Anybody have any theories where Ash's Pikachu gets all his power from? He's definately no ordinary Pikachu if Giovanni and Paul are interested in him.

Personally, I like to think Pikachu swallowed a Light Orb when he was young :D

That has to be the most reasonable fan explination and he can do a volt tackle so yeah. Otherwise he gets his powers from nowhere he just has em. Kinda like a Saiyan.

To be honest I think he's just an average Pikachu. If the Rocket-Dan were smart, they would've realized he was so powerful in the second episode because of the power boost he received.

I can't see that. It learned volt tackle when using quick attack and it just happened. Pokemon in anime don't learn moves by TM or holding things, do they? Pikachu learned iron tail in the first contest episode of Hoenn when the trainers Zigzagoon (I think) used it and Ash wanted pikachu to learn it too because it had a tail and could.

Does Giovanni ACTUALLY want Pikachu? Or does he kind of just say he does to preoccupy JJM and keep them out of the way? I can't remember if Giovanni has ever actually shown desire for it? I'm sure someone can help me out here....

And I think it's just a regular Pikachu who has incredible heart and determination! His incredible power comes from his remarkable relationship with Ash. :)

I'd agree with this, its been in so many battles and situations, of course its going to be very strong and more so than any of his other pokemon whom get Oaked eventually, but also Pikachu is never in a pokeball and gets to walk freely or be on ash shoulder and see the world with him.

"Giovanni" has mentioned it twice, both in wholly 4Kids-made material - that promo video with live actors and revoiced clips from the anime, and the Double Trouble song.

So no, he doesn't even know it exists, and most certainly wouldn't care about it if he did.

His cheeks.

I think it's just a strong Pikachu. And not even unnaturally strong, by anime standards, where "weak" Pokémon can do alright.

And I doubt Giovanni wants it; Jesse, James and Meowth just saw that it was strong and assumed it is something amazing and that he'd want it. An episode where they finally catch it and get it rejected by Giovanni (followed by its escape, of course) would be cool, and would free up Team Rocket for some more creative criminal activity.

You guys are kind of underrating it. I mean it DID take out a Regice for goodness' sake. To say it's average is ridiculous.

I think pikachu is a normal pikachu as well, team rocket just got lucky seeing him in his powerhouse moment and it was love at first sight.

It's true Ash has trained Pikachu for a very long time. But when they just began their journey, Pikachu was shown to be pretty powerful, even without any real training.
Plus, it doesn't make sense that Pikachu is only strong because of his long history with Ash. If that were the case, then he'd beat every pokemon in his way. Which hasn't happened.

Don't get me wrong though, I can understand why many of you believe Pikachu is just normal. An ordinary pikachu in the games would get pwned by a Regice. But in the anime, (anime) physics apply, and Ash can find lots of ways to get past Pikachu's shortcomings.
Plus, when a Magikarp puts up a good fight against Pikachu, you know you can't compare the anime to the games :p

Yea, I think that Pikachu is just normal in a physical sense. But obviously its heart and dtermination, not to mention its the star of the show make it extraordinary.

It's the same with Ash, much of the appeal in Pikachu/Ash is that they are relatively normal in body, but they are extraordinary and special and heroes because of their spirit and tenacity!

Well I think it's because Ash is the main character Pikachu is his first pokemon instead of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle and they were together for a LONG time so of course Pikachu is powerful

He rides his bike everyday!

*looks around*

You all got that right?

Oh, and I don't know if this is canon or not, but remember what Professor Oak said about Pikachu? That there was a problem with it?
Do you think the writers might have been implying something about Pikachu's power?
