I'm certain you all have seen this on Pokebeach before. What are your thoughts of this change in type representation for the poisonous Pokemon in the TGC?

Quite personally, I found it shocking at first, but now I'm starting to feel that it makes sense. After all,
PoisonIC.gif
and
PsychicIC.gif
almost have the same color icons.

Eh, I think that Poison is much more closely related to Grass than Psychic. I mean, a lot of Grass-types are also Poison-type. Like Rock and Ground.

Why would they even need to do such a thing?

So, wait?

No more Grass-types for the poison ones?

...Damn, this is gonna lead to a major change in my strategies...

Poison types being paired with Grass-types was also weird imo, considering they have an advantage...

But putting them with Psychic wasn't the right answer. The fact that a lot of Poison-types are purple (Grimer/Muk, Ekans/Weezing, Zubat/Golbat/Crobat, Koffing/Weezing, Swalot...) makes it work at least a bit better than Grass, though.

Maybe the only thing to do is have a new Poison energy.

EDIT: Okie, after re-reading this I see I come off as rather sour. Not my intenet. I'm fine with the change if they thought it was neccesary. I'm actually liking how the TCG is changing for DP, new things are always nice.

IIRC, they've represented poisons as psychics before, not just as grass. I must admit though, the addition of more psychic types in the metagame is going to be a pain for those who already carry around Psychic weaknesses, like those already using actual Psychic Pokémon (because Ghosts are represented by Psychic too).

If only the Ghosts were represented as Dark types, we wouldn't have a real problem.

Well I just got back into the card game awhile ago and I noticed that alot of the cards are totally different type then they should be. Like a pidgeoto thats electric and a eggsecute that is fighting type and a steel type pikachu. I was like wtf. but they like say delta species on them or something like that... so I dunno what that means

^ Those are Delta Species Pokemon. They are supposed to be weird types.

That card was the first poison type represented as Psychic. There haven't been any before. I suppose they did it because of the whole purple thing...

The DP card game is definitely better, though. :D The changes are awesome. DP2 also has poison Pokemon as psychic types.

I think it is stupid.
Although this is very true, I understand where they're coming from. The coloring, and the fact that it gives many of those Grass/Poison types some flavor. But it really dosen't make any actual SENSE. Dark belongs in Psychic more than Poison does, that's for sure.

Yeah. I've never understood why they ever decided to do that.

Ah, the days before Delta Species, when Horsea was Water, and not fire, and Charizard were Fire, like God intended...

Reading "like God intended" made me fall out of my chair, laughing.

But yes, I can't stand the Delta Species. Make me sick. >_<

Like most fan Pokémon.

Yeah. I've never understood why they ever decided to do that.

There are only 9 types in the TCG. Two of those are rare, and several types such as Electric and Fire have an incredibly lack of Pokemon. They did it to balance the game and cheat by adding "new Pokemon" that didn't exist to gameplay.

What are you talking about? Delta Species Pokemon were created as a mechanic to "pass the time" until D/P, since they were taking so long to come out and sets were lacking in creativity. A lack of types does not mean the game is not balanced... this is not like the gameboy games. The element of Pokemon in the card game is not usually the primary concern of a player - more like, the strengths of a card, its combos, its HP, etc. The "type" is usually one of the last concerns, unless the metagame is heavily populated by a certain deck that uses one big and powerful Pokemon that can only be countered by its actual weakness. Even then, there are no decks that use 100% the same type, since in such a case, most of the Pokemon would probably have the same weakness, and a deck containing that weakness could rip the entire deck apart. Usually, decks do not even have the same elements of Pokemon in them. Even if they did create DS Pokemon to "cheat," Fire and Lightning Pokemon are still underpopulated. ;p

For the most part, I've always found Fire and Lightning to be a bit impractical, anyway.

They have expensive moves, and though they're destructive, they're tricky to build decks around. Which may be why they're underpopulated.

Just my opinion, though.

Dude....Poison types were WEAK to Psychic...wtf!?! Since when does color decide type?

"Ok! let's get to work! Snorlax is a Water type, Grimer's a psychic, and Pinsir's a ground type!"

Lame, much? Poison types being grass made the most sens out of any of the secondary types, IMO. If they want to shake things up, then do what we've been asking for for years! Ice types get their own symbol, dragon types get their own symbol, and as many of you have said, Ghost types shifted over to dark.

Considering the rarity of both and their similar advantages and weaknesses, I think they should've combined Dark and Steel into one type in the first place, when they were introduced. It's silly to have them both seperate.
