In a thread to attempt to chronicle the various screw-ups of the anime, what are some plotlines the writers built up at one point but went absolutely nowhere? Keep in mind some stuff some stuff could still be resolved in the future, which is why Ho-oh's connection to Ash won't be listed here since the writers are still clearly interested in the storyline.

Some stuff off the top of my head, let's get the obvious ones out of the way first:

1) GS ball. Yeah, the storyline started in Orange that was completely abandoned during Johto. Thanks a lot, Johto writers.

2) Casey as a secondary rival. She was built up as a second rival in Johto but then fizzled out toward the end of the saga and faded into obscurity. Looking back now, what the heck was the point of Casey in the first place?

3) Brock's Heavy Ball. Brock got a Heavy Ball from Kurt that was never used.

4) Drew and Robert's rivalry. Apparently, Drew got beaten twice by Robert in the first Contest and Hoenn GF, and he held a grudge against him. This was never resolved.

5) Misty's dream of being a Water Pokemon Master. You could arguably say that being a Water Gym leader brings her closer to her goal, but at the same time, it really didn't seem like what the character wanted to accomplish at the beginning.

6) Jessie's feelings about Hoenn when she first arrived. If you recall, during AG1 Jessie made comments about Hoenn, followed by James asking, "Have you been here before?" Since then, Jessie's history with the Hoenn region was never delved into.

7) Grace. After May beat her, the character apparently fell into a hole and died and was never head of again. She didn't get a montage during the Hoenn GF while all the other past coordinators that May faced did.

8) Ash promising Pidgeot he would see him again when he returned to Kanto after Orange. He came back to Kanto three times after and still never bothered to check on him.

9) Max and Ralts. Max promised Ralts he would come back for it when he became a trainer, will this ever happen?

10) Steven, the Champion of the Hoenn Elite 4 was shown in 1 measly episode during Dewford Island and never heard from again. The group never found out that he was the champion of the Elite 4 either.

11) Team Magma/Aqua never revealed where they got the Blue and Red orbs from. This is because Mt. Pyre was oddly skipped in the anime.

12) Bayleef's crush on Ash has mostly faded since the end of Johto, although at the same time you wonder why the writers abandoned the concept for Aipom.

13) Ash never got a rematch with Richie so he could kick his ass and prove how much better he was than him.

14) Jigglypuff mysteriously disappeared and was never heard from again after appearing in the Trick House episode during Hoenn. Where did Jiggly go since then?

15) Silver, an older man with gray hair appearing in a Hoso with Richie acted "shocked" when the name "Ash" was mentioned to him. Who is this Silver character and why didn't he ever appear again?

16) Hun and Attila (haha, aside from the sex change thanks to 4kids) captured a Rayquaza in the beginning of the Movie 9 montage. What became of this storyline?

17) Marina, apparently a character who wanted to be an Idol trainer, was retconned and turned into another girly coordinator, something the character never was.

18) Despite Mewtwo erasing Giovanni and TR's memories, the organization should still have files on Mewtwo back in their labs. Why didn't TR ever attempt to go after Mewtwo again?

19) Giovanni lost control of the Viridian Gym and Agatha of the Elite 4 took it over. She said she was only there temporarily until a new Gym leader was appointed. Who is the new leader of the Viridian Gym?

20) A certain main character was given an Eevee randomly in the middle of a saga, only for that Eevee to barely get any screentime during its run. What was the point of this Pokemon?

---

That's all for now, since I've given 20 of them. Is there anything I missed? Or is there anything here that you think will still be resolved?

Wait, really? Then...why feature a Johto item in the middle of Hoenn? O_O

What happened to the Fast Balls? I know Brock used his, but what about Ash's and Misty's?

Gasp! Another plothole!

Primeape's another plothole. It left for "special training" and Ash said that it would be back for it, but of course, besides Spurt, it is never heard from again. How long does it take to become P-1 Champ?

Pokemon has many plotholes you'd think it was a Michigan road. Oh wait...those are potholes.

I am bumbed that some interest plotlines met with dead ends. Grace is the biggest one. She was a fucking riot. It'd be a laugh to see her and Nando meet. As odd as it is, I see them as a couple.

I wanna see Ritchie and Casey again. Although I wanna see Casey even more, that girl was awesome, for srs.

and they might resolve a small amount of this, but I have a feeling it'll just all be regarded as utter plothole material, for the most part.

