Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Pokémon Academy: Director's Cut!
For those of you who don't already know, this fanfic is called Pokémon Academy, and the story is quite simple. It's about a young, aspiring trainer named Alex who attends an elite Pokémon trainer's school that's sorta like a cross between Hogwarts from Harry Potter and Duel Academy from Yu-Gi-Oh GX.
With better grammar and no plot-holes, I hope you will all enjoy this redux of my previous chapters, after which the story will pick up where it left off.
So, without further ado, let us now begin.
This world is inhabited by wondrous creatures known as Pocket Monsters, or Pokémon for short. Over the many centuries that the Pokémon have inhabited this world, humans have bonded with them in many different ways, but most commonly as Pokémon Trainers. At the age of 10, children are qualified to become official Pokémon Trainers, and accompanied by the starter Pokémon they receive from their region’s resident Pokémon laboratory, they set off on an amazing journey. On this journey, trainers seek out different types of Pokémon, and capture them in a Pokéball. Once captured, these Pokémon bond with their trainers, and are taught to use their powers to their full potential. With these amazing partners, trainers seek out others like themselves, and engage in what are known as Pokémon battles, amazing contests of skill and strength.
From here, trainers choose many different paths in life. Some become breeders to learn how to care for and raise healthy Pokémon. Others become researchers who seek to discover the mysteries of Pokémon. Others become coordinators who show off their Pokémon in dazzling fashion contests. And others choose to battle in the Pokémon League, in the hopes of becoming legendary trainers known as Pokémon Masters. But no matter how humans choose to interact with Pokémon, everyone starts out as a Pokémon trainer.
And in the middle of a southern region known as the Rosary Islands, there is an elite school that teaches young Pokémon trainers to be the best they can be. It is known throughout the world simply as Pokémon Academy.
And this is the story of a very special young boy named Alex, an aspiring young Pokémon trainer who is about to begin his new life at Pokémon Academy.

It was a beautiful sunny September day at the ship port in Olivine City. The sun reflected off of the surface of the water as a flock of Pidgeys flew overhead. Moored at the dock was a huge hovercraft, being boarded by young children wearing white ceremonial cloaks.
One of these children was a young boy named Alex Reed. He stood at the pier, ready to join his fellow classmates. His mother stood behind him, prepared to wish him well, on his journey.......
........and his little sister Millie was clinging to his cloak, bawling her eyes out.
"WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” wailed Millie. "PLEASE DON'T GO, BIG BROTHER! I DON'T WANT YOU TO GO! WAAAAAAAAAH!"
"Hey, c'mon now, Millie,.” said Alex. "I'm sorry, but I have to leave. The hovercraft's waiting."
"NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!” bawled Millie. "YOU'RE NEVER GONNA COME BACK, AND I'LL NEVER SEE YOU AGAAAAIN!"
At this point, Alex's mother walked over, and gently placed her hands on Millie's shoulders.
"It's all right, Millie. Don’t be sad," she said gently. "Alex isn't going away forever. He's just going away to school for a while. When he's done with school, he'll be back."
Millie stopped wailing, but kept sniffing as tears came out of her eyes."But I'll miss him so much...."
At this point, Alex knelt down and put his arm around Millie. "I know, Sissy. I'll miss you too. But like Mom said, I won't be gone forever. I'm going to a very special school that's gonna teach me to become a great Pokémon trainer. But I promise to e-mail you as often as I can, and I'll come and visit during the holidays."
Millie blinked the tears out of her eyes, smiled, and held out her pinky. "You promise?"
"I promise", said Alex as he interlaced his pinky with hers. “Or I’ll eat a thousand Tamato berries with no water.” Alex hugged Millie tightly, then picked her up as he stood up and faced his mother.
"To be honest, I don't blame Millie for being upset,” said Alex’s mother. “She was only a baby when you first left on your Pokémon journey, and now you're leaving again just when she's old enough to know you. And to be honest, I'm a little broken up, too."
"Aww, Mom...."
"But I'm still so proud of you. To think you've been accepted to the top trainer's school in the country! With the education you'll receive there, who knows how far you'll go as a trainer! It's just too bad your father couldn't come to see you off."
"It can't be helped.” said Alex. "I know he’s busy with work. But he did buy me that sweet laptop as a going-away present, so I’m happy."
"Well, whether he's here or not, I know he's just as proud of you as I am.", said Alex's mother. "Anyway, when you're at the Academy, don't forget to listen to your teachers, and get along with the other students. And...well....just do your best, and I'll be proud of you no matter what."
"Thanks, Mom. I will,” said Alex. "Now I'd better get going. The hovercraft's waiting." Alex put down Millie, and kissed her on the forehead.
Alex's mother hugged him. "Goodbye, Alex. And good luck!"
Alex ran off toward the hovercraft as his mother and Millie waved to him. As they waved, Millie yelled, "Goodbye, big brother! And good luck! Promise you'll come back soon!"
