Yesterday I was remembering those news from way back then:

Tokyo Anime Center's Kubo Offers Proposal on Fansubs (Updated) - News - Anime News Network

And with Crunchyroll kicking and stuff, it got me thinking.

In my ideal world anyone could use those official anime/movie selection services to have the option to watch most or all in dual-audio (or more depending where you're from) - like japanese with subs or english (with or without subs).

Crunchyroll is legal. And it allows people who prefer to watch in japanese to do so with official subtitles. No fansubbing or anything.

Personally I would be more than glad to pay monthly to have access to undubbed Pokemon if it really was avaible in the exact same format it was exhibitted in Japan. Even more so with clean conscience I'm not doing anything illegal.
But the dub and edited songs, lines, etc, really don't do it for me. It's just my opinion but still...

What's the chance of Pocket Monsters being added to the list? It is only a matter of demand (which i'm guessing it doesn't has much) or is it just a matter of TPCI not wanting to let any legal mean to not watch the dubbed/edited version?
It wouldn't necessarily have to be on CR, but a similar service I guess.

I think the idea behind Crunchyroll is bringing us unlicensed animes, isn't it? Don't know, 'cause I don't use Crunchyroll.

I wish there was some way to see the original anime, but I think no company will pay for a series which is already licensed here. Besides that, I think Funimation has all the rights to work with the series in America, so it makes the job harder.

TPCI wants you to think of their version as the only version of the show that exists. I doubt they'd hand the Japanese version of the show over to Crunchy Roll in the first place.

Also, fan demand for this is, unfortunately, practically non-existent.

No, Crunchyroll shows lots of series licensed by other North American companies. Most of their revenue comes through the Viz-licensed Naruto and Bleach TV series.

The stream license deals are arranged through the North American licensor, of course. And of course they'd do that. Hulu and Netflix' entire business model is built around this.

...what?

(but yeah, no, it's no coming. As Dogasu says, there's neither any demand for it nor any interest from TPCI's side to have people watch anything but the dub)

I've only been able to find around 20 episodes of the original series online and unfortunately they probably weren't uploaded legally. People just don't want to watch the original Japanese or older episodes. If there isn't a demand for it they'll never release or stream those series.

Thank you for the elucidation. :)