To evolve into Leafeon or Glaceon before they decided to swap her out with Dawn, I'd wager.

They had to have been planning to bring Dawn in at least 8 months to a year before AG even ended. By the time May got Eevee, Battle Frontier was already half-way over. The timeframe doesn't work considering there's no way the decision to bring Dawn in was decided that late.

Maybe they wanted to evolve it into Glaceon or Leafeon, but weren't told how, or were, and realized they couldn't evolve it yet. Since we're out of Eterna Forest, I suspect May will be back sometime around Snowpoint. =P

19) Giovanni lost control of the Viridian Gym and Agatha of the Elite 4 took it over. She said she was only there temporarily until a new Gym leader was appointed. Who is the new leader of the Viridian Gym?

The games provide with this answer. Gary at some point in time will take the Viridian Gym, but for now, he is researching in Sinnoh under Prof. Rowan. Is there a new gym leader there now? We may never know.

Yeah, they were probably evolving it into Leafeon or Glaceon before May left, but then realized they couldn't evolve it because they chouldn't get May to Eternia or Snowpoint.

Plot holes in Pokemon? Perish the thought! And how could you forget Brock's quest to become a master breeder? There has been little to no breeding on the show besides egg hatching, and Brock has played very little part in it so far, except for Happini. It seems that the only thing they keep him around for these days is the voice of reason and for the Brock gets shot down by hot girl running gag.

Well regardless, Eevee was still an abandoned plotline, poor pacing, or both. I don't see the writers going through the extra effort to wrap it up at Snowpoint, that's too far from now (at the rate D/P is going, we won't get there for another 2 years!), so I expect the Eeveelutions to either be debuted with filler characters or maybe with Dawn, if they intend to do it correctly there.

I like to think Giovanni took it at some point, sold it, and that's how he afforded his posh new HQ.

Ash has a very long line of "rivals" he will never meet again. Maybe they've all formed some sort of club.

5) Misty's dream of being a Water Pokemon Master. You could arguably say that being a Water Gym leader brings her closer to her goal, but at the same time, it really didn't seem like what the character wanted to accomplish at the beginning.
No one has become a Master (or Breeder). While Misty seems to have accepted that life just didn't have it in the cards for her, Ash & Brock stubbornly act like they're still on some childish quest for a fortune that will never come, while at least Misty can pay her bills now.

6) Jessie's feelings about Hoenn when she first arrived. If you recall, during AG1 Jessie made comments about Hoenn, followed by James asking, "Have you been here before?" Since then, Jessie's history with the Hoenn region was never delved into.
I agree. If we can see one of James' many extra homes throughout the known universe, why can't we understand Jesse better? Perhaps the reason she didn't want to discuss it further was that perhaps she lived there when she got word her mother went missing?

8) Ash promising Pidgeot he would see him again when he returned to Kanto after Orange. He came back to Kanto three times after and still never bothered to check on him.
Plenty of Ash's pokemon are dead from holding their breath waiting for him to come back.

I understand there are new generations of bad guys ... but until the TR saga is effectively resolved (either they take over the world or they are routed from it), I'm irritated that nothing ever seems to move forward for this team.

18) Despite Mewtwo erasing Giovanni and TR's memories, the organization should still have files on Mewtwo back in their labs. Why didn't TR ever attempt to go after Mewtwo again?
I can't figure this out either ... because I assumed that someone as smart as Giovanni woulda kept back-up copies of his projects. Also, even though his memory was wiped ... it wasn't 100% effective -- he mentions feeling as though he was "utterly defeated". Perhaps that's why TR captured Raquayza? Maybe Gio is biding his time this time around so he can have something a bit more effective than some droids to capture his most prized accomplishment. All we've seen of TR (besides J&J) is Gio's HQ -- maybe he's piling up all his resources, waiting for the right moment. It's also possible that Mewtwo has been to the new HQ to get rid of the evidence (my very weak reason for Gio not remembering J&J).

Mine:

Not just Primeape, but how long does Charizard need to stay in that valley? I mean, come ON, he's battled super-pokemon, like Pikachu he should be nearly invincible by now.

I don't know whether or not this is a plothole or just a criticism: Ash's insanely slow learning curve. He's had great battling epiphanies ... why he can't remember those strategies the next episode astounds me.

What DID happen between Brock and Poison .... er ... Prof Ivy?
