I'm looking into doing some research on the Pokemon phenomenon, particularly the Pokegods of the first generation, and I was wondering if anyone from a country other than the US, especially those not English-speaking, knew anything about the Pokegods.

Japan is my biggest concern, since so far I'm only able to turn up that the Pokegods were an American aspect of the fandom. Any links to non-English sites, or stories, rumours, etc. would be really helpful.

The only two Pokemon I know of being canon "gods" are Mew and Arceus, and even then it's canon that there were many Mew so I think Mew got reconned from being a Pokemon god to being the origin of all Pokemon.

I think this guy speaks of Nidogod, Charcoalt, and stuff like that. I never thought to look up ideas like this to see if other languages have them.

There was a rumor of the existence of alleged "Pokégods" in Red and Blue circulating my elementary school back then. I'm assuming it was other places too.

You mean things like pikablu in rby ??
Ive heard of them
Ireland? And you're from/are there, right?

It'd be helpful if you could tell me how you heard about them (playground or Internet), and if the latter if you could provide any links. I don't know if Ireland has "Pokemon.ire" or something like that.

Haha. That's the site I'm doing research for.

I actually read through that entire website last night lol. I'm in Canada so not very different that the U.S. We had all of those rumors floating around in elementary school. People constantly trying trying the codes and failing. Or people lying and saying they caught them but never giving any evidence. We all also made up our own little stories and Pokegods for fun and spread them around. I miss the RBY days *sigh*.

My Cousin told me of the sacred Pokégod, he was an ancient profit, and his name was Nathan. He told me of a Pokégod in the game known as Red and Blue, the next day I tried out the trick.

I then found out it was just Missingno., I lol'd.

I didn't lol :(

I heard about PokéGods like Pikablu, Rainer, Charcolt and Sapusaur a long time ago in teh Internetz. Didn't believe them to exist even then, now I know they were just a big hoax.

I did, however, try a weird trick back then in Red. It involved using some number of Max Repels and then searching Power Plant for a blinking stone that was supposed to get you to Johto. It was obviously a hoax, too, but I fell for it.

I remember back when Gold and Silver was upcoming release in Japan, my local 7-11 in the middle of North Carolina's country area imported the Japanese cards and sold them at an inflated rate... imagine my friend's surprise when they came over to my house and I showed then about a hundred new "Pokegods", heheh.

I always fell for that crap. I was gullible. I did, however, draw the line at GameShark. I was afraid of it. Afraid of the other dimensions it would create.

Also, I should add that although I fell for it, I was too terrified to do it- the idea of something nobody had taken a photo of yet, no more info... it scared me. I don't know why, but as a child it was exciting AND horrifying.

As for other countries, I... don't really know. However, I thought it might help to know that "Mewthree" was portrayed as an official new Pokemon in the musical Pokemon Live! that went around America. It looked about like the armored Mewtwo on mega steroids so that probably didn't help. I wish I could be more helpful but that's all I have to contribute. I love this kind of thing so I will certainly be lurking and learning, though =)

I read on a Swedish website (www.fuska.nu, it's removed so don't bother look it up) about "Goldlax" (the evolution of Snorlax) and HoTwo (a fusion of Ho-Oh and Mewtwo).

Other countries worship Phanpy and Snorlax. So what? The people who worship those pokémon think that good people will be humans in a new life, that not good not bad people will become miltanks and that bad people will become pokémon.
