First of all, don't ask about the title. I don't really have any expearince at nameing fake diseases. x_x

The thing is, I think I focus on shipping too much. Whenever I watch Pokémon or read the manga, I am always on the lookout for shipping hints. Whenever I go on this website, the first forum I check is this one, Shipper's Paradise. I think about shipping too much. I'm not sure how all this came to be. I want to enjoy Pokémon the way it is meant to be enjoyed and only notice shipping hints when a valid one actually shows up, instead of eagerly waiting for them. I want to focus on other Pokémon things/fandoms instead of constantly thinking about shippings. I don't want to totally forget about shippings, but I just wan to stop being such a Pokémon Shipping Otaku. Can someone PLEASE help me?! Anyone else who has this problem can come here, too!

P.S. Don't get me wrong! Shipping is not my faveourite thing and It's not always on my mind.

IMO there's no harm in obsessing about shipping so long as you don't turn into a fantard or become convinced that your highly implausible OTP is going to happen in the show. Maybe rather than try to talk yourself out of liking something that you clearly do like, you could try joining fandoms which are more romance-oriented in the first place? I hate to suggest it, but there's always... Twilight (*performs rite for the expulsion of evil spirits*)... or The O.C., ignoring the fact that it's been cancelled for a few years now. Or Pushing Daisies, which has just been cancelled, but the gods of good taste will bless you for watching something so superior. Or there's things like Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls, etc. - even Ugly Betty would probably suffice.

No, you are beyond help.
You don't have to be so mean! D: I exaggerated a little bit, anyway.

Thank you. But I think I'm gonna stick with Pokémon and other anime for a long time.

Awww... I'm sorry. I was just being sarcastic, really. I don't actually think you're 'beyond help'. Anyway, what Jo-Jo said, it's fine to like your shippings as long as you don't become a militant-type shipper .

While we're on the topic of shipping-related diseases, is there a way to cure shipping-phobia? The root cause is shipping not being just lighthearted fun like I thought it was and seeming more like a "holy war" between different factions. I attempted to find solace in crack shippings, but the lack of support hurts the attempt.

Watch about fifty bazillion different animes, that way you don't overly focus on shipping one too much, and instead you watch all those other shows in the time in which you'd normally be stalking through page 180 of some Pokeshipping vs. Palletshipping vs. Comashipping vs etc, and if that isn't enough, play an MMO or something.

The internet has enough for you to do so that there's no way to be bored even if you don't really get outside much or anything.

Or just go outside more, or something.

Or just play the pokemon games more and focus on EV levels and powerlevelan' and all that fun stuff that isn't really fun but pays off.

I used to be kinda like you, but now I'm not really like that anymore.

Just stay out of those wars then. They're pretty easy to stay out of, I've found.

But then I like "conflicting ships" myself (a weird frame with Command, Air, and Exec, with Diamond in the past...Gio gets around), so maybe I don't see it as much of a problem.

I would suggest going for different anime instead. If you're a fan of romance and comedy, then Lovely Complex would be great. Whetehr it's the manga or anime, you'll be sure to love the characters right away. There's friendship, fun, and it's pretty realistic in terms of how romance can be compared to a lot of anime I've seen.

If you're more of a dramatic kind of person who also likes romance, then Romeo X Juliet would be a good one. The characters have twists unlike the play which makes it an interesting anime to go for. There's a lot of shippings in there you might like. :D I recommend this one if you're into great meaning and symbolism, too.

But if you're really liking the Pokemon fandom, then let your mind go crazy with fanfiction, anime music videos, and fanart. Most of the popular pairings have tons of fansites with amazing art. Go visit the shipping threads you like or other forums where you'll find them, too. Many threads provide links to the artist's site where you can oogle at the love. :D

Good luck! =)

Maybe you should go and watch a new anime. i use to suffer a case of this shippingitas but with the help of my other anime i like im okay.

There's nothing wrong with being obsessed with a shipping, so long as it doesn't get too crazy, like witht the rabid Twilight fangirls and the millitant Harry/Hermionie shippers in the other fandoms.

You have to remember why you got into the pairing in the first place - because you love it! You also have to remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

But a good way to stop focusing on one ship is to go out and find more! Not just in Pokemon, but in other fandoms as well; anime and video game fandoms could be your best bet. That way, your love is spread out among ships, and not totally concentrated in one particular area. You can still look for shipping hints and enjoy the media. ^^

I...hope that helps. ^^; I'm obsessed, and I refuse to seek help for the sake of my sanity.

I've been on the shipping boat for a bit.

One way to get your mind off of it is to go out more, or make your own real life ship. As in, ask that cute guy you've always liked out on a date. See what he says. Ya never know. There was this cutie in my biology class who I thought was out of my league, until I asked him a question. We ended up talking and I found out we had much more in common than I thought! This happened at the crux of my multishipping phase and it certainly took my mind off pokemon. XD

Oh God, please don't remind me. THAT was a nerve-wracking experience.

I just go with canon. Only if I feel like I wanna fool around do I like nonsensical pairings.

Best thing I can say is keep yourself occupied with other things that totally aren't related to what you're doing.

Exactly; it's good to stick with canon in some places, or at least not turn rabid over it.

Thanks, everyone. :)

Like I said earlier, I exaggerated quite a bit in that first post. My shipping obsession only exhists when I'm having one of those lazy days and when I'm bored at school and have nothing else to think about. I still like shippings at other times, but I'm just not so crazy about them.

Actually, I do watch a lot of different anime. A lot. The reason I tend to focus on pokémon shippings so much is hard to explain, but I think I know how to control it now.
