Well, I figured that since I'm not getting much work done on my fan-fic, I should just try writing in little pieces. Poetry, when writing, comes especially easy to me because I can just let all my emotions flow out onto the paper and not really have to care about much. I'm not sure how often I'll update this thread, but I have two small ones to kick it off with.

Snow

Floating around the world on a cloud
It must be nice: the view up there
What does it look like?
Why do you not tell me?
Come down and let me know
I have been waiting all year
So please, come down now
I cannot wait to see you again
Your cold air
Your icy breath
The way you dress the trees
It is all so beautiful
So come down now, why do you not?
I want to play again soon
I want to go outside
Where the air is cold
And the sun is hot
My breath is frozen
But where my heart is not
Oh, come and play with me
I am waiting here all alone
Oh come and play with me
Before I get too old

Air

Such an independent thing you are
Free as you can be
I need you
But you do not need me
So why do you always stay?
Our relationship is mute
But you are all around me
But I cannot see you
Why could that be?
Is it magic?
Is it my eyes?
Why are you hidden?
Don’t be shy
Let me see you
Let me touch you
Let me taste you
Let me smell you
Let me hear you
I only can on certain days
Why are you hiding from me
I want to know you better
Come out, reveal yourself
I haven’t got all day
You may have many lives
But soon enough,
I'll be gray

Really love both poems. The personification of snow and air were done beautifully.

I'm not usually one for poems as I'm not really an expert on them. And yet I do have to say that this poems definetily interested me, the prose is pretty good and I just like the way they flow together and kind of grab you while also showing emotion and meaning. I for one preferred Air because it points out something I myself have thought at times during my life.

Made me smile when I read this. :') Thanks for the kind words!!

I'm glad it piqued your interest! Truthfully, I can only write thoughtful poetry when I'm swelled up with a particular emotion, and they usually come out as elements for some reason. .-. Glad you liked it though!!
Came up with the idea yesterday, and polished it off today. Although truthfully, I don't like editing too much because it replaces raw emotion with artificial, but I still like it. Hopefully you'll enjoy it.

Fire

A commandment of heat,
An oath of passion
Your flame burns with great vision,
But you fail to see it, do you not?
Oh how arrogant you are
You think you know it all
But indeed you know so little
With the smallest breath you can be knocked down
Truly, quite a pity
If only you thought of others
You might be doing fine
Stop, look up and think
What do you really want?
Wealth?
Fame?
Love?
Can you truly not see it?
You are no better than I thought
Happiness
Happiness is what you want
No
Happiness is what you need
So go get it, why don’t you?
What is holding you back?
Are you scared of the wind?
Or is it the fear of a last breath?
Your arrogance has gotten you nowhere
Such is your egotistical ways
But simply put, you are no greater than a gnat
Yes, a gnat, dare I say
A small creature indeed
Maybe if you saw a different way
You could be at ease
But it is too late now
You are too stubborn
It could never work out
So go, be gone
Get away from here
Before I put you out myself

Wrote it a week ago in school, decided to polish it off this afternoon. Should have another one posted tonight.

Sand

Before I say anything,
Let me begin with sorry
I have stepped all over
Your soft, warm face
I regret it all
Even though I am much too late,
You have had a lot going on
Too much indeed
I should have been there
I should have helped you
I should have taken it all back
Because whenever you were not looking
I spat in your face
You were always there
Beneath my feet
Giving me support
Your warm touch
Your softness
You lent me support
But all I gave you was hate
I crashed down on you much too often
I was ignorant
A fool
But it is too late
I know you will not recover
I have dampened you too much
Damped you with hatred
Soiled your warmth
So I will leave
Leave you be
Just remember
I am sorry

From all the poems posted here, Fire is my favorite.
You could even write it in a paragraph form, like prose. That's how I see it; less like a poem, and more like written word.

Yeah, aha. They're not really poems, more like jumbles of metaphors and emotion. Glad you enjoy them though!
Well this one kind of just came to me, and it's certainly a lot different then the other four. Don't even think it's fair to call this one a poem, but nonetheless, here you go.

Shadows

Look at you,
Look how hopeless you are
Stop hiding
Stop moping
You will never get anywhere that way
Step out into the light
Taste what it is like to live

But I cannot
I am stuck here
Stuck in the dark by delusion
I could not get out even if I wanted

Then stop the delusion
Stop the insanity

You do not get it
I am delusion
I am insanity
I am crazy
I am hopeless
I am weak
I am scared
I am stuck in the darkness of life
The dark side of purity
I lurk where the light never shines
I live where Evil plays
And I cannot move
I cannot do anything
I am motionless in a constantly moving world
Do you know how painful that is?
Painful for me?
But no one ever sees me
They never see me fail
They never hear my pleas
It is a cruel life indeed
But it is my life
So I will continue living in it
Even if it means living in the dark

OMG, I love your poetry! I wish this sort of thing was done more on here. Beautifully written especially shadows!

Really like Fire! Your poetry has way more flow and just sounds... nice and poetic than I could ever hope to write.

Thanks so much for the appreciation, guys! Really makes my day seeing your replies!

