Toonami UK, 7:00am and 4:30pm
Before we get to the first Weekly Pokemon Broadcasting Station dub, we get these two unreleased winter vacation shorts put into one episode. In the first short, all of Ash's pokemon gather together to help Santa's Delibird gather the presents. In the second short, Ash's pokemon make a giant snow Snorlax that then comes to life!

Post your thoughts about the episode here. Please mark any spoilers for episodes not that have yet to air in America in spoiler tags.

Has anyone actually seen these? Nobody's commented on them here or at SPP.

I certainly don't expect a "Legend of Thunder"-sized thread on this episode, but at the same time I didn't feel like I could just neglect making a thread for it just because it's not the long-anticipated "Raikou special dub" or the "Brock's mom" dub.

I tried to watch it, but had to turn it off five minutes in, screeching in pain.

Apart from not being able to pronounce Bulbasaur and some really dodgey narrative (It sounded like it was trying to rhyme.... yet didn't... o_O) the Dub was decent. I have to say, it's more than likely the original Pikachus Winter Vacation that sucks - 'cause this is just plain bad.

It doesn't help that it's the start of June and not the 24th of December.

How the hell do they mispronounce Bulbasaur when they've said the name fine in over a hundred episodes? Jesus, what the hell's up with 4Kids and their inability to pronounce things right? First Raikou and now an ENGLISH name? o_O

Could just be the narrator being a complete non-pokemoner though.

Also, what's the deal with Meowth and Wobbuffet? Was something cut there? We end up just cutting to Meowth and Wobbuffet walking up random steps and talking about "That Skarmory" before said Skarmory appears and blasts them off.

It made zero sense. Something surely has been cut from that scene?

(Note, only seen Delibird ep ^^)

Can anyone send me these eps? I'm in [HASHTAG]#pocketmonsters[/HASHTAG] and have them queued, but I'm at the end of a long line.

I haven't seen the dub (I'm stuck with 56K and all), but I do have the Japanese version. And from what I can tell, nothing was cut--Nyasu's and Sonansu's first scene in the Japanese version is just as random as it is in the dub.

So anyway, I guess it's safe to assume that the two shorts were cropped to be in fullscreen?

Actually, they've kept the letterbox format... I dunno if it's been cropped though.

I've seen both episodes and have them taped.

I don't think anything was cut out, judging from the episode pics at Serebii anyway. Although there was some incident involving a bunch of Natu's running along a road which I didn't see, but that could have been an intermission scene between the two episodes.

Give 4kids credit here, based on recent performance this could have potentially been a disaster. I believe all names were pronounced correctly in both episodes, and it appears they kept all their original voices including some of the less common pokémon as well, such as Seal and Dewgong (Dewgong was pronounced "Dewgong-gong-gong!" in the same fashion as before). All apart from Snorlax who now does an extremely irritating snore effect (an actual snore effect you can do with you're nostrils) to pronouce the first half of it's name and then says -laaaaaxxxx! in much higher pitch voice afterwards.

The narrator was great for the first episode, and I didn't really think he did Bulbasaur all that differently than what it should be. His voice was somewhat deeper and spookier than either of the previous two, one you'd expect from a Christmas carol special or whatever. The second narrator for the "Snorlax Snowman" episode was the guy who we're now familiar with in the Hoenn region (i.e. the one who took over late season 6).

In all good episodes, the dub even decided to include vocal music for both episodes, mainly the second one, so it's fair to say they have put a bit of an effort in this time, but then again, how hard is it to dub a bunch of pokémon saying their names over and over again?

Oh BTW, there is actual talk about it on serebii, just that it's in the Pikachu short section rather than chronicles part. Explains why there's only 4 replies for one of them I guess lol.

I think the alternate pronunciation of Bulbasaur could have been due to a slight accent from the alternate narrator (was it Santa?) as well.

Historically, all of the Christmas shorts have been just-above-Peanuts quality and completely vapid, so this one is probably of the same calibre, right?

Yeah I guess :p

It was quite entertaining for some parts, with Tom and Jerry like humor, but in all there wasn't a true meaning to the shorts making both stories looking somewhat pointless it has to be said lmao. But still it's something different from the mainstream animé.

I believe that all the Pokemon shorts are supposed to be a take on classic American Cartoon style. Even so, the movie shorts are of superlative quality than these Christmas ones. I'm not sure I can pin down where they went wrong, but they just don't sit right at all.

I think I've found the never-before-seen footage on the DVD. And it is less than 10 seconds!

In the middle of both shorts, a pointless three-second jingle with a pointless logo comes on. The "Gotta Catch 'em All" logo also appears between each story.

And for some reason, the credits are over this picture:

Moved to the Anime Forum since it just aired in the US. Yeah, it's a bit late, but at least it's here for those of you dying to talk about this episode.

Umm... I missed the episode but I thought Legend of Thunder part 3 aired yesterday?

I saw the episodes when they first came out in the UK, but since that was a while back, I've partically forgotten what happened. No, I can't be bothered to try and remember either. ^_^
