Pokémon Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Exclusive One-Hour Program
NEW YORK (April 20, 2006) – Pokémon proudly announces the premiere of “The Mastermind
of Mirage Pokémon” on Saturday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. on Kids’ WB! The one-hour special
features the never-before-seen Mirage Pokémon, includes faces old and new, and is a special
10th anniversary gift from Pokémon to its fans.
“We are extremely excited to debut this special TV program to our fans as the unusual mystery
of the Mirage Pokémon is revealed,” said Akira Chiba, president, Pokémon USA, Inc. “This
year continues to be one of the most exciting ever for the Pokémon brand as we celebrate our
10th anniversary worldwide with unique activities, special events, a TV special, and more, all
designed for our loyal fans around the globe.”
The story of “The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon” centers on a Pokémon scientist who has
developed a new Mirage System to resurrect extinct Pokémon. Ash, May, Max, and Brock
show up at the Mirage Mansion for a demonstration of this new machine only to witness the
kidnapping of the scientist. Then a mysterious stranger appears and claims that the machine
can actually create Pokémon without weaknesses. It’s up to Ash and company to preserve the
natural balance of the Pokémon world. Catch Misty, Professor Oak, Mew and all the favorite
Pokémon friends during this action-packed special.
“Year-after-year, Pokémon continues to delight viewers with entertaining storylines,” said Betsy
McGowen, senior vice president and general manager, Kids’ WB! “We are thrilled to offer loyal
fans this one-hour special that brings together everyone’s favorite Pokémon characters to solve
this unusual mystery.”
Pokémon consistently ranks in the top two broadcast programs for Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11, Boys
2-11, Boys 6-11, Tweens 9-14 and Male Tweens 9-14.
Year-Long 10th Anniversary Celebration Continues
Throughout 2006, Pokémon is providing its fans with a variety of Pokémon initiatives ranging
from new ways of interacting with favorite characters to exciting new animation specials to
challenging new video games. Recently debuted at Toy Fair, Pokémon Mobile offers the first
ever official Pokémon cell phone content, including wallpapers, ring tones, and short videos. On
the video game front, Pokémon Trozei, a puzzle game for the Nintendo DS®, launched in March
and other Pokémon video games will be released throughout the year.
The Pokémon Journey Across America tour, which kicked off February 25 and travels to top
markets across the country through July 22, is allowing thousands of fans to compete for a
chance to qualify for the Pokémon Video Game National Championships. Winners will be flown
to New York City in August to compete for the championship title which will include an
anniversary bash open to the public.
Later in the year, the eighth Pokémon movie, "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew" is set for
release on DVD and will feature never-before-seen Pokémon and the legend of the Aura
Guardian.
