In some ways, the buildup to Platinum has already begun. It was already a forgone conclusion there would be coordination between it and the dub release of Movie 11, but now with the title Giratina and the Sky Warrior all but confirmed so soon, and the more relevant fact that Shaymin has now been revealed subtly on an English website---the GTS site---is it not impossible to think we could actually see Platinum released in the first two weeks of Feburary 2009, followed by Sky Warrior at the end of the month and the giveaway of the Shaymin that activates the Glacidia Flower event at about that time?

I don't think so. Pokémovies always come out at midyear -May or June, so your point is nonsense. I'm not saying we won't get the game on February, just that the argument you used to back up your hypothesis is erroneous. Movie 10 is still fresh so I think we'll have to wait al teast until April to get movie 11.

On the game's release date, Nintendo annonuces their title releases with anticipation, so if Platinum is scheduled for February, it had been already announced, which has not happened. Maybe late March.

Anyways, I can't wait to put my hands on that game!!

The first release of Movie 10 was in late Feburary '08, I want to say the 26th or 27th. You can look it up on Bulbapedia if you don't believe it.

Wait, I heard the 11th movie doesn't get shown until the Summer of 09 worldwide.

Doesn't the 3rd game usually come out in the Spring?

Yellow - October 1, 1999.
Crystal - July 30, 2001
Emerald - May 1, 2005
Platinum - No idea.

Only real consistency is in Japan's releases... which, with the exception of Red and Green, are in the end of the year.

Dear sweet Jesus, I hope so. I reeeeeeally want Platinum.

I'd like to think so. If so, we should be hearing about it soon - hopefully by the end of the year.

Oh, yes, you're right! I get confused with the DVD release date. But still, it's to soon to announce a game less than 3 months before its release. that's not what Nintendo does. Anyway, thanks for the correction!

Considering that there are qualification tournaments for a Platinum World Championship in Japan, I do hope that they hurry a little more with the releases to make a championship finals event possible in August - assuming that the finals would take place at the same time as the TCG World Champinships final.
Because for that the game should be released in time in Australia and Europe as well so that qualifications could take place in those regions as well, which most likely requires the American version to launch in Spring. I assume Korea would be left out of the plans for a world championship because of the lack of Korean characters in the Japanese Platinum once again, even though it should be possible to release a Korean Platinum in time as well, considering that the Korean DP games were based on the Japanese versions and not the American one - although Ranger 2 would possibly have to be delayed and perhaps released after Platinum since Korea isn't getting PMD 2 until this December.

So yeah, I as well hope for an earlier release of the American version of Platinum.

Unless you have great nationalistic pride (that sort of thing has always eluded me) or personal plans to participate in the world tournament, I fail to see why you find that to be a relevant concern. Surely the ability to play the game for what it is actually worth (being eligible for an official tournament is merely an honor that has been stripped from Diamond and Pearl) comes first.

I see the fact that there are such qualification tournaments in Japan as a hint for earlier (earlier than DP, as both DP and Platinum were released in September in Japan) releases in America, Australia and Europe. That's about all.
Of course it would be also a nice thing to have the possibility to participate in such a tournament and I don't see anything bad about feeling like that.

I know it's a bit off topic but Korea didn't get first version of Ranger, so they probably won't get the sequel. However, they are getting MD2 in December which means that Nintendo Korea did not give up on Pokemon. So, there's a fair chance that Korea will get Platinum but it will be left out from championships because of the reason you stated - lack of compatibility between Korean and other language versions.

Anyway, I'm also hoping for quicker Platinum release in US because I want to play the game in English. I also hope that when Platinum gets released in English, Peter O. will wake up and rip every detail of the game.

I think that it might not take long at all. Since the majority of the English text could just be pulled from Diamond and Pearl's English translation. Then again, what do I know about translating! XD

Pardon a newbie who just recently bought Diamond, but are there any big changes in Platinum that I should be excited about or is it just a filler?

Major changes include:
  • GIRATINA is obtainable before the Elite Four
  • Both DIALGA and PALKIA are obtainable at Spear Pillar
  • New Sinnoh Dex (More Pokémon are available compared to Diamond and Pearl)
  • The return of the Battle Frontier from Pokémon Emerald
  • New style of clothes for the main characters
  • New forms (versions) of GIRATINA, SHAYMIN and ROTOM
  • The 3 Regi's are available IF you get a special "Movie 11" REGIGIGAS
There's probably more but those are the ones I could remember/are most note-worthy.

--Move tutors are back, too.
--Also, the Poketch has been redesigned so that you can scroll back and forth between the apps, instead of just hitting a button and having to go all the way through again if you miss one.
--Veilstone, Hearthome, and Pastoria gyms are now in a different order -- I think you can challenge Hearthome the first time you get to the city.
-- you know what? just look here