This one drifts away from the elemental theme I had going, but oh well. Just when I thought I was having a bit of a block too. I really like this one, hope you do too.

End

The end is a place you meet
At, well, the end
Filled with mystery
Filled with lust
Filled with something non can touch
A place so far away
So far away indeed
A place so far away
Far away in need
In need of new
In need of fun
The end is a place for everyone
Yet at the end there is just one
Meeting until your life is done
Gone from this place
And into the shadows
Up and away to a happy ever after
But is it really happy?
Is it really grand?
Is the end a place where none get mad?
Or is it not a place where we live hand in hand?
For if there is more beyond the end,
What lies beyond the next bend?
And then what is next?
Next after our first end?
First out of ten?
First out of five?
No one knows
Until their goodbye

It seems I'm on a bit-of-a roll this week. I'm starting to run out of fonts. .-.

Rocks

Throw them in my face
Throw them in my hands
I will send them back
But keep two hand-in-hand
For when you are hurting me
You are only hurting yourself
The pain you cause me
Is no pain at all
I take it with my shield
And still stand tall
And prepare myself with everything I've got
Because I know this will take a lot
To feel no pain
Is to have no gain,
No gain of greater strength
But in order to get this greater gain
You must prepare yourself
You must stand tall and take it all
To receive your new-found treasure
But it is as they say
To receive some pain
Is to receive a greater gain
Which is to receive the greatest gain of all:
Pain

Again

Go back to the beginning
Go back to the past
Play it again
Like our favorite track
Go back to the schoolyard
Where we first met
Go back to the classroom
Where we laughed and failed our tests
Fly back to the past
Fly back to our oasis
Fly back to the place
Where we fled to our safe haven

Fled away to the fun
Fled away to a place
Where we could see the sun
Fly back to the past
Where we first met

Play it again
Like that baseball recap
Run away to the future
And run away from the ones
Who said we would not last
Run away from the ones
Who only laughed
Instead come forward
Come forward and face
Face the place
Where we called each other mates

Absolutely love the beauty you portray in these poems. There's a real gentleness about them, even involving the ones that evoke such a saddening emotion :)

It seems I've forgotten about this one... Anyways, I should have another one posted soon; I'm working on poems like a madman today.

Ghosts

Laughter from the Dark
Joy from the Pain
Delight and Mischief
Are in their name

Boiling up
Trembling down
They approach with grace
Hear no sound

The Night’s owl
Watching from its perch
The Day’s ant
Hiding in its hole

Arrives when the east is dark
Leaves when thought is gone
Leaves by Ice and Wind
Arrives by Demon’s heart

Away it goes
Off into the night
Off from the night
It comes

From behind
From above
From the Moon
My eyes are dust

Floating away
Memories are gone
Floating towards
Nightmares begun

Off in the distant
Red eyes nudge
Nudge at the way
I live in the Sun

I do not like poetry usually but you are very good at it and your is fun to read and make me think. Beautiful.

I apologize for the dark themes in the last two poem, but I hope you enjoyed them anyways. Also, if you didn't know, this collection of poems has been nominated for the Summer Awards, and I just want to give a big thanks to whoever nominated it. I actually didn't even think to do it, but I'm glad someone did. It's a big honor to have something nominated, so again, a big thanks to whoever nominated and will vote, and good luck to my fellow authors who have also been nominated.

With that out of the way, please enjoy this new poem that may or may not be on the line of correct usage of words:

Fall

When something falls,
It, well, falls
But does it fall hard or soft?
Does it fall below or loft?

When something falls,
It, well, breaks
But does it break jagged or smooth?
Does it break falsehood or soothe?

When something falls,
It, well, diminishes
But does it diminish fast or slow?
Does it diminish high or low?

When something falls,
It, well, parts
But does it part now or then?
Does it part or come back again?

When something falls,
It well, finds
But does it find hate or love?
Does it find raven or dove?

When something falls,
It, well, continues
But does it continue east or west?
Does it continue cursed or blessed?

When something falls,
It, well, buds
But does it bud into a flower or tree?
Do-

But, but, but,
You will have to wait and see.

I am loving this last poem! It may feel a little repetetive, but it's nice nonetheless. I like how literal it is. After all, literality is functionality!

Post Awards feedback: Plot: N/A
Setting: N/A
Characters: N/A
Style: 8/10
Technical: 9/10

Overall: 88/100

The poetry here is wonderful, with each one being themed around an elemental. That said, there are still lines that sound awkward and forced, but with some tweaking this could go in an anthology.

Seems fitting enough for my 1,000th post.

Life

I have much to say, despite no lips
And I have much to hear, despite no ears

I have much to think, despite no brain
And I have much to do, despite no will

There is much to do, too much to get done
There is much to do, too much to have fun

I have much to move, despite these shackles
And I have much to see, despite no eyes

I have much to run, despite no legs
And I have much to want, despite no need

There is much to do, too much to get done
There is much to do, too much to finish young

I have much to lose, despite no status
And I have much to finish, despite no start

I have much to leave, despite no gifts
And I have much to write, despite no words

There is much to do, too much to get done
There is much to do, too much to stop when the going gets tough
