It seems that in all my Generation 3 and 4 games (including console games), I've capitalized the first letter of my players' names, and the rest of the letters lowercased. I realized a long way into playing them that this format isn't correct, as the other trainers' names are capitalized in battle. This only applies to main-series games. In Ranger and Shadows of Almia, it seems the lowercase (with the first letter capitalized) is the correct format here. The problem is, in the main series games, I've progressed so far that I don't want to delete the games just to change the casing of the player's name. If someone could submit a list of the correct format to use in each game, that would be helpful. It's just that I'm really sad to delete my entire file, in the cases of Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, I've been working on for months. Also, in Diamond and Platinum, dates are very important to me, because I have for the date beginning Diamond as the date I bought it and it came out: April 22, 2007, and for Platinum the same: March 22, 2009. Also, deleting the file makes it so more than one ID for my games gets submitted to Nintendo's servers, and it's like I used Wi-Fi in more than one game, which I didn't. How should I handle this; delete the games just to have the right name, but no longer having the original dates and losing all my data including Pokémon downloads. and the Secret Key download, or keep them, thus making it so that I must have in every game that's compatible be in the same (incorrect) case?

Red&Blue&Yellow - Uppercase
Gold&Silver&Crystal - Uppercase
Ruby&Sapphire&Emerald - Uppercase
Diamond&Pearl&Platinum - Lowercase
PokemonMysteryDungeon(s) - Lowercase

Having said that, it really doesn't matter.
By default in D/P/PL, when registering your name it offers the uppercase keys first, like previous installations, but everyone in game (Dawn, Birch, Cyrus etc), all their names are lowercase.

Hmm, when videos are recorded on the Vs. Recorder in Platinum, the profile for the player is "(Player)'S Profile" with a capital S for ownership. That is why it led me to believe that 4th Generation games have all capital player names, and also, in battle, they are capitalized. It's strange though, that outside of battle, when speaking to NPC's, their names are lowercased, with the exception of the first letter.

Hahah that really bothers me! I always spell my name with an Uppercase-then-lowercase format, but name my Pokémon all uppercase. I think it's terribly inconsistent of the game designers to alternate between the two for names, but hey, whatcha gonna do. :)

I've always wondered why they prefer having every name completely capitalized, it has never made any sense however you look at it. I was happy they at least changed the people's names to normal style (although I didn't notice this the first time when I played Diamond and still ended up using the capitalized letter's for me and my rival's names). I hope they'll change the Pokémon names to this format in the future games. Does it actually matter to anyone wether you've caught a STARLY or a Starly?
