This is NOT a thread for famous plot twists like "Aeris dies" or "Shiek is the princess" just plot twists that lost all meaning to YOU personally
don't forget to spoiler tag in case someone hasn't played
for me I'd go
Your "Best Friend" Eric Sparrow being a complete jerk by sabotaging your career, mainly because the following game and proving ground made him kind of a butt monkey and comic relief compared to the climax of underground 1.

I can't think of many for me. I had already known about Aeris's death beforehand so it didn't "lose" any meaning to me, it just ... never had any to begin with?

Spoilers for an RTS game I really like, called Impossible Creatures
The protagonist, Rex Chance, was actually the first product of the game's Sigma Technology (much like the combined creatures you can create). Sigma creatures have no pupils in their eyes, and Rex is shown without them at the end of the game.

Bravely Default...
I don't like Bravely Default for a number of reasons. Without delving too deep into why, I was pretty much done with the game by the time I restored the second crystal and was forcing myself to press on. While complaining about the game, someone told me that Airy the fairy is a lying mastermind who is manipulating the party. That and, after a certain point, I would be forced to re-awaken all the crystals a second time again, which was my biggest beef with the game.

And that was my final straw with the game. I stopped playing it there and eventually sold it.

One is in Sonic Generations.
Eggman, or rather the Eggmen, controlling the Time Eater is so boring and unoriginal... I'm real tired of Eggman being behind E V E R Y T H I N G. Sonic Forces isn't helping that, not one bit.

Speaking of...
Ganon. That is all.

Oh, and it's debatable that SM's one is even a plot twist it was so obvious.

Well, it is Nintendo, after all...

On which note:
That "plot twist" should've been seen coming a mile away. There's no way that the combination of that small of a chapter count and fighting Medusa that quickly could possibly be the whole game.

I think it's more that the fact it was eggman was the point as more often than not in the newer games he gets usurped as big bad (both adventures, heroes, shadow, battle, 06, lost world, unleashed, mania, and I think advance 3 and colors but not certain on those two all had him take backseat to the real main villain)
Ahem...

The “Twist” of SM thats revealed as you start the game that everyone was expecting.

And as for SuMo, while there's no denying the plot twist was coming from a mile away but rather it's about the WEIGHT of the twist, as that was what NO ONE saw coming.

This one is more a running gag to the point it's a trope litterally called hijacked by ganon on tvtropes.

Any time Eggman controls/is betrayed by the final boss. I mean, it's just happened so damn often that there's no weight to it anymore.
A few specific games I'll point out for one reason or another:
This one is good since it's actually pretty unexpected. The fact that Eggman had nothing to do with it at all beyond creating the entity was a good move. Metal Sonic is pretty out of the blue, but still something you can guess if you catch the hints in places like Egg Hawk, Hang Castle, and Egg Emperor.
Another time where Eggman really had nothing to do with the main plot of the game. He was just there to play a villain for Sonic's story and drop a couple hints to Mephiles/Solaris. Proof that Eggman doesn't need to be directly tied to the final boss to have weight.
Oh my god! Eggmen are controlling the Time Eater!? Who could have seen that coming!? Oh, right, everyone.
This one was good since it was practically a direct inversion of what we were all used to. It looked to be running pretty standard, The Deadly 6 betrayed Eggman, Sonic has to clean up Eggman's mess, happy ending. The moment when Eggman himself pulled a Chaos and took over from the 6 as the final boss was actually a wonderful breath of fresh air.
...Oh my god... I'm praising Lost World's story... What have I become!?
FUCKING FORCES! It looked like we were getting Eggman's world domination, plus Infinite doing his own thing. But no, Infinite is just another guy that Eggman made/controlled to do his bidding and is going to betray him at the end of the game. I just hope the rest of it is good enough to excuse this not a twist.

The problem with every game in a series with in-depth stories having to have the same villain is that it limits what can be done with the story. I've heard that Star Fox has this problem, too. I also take issue with Sonic trying to be realistic in complete earnest, instead of having its "own universe".

Anyway, the ending of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile made me cry the first time, but I soon realised that the plot twist comes completely out of nowhere, just for the sake of having a sad ending.

The ending of Metroid: Samus Returns.
You have been warned.
After defeating the Metroid Queen and escaping with the lone Metroid baby, Ridley shows up and attempts to steal it, leading to a long boss battle against him. By now, he's had a boss battle in most of the Metroid games. An interesting sidenote is that according to his appearances in the Metroid timeline (starting with Meta Ridley from Metroid Prime 1) his design has progressively fewer cyborg components in each subsequent appearance.
I have the Internet at large to thank for the mere implication this would happen, comparing/contrasting it to the original game, plus a few Miiverse posts that the users forgot to spoiler tag.

Was Bardock being the Masked Saiyan ever supposed to be an actual plot twist? It was incredibly obvious from the start the moment you saw him, especially considering that the game starts with Bardock's last stand against Frieza before transitioning to the game's main villains causing havoc with time. If maybe they changed his appearance some, like changing the armor and removing the bandanna, it would be a little more discreet though the hair would still give it away.

"I know that face. It's Bardock!" Oh whoop, so did the rest of us.

A lot of you are referring to twists that you didn't like to begin with. The title is "plot twists that lost their meaning to you."

It was foreshadowed by the
dream Ghadius spoke of and Huepow's speech in the Moon Kingdom. He told Klonoa that he'd gone into the outside world for a reason, which he promised to explain eventually. That reason is that he needed to shape Klonoa, a dreamer he'd summoned, into a hero.
I still consider this to be one of the most effective and meaningful twist in the history of gaming.

I don't see much of a difference. Not liking a plot twist kind of makes it difficult to evaluate whether it was meaningful or not.

The difference is how passage of time can change an opinion. Simply not liking something isn't exactly rare, and it's easy to criticize the plot in most video games.

But hey, I didn't create the thread.
