I was quite saddened there was no PetalburgShipping thread, so therefore, I decided to make one. This shipping is probably my all time favorite het pairing, and possibly the only het pairing I truuuly support down to the core. I mean, I'm even tempted to call it an OTP because I love it so much. Anyway, that's aside the point.

May and Max are meant for each other. Yes, yes, they're brother and sister (psssh!) but I will admit that's an aspect that makes me like their pairing even more. Go incest. I mean, there's no better relationship in someone's life than with their sibling, so why not? Siblings are, after all, the only people who seem to accept you for who you are and what you do no matter what. Of course, there are exceptions and some people are cursed with bastardly siblings, but for the most part, siblings rock.

So, anyway, I just wanted a thread mainly so I can discuss and/or debate this grand and obviously canon, duh pairing. Haha.

I enjoy the relationship between May and Max. The May's wish subplot in Jirachi: Wishmaker was sweet and their form of sibling rivalry has carried a few episodes well. Oh, and I loved May's reaction to Misty's comment to Max at the end of A Real Cleffa-Hanger.

It ain't romance but they're closer to each other than they are to anyone else.

I just loove this shippy. It's right up there with all my favourites. Siblings are so very close, and Max and May are definitely no exception! In my opinion, they're closer than most other siblings I've seen in anime..

They'll find out that they need each other even more now that they have parted ways. I really think that May will come back for her brother after her Johto adventure.. They just belong with each other! <3

See, I definitely support this as romance because, to me, they just couldn't successfully be involved with anyone else, seeing as they both have some issues. But, romance or not, I love any aspect of their relationship -- I just like taking it a step further because teh grand incest~!11!

Speaking of when May left for Johto... I can only imagine the heartbreak Max endured. I mean, I can definitely see him pulling an attitude with May and refusing to say goodbye to her. I totally support May's independence with going out on her own and not wanting to rely on anyone, but I still can't bear the thought of little Max all alone, the poor child. Seriously, you know he'd be so lonely! *cries*

Is the incest factor really something prevents so many people from supporting this pairing? Because, to me, I don't even care, aside from the fact that's one of the reasons why I do tend to ship it.

Hehe, yes, incest goes against what "society" thinks.. But I hate what society thinks anyway. To me, love knows no age or what your blood line consists of.

Well, we saw it. He got over it when his dying love for Ash kicked in but this thread isn't for AlfShipping so I'll just say that I hope we'll see more interaction between May and Max in the future. I think May will let Max have responsibility over her Pokémon in Petalburg like how Tracey looks after Ash's Oaked Pokémon.

Lots of siblings aren't close. I'm certainly not close to my brother. May and Max obviously do have a close sibling relationship, though.

And I just get all excited and happy inside when the two have a little emotional scene with each other. One of my favorites is probably when Max runs to May in the Ralts episode at the end with that sad music. I did get teary eyes at the part. xD

And theres so many other moments in the show, and the movies, especially the Jirachi one. LOVE. <3

I actually felt hurt for Max in the last AG episode, where May told him he couldn't come with her to Johto. I know how bad he must have been hurting inside. D:

And nah, I'm not really close with my brothers either. I guess I'm more close to my little one than my older one. They both annoy the hell outta me, but thats what siblings do, right?

Personally, I think people who *like* a ship for a certain generic characteristic (e.g. het/yaoi/yuri/incest) that has nothing to do with the compatibility or quality of interaction between the individual characters have no right to be upset or even annoyed over people who *dislike* a ship for the same generic characteristic. If one side is shallow, then the other side is as well.

That being said, I can see the validity of Petalburgshipping, though I'm not a huge fan of it. I'd probably support it more if I saw the Jirachi movie (which is the one movie out in English so far that I haven't seen), given what I've heard about what happens in it.

That's true - Max takes care of a lot of her Pokemon already, so I can easily see that happening when he got back to Petalburg.

Ahhh, but what if someone said, "I don't like this shipping mostly because (some character-related reason), but also because it's incest"? You'd probably try to debate the former point reasonably, but I suspect you'd *still* be tempted to slap a "narrowminded and shallow" label on the second point, which would be hypocritical of you, but understandable as I myself have a predilection for the slash factor and I do still feel like rolling my eyes when people go "ewww yaoi" (but to be fair I feel the same way when I see some crazed yaoi fangirls go "ewww het").

At any rate, you get credit for liking the ship due to canonically valid reasons based on characterization and interaction, rather than just because they're sibilings.

And no one can deny that May and Max get the greatest number of non-accidental canon hugging scenes.
