they get in the news today.

PETA isn't an animal rights group.

They might call themselves such, but they solely want publicity, driving some BS messages and doing insane things. They are trolls and/or lunatics.
They harm animals more than slaughterhouses, ridicule animal wellfare groups, and mess with everyone for the sake of publicity.

Comparing them to Team Plasma, the later falls short, but it's a good enough comparision: See how blatant Team Plasma is on how they are evil and don't really give a crap about Pokémon? That's PETA.

This one incident is just small attention-whoring, but PETA has done terrible things.

And guess what? Their publicity works. Plenty of people who don't know better associate loving animals to PETA.

Agreed Will thay every learn to stop trolling and complainin? Though the chances of that are zero I think. I think people need to ignore these so called activists that they claim to be. Everytime I see some news article relating to them making some absurd claims, I would simply ignore it. Yes indeed they are similar to Team Plasma. They don't care about animals and just want attention/ Talk about juvenile....

As long as they bitch loud enough, they will get coverage. Just look at the WBC or other RL troll groups.

Sounds like a shitty attempt at backpedaling to me.

I'm done being confounded by PETA. When they target the book of Genesis for portraying serpents negatively, I won't bat an eye.

They're picking on Mario for wearing a Tankuni Suit for a single game, yet completely ignore his turtle stomping, which he's been doing for nearly his entire career as a video game character?
