It's not $599. It's the same price as the 3ds, but with modern graphics.

PlayStation Vita: It's Official, and Here's The Price

This January, show debuted its new gaming handheld in Tokyo. The portable's codename was introduced as NGP, or "Next Generation Portable".

Today, at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles, Sony revealed the handheld's final name, PS Vita. The portable has dual touch pads, dual cameras, and an OLED screen.

"Vita means life," said Sony Computer Entertainment Kazuo Hirai, adding that the Vita will "blur the lines" between entertainment and real life, allowing you to connect and interact like never before.

Vita, pronounced "VEE-ta", will have Wi-fi and 3G/Wi-fi models. Sony is partnering with AT&T as the exclusive mobile carrier for the United States—an announcement that drew groans from the audience at E3.

......Anyways, on topic, looks interesting. With a $250 price for just Wi-Fi, there's definitely gonna be some big competition with the 3DS.

I doubt that it will sell big unless Sony can prove it has reasonable security.

Meh, portable systems will be absorbed by phones after this generation regardless of whatever else happens.

$249 will give Nintendo a run for its money. I predict a price drop when Nintendo does its press conference. Also, I have a feeling that the PSV is actually selling at a loss.

Sony has sold products for a loss in the past, same with MS, only to profit off software sales and future hardware cost cutting.

There is an old proverb: "Let the games decide." We had this same battle with the original DS and PSP. This is going give me a headache for years.

THat's so unfortunate because I don't want to have to pay for a phone plan every month :/

ALso this can have dual touch pads, why can Nintendo not manage dual touch screen?

Because the 3d technology prevented dual touch screens. But that's no excuse for a multitouch on the front bottom screen.

The reason for AT&T is because they had to pick a single carrier, at least to start with, probably as part of negotiations since they aren't a cellphone company and therefore don't automatically have relationships and past history with all of the different carriers. It's the same reason iPhone started out with only AT&T.

ATT is also bigger, and uses GSM, while Sprint and Verizion are CDMA. T-Mobile is smaller.

Precisely. They could only pick one, so they went with the provider that could get the most access. For instance, I have an AT&T contract, so when my self-imposed obligation of two years with it is over, yeah, I'll probably get a PSV. Other people with older AT&T phones or no such obligations will probably do so much sooner. It's pretty much the best thing they could possibly do.
