That Legendary Beast mix at the end... simply epic. Sent shivers down my spine

I think these non-battle based ones (when curb stomps aren't appropriate), work out the best.

Also ironic for any readers of Reset Bloodlines: apparently the author had a point about Johto people being jerks and more likely to abuse Pokemon.

So is that the death of the Eeveelution theory? 'Cause those definitely didn't look like Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon. ;)

Either way, I was hoping they'd do this one. Pretty cool. "Rainbow-colored shining power" or whatever it was was a hella awkward description, though.

Perhaps those were Chinese region Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon?

What I don't understand is why the people blame Suicune, Entei, and Raikou when it was Ho-Oh (aka the Pokemon of rejuvenation) who defied their death... and even then, why would you be angry that Pokemon were alive anyway?

Pretty good episode, I liked how they retold the Legendary Beasts' story here. I do like the addition of humans being initially violent towards them being the cause of them roaming the region, it's an interesting addition to a story that hasn't had as much depth to it before. Also, the music was pretty well done, I loved the remix of the Legendary Beast and Kimono Girls themes.

It seems that the reaction was because they saw it as an abomination, something unnatural that shouldn't have happened, and attacked them as a result. So it was less 'who was responsible?' and 'more why did this even happen!?'

Foreshadowing for something?

....I really need an image of Gnoggstin's crazy faces from his Son and Moon videos to post when I comment like that.

Trade missions, animals are often traded. The Chinese trade missions brought back giraffes, and Ecruteak City is based on Kyoto, which was the capital of Old Japan. It also feels like the most sensible place for a Johto Capital in game.

I mean, I guess. But while I'll admit that saying they're Chinese variant of the Eeveelutions is a clever workaround, it's also going a bit far to preserve the theory when we don't even know if such Pokémon exist. :p

Actually I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in HGSS, in a book somewhere in Ecruteak. I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: Here it is. It's actually said by an NPC.

> "In the distant past...When this tower burned in a fire, three nameless Pokémon perished in it. Then, a rainbow-hued Pokémon descended from the sky and somehow brought them back...The people were afraid of power such as the rainbow-hued Pokémon had shown. They tried to control it by force. The nameless Pokémon made no attempt to fight back. Instead, their great sorrow compelled them to leave. This legend has been passed down by the Ecruteak Gym Leader. Me? I was a Trainer way back when. Ho ho ho!"

I swear it was mentioned at least one other time, but I'm having trouble finding that quote.

Edit 2: Ah, here was the bit I was (mis)remembering. It was the one from the book, and it only talks about them roaming.

> "Ecruteak was also home to three Pokémon that raced around the town. They were said to have been born of water, lightning, and fire. But they could not contain their excessive power. So they say the three ran like the wind off into the grassland."

People will do things like that with fan theories, or have you ever watched any fandom (Naruto, Harry Potter, MLP, etc), react to new chapters or author comments?

It's better than trying to say 'Shippuden, Book #, Season # doesn't count' in my book.

Ah, so it was a slight change to their legend (trying to control them vs. outright attacking them) rather then a complete addition, I could've sworn it was completely new. I must've skipped over that piece of dialogue when I was playing through the game.

That is true. Though personally I have to agree with something @Silktree said a while back when we were discussing the possibility of this sort of flashback, that the three Pokémon have always been described as "nameless" and probably aren't meant to be anything recognizable.

Nevertheless, I find it interesting that they became Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. I'm of the opinion that there are multiples of most Legendary Pokémon species, especially the ones that comprise the minor trios/duos or standalones. So my assumption would be that there were already some Raikou, Entei, and Suicune in existence... why did Ho-Oh turn the deceased Pokémon into those species? Unless these are actually the first examples of those species to exist, and then went on to breed more in the wild.

This episode was great. I loved seeing the backstory that we had only heard through text in motion.
And the beautiful ending makes it so it's just not an expository episode.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and look at how Eusine looks in this compared to The Legend of Thunder. The difference is night and day.

  • Eusine looks great. One of the best character designs so far. The art in general was fantastic this episode.
  • The game music adds so much personality.
  • "...the tower was once a beautiful place. Admired, loved, and exquisitely furnished..." I don't know, the last part makes me laugh when counted with the other two points.
  • "Rainbow-colored shining power."
This was a great episode, probably my favorite so far. It fleshed out Eusine, the legendary beasts, and the lore in general. I hope the rest of the episodes do the same.

My favourite episode so far. The silhouettes also more or less confirms that the legendary beasts weren't originally Eevee--though if they were, it would explain Ecruteak's affinity for them.

Perhaps the sages and Kimono girls of Ecruteak brought Eevee into the city as a way to apologize to the Legendary Beasts, Ho-Oh, and Lugia, by creating a relationship with these Pokemon to symbolize their relationship with the legendary Pokemon (Espeon and Umbreon representing the Yin/Yang dichotomy since the Fenghuang is supposed to represent the unification of the two).

The beasts were originally in Lugia's tower...so perhaps the unnamed Pokemon were also previously legendaries that were aligned with Lugia?