As Alex reached the pier, he gave his admission letter to the school official, who gave him permission to board. Looking for an empty seat, he found one right next to a spunky-looking girl with her red hair done in twin pigtails. Just then, the school official stepped up to the front of the craft, and took roll call. Naturally, Alex answered "here" when his name was called. About a minute later, satisfied that everyone was present, the official gave the signal to start the hovercraft. And as the engines fired up, so did Alex's feeling of anticipation. In a matter of hours, he would become a full-fledged student at the most famous Pokémon trainer's school in the world - Pokémon Academy.
The hovercraft sped across the glassy surface of the ocean, carrying its precious cargo of the newest Academy students. On a whim, Alex detached a Pokéball from a chain he was wearing on his neck. He expanded and opened it. A grey Eevee emerged from the ball, sparkles flying off of its body as it materialized.
"Hey, Eevee," said Alex. "Check out the ocean. Isn't it beautiful?"
"Wow! A grey Eevee!" exclaimed the girl sitting next to him. "I've never seen one before!"
"Oh, you like it? Eevee was the Pokémon I started my journey with," said Alex. "And ever since then, it’s been my most valuable partner." Alex suddenly noticed a Vulpix sitting on Macey’s lap. “And who’s your little friend there?”
"Oh, you mean my little sweetie pie?” smiled the girl as she petted her Vulpix. "This Vulpix was the first Pokémon I ever caught. We've been through so much together; it's almost like a sister to me."
As Vulpix and Eevee caught sight of each other, they smiled and shook tails.
"Well Eevee, looks like you found your first friend at the Academy", said Alex.
"Sure looks that way.", smiled the girl. "Oh, yeah. I'm Macey from Mahogany Town. What's your name?"
"I'm Alex from Goldenrod City." The two smiled and shook hands.
Just then, the two heard a groan from the back of the craft, and looked behind them to see what was going on. Near the back was a boy sporting a pompadour. He had gone completely green in the face, and looked like he was trying VERY hard not to vomit.
"Yeesh", said Macey. "It's a high-tech hovercraft, for crying out loud. How can you get seasick here?"
"Maybe he just has a sensitive stomach." said Alex. "It happens to the best of us."
They turned back around. "Anyway, that gray Eevee is so cool! You gotta tell me how you got it!" said Macey.
"You really wanna know?", said Alex. "Well, the truth is, this Eevee was a gift from a dear friend who died a while back. It was a little over a year ago, right before I started my Pokémon journey....."
A little over a year ago......
Alex stood in front of a headstone underneath a Pecha Berry tree, with a kaleidoscope of Beautifly perched in the branches. A bouquet of lilies had already been placed on the grave. He stared at them silently for about a minute, and then took a small photo out of his pocket. In it, Alex and a girl with honey-blonde hair and pale white skin were sitting on a porch swing together, smiling happily. Alex laid a kiss on the photo, then knelt down and gently slid it into the bouquet. He then placed a hand on top of the headstone.
"I'm sorry, Anna," said Alex sadly. "I know how much you wanted to go on a Pokémon journey with me, and see what real Pokémon were like up close. I wish there was something I could have done to help you."
"You helped more than anyone ever could," said a voice behind him. Alex turned around to see a young woman who he immediately recognized as Anna's mother. She had honey-blonde hair like her daughter, and wore a black dress with a matching hat and fishnet veil.
"Oh, Mrs. Harper!" said Alex in surprise. "Well, I didn't do all that much. All I did was come over every now and then and hang out with her to help cheer her up."
Mrs. Harper walked over to the grave, picked up the photo Alex had placed in the bouquet, and gazed at it with a solemn expression. "I still remember the day I took this picture. We were all so happy that day, just having fun together. It almost made me forget Anna was sick."
"Well, we didn't know each other very long, but we were really good friends," said Alex. "And I always enjoyed hanging out with her. She was just so much fun to be with."
"Your visits were always the best part of her day," said Mrs. Harper. "You were always able to make her smile, even when I couldn't. I still remember how her face would light up when she talked about how you two made a promise that one day when she got better, the two of you would journey together as Pokémon trainers. You were able to give her true happiness, however brief." Mrs. Harper gently placed a hand on Alex's shoulder. "The truth is, there was nothing anyone could have done. The doctors did everything they could, but it was a rare disease, and the chances of curing it were impossible. I kept hoping there was a chance she'd make it, but.....oh, my poor little baby....." Mrs. Harper finally broke down and fell to her knees, sobbing.
Alex went to her side and hugged her. "I know how you feel, Mrs Harper. I miss her too."
Mrs. Harper hugged him tightly. "Thank you for being so good to my daughter. She couldn't have asked for a better friend than you." She let him go and dried her eyes as the two stood up and stared at the Pecha berry tree where the Beautifly were perched.
"This is a beautiful spot you picked out," said Mrs. Harper. "With all those Beautifly up there, it's like she has her own little flock of angels watching over her."
"Well, Anna loved all Pokémon, but Beautifly were always her favorite," said Alex. "I figured she'd be happiest among them."
"Oh, that reminds me!" exclaimed Mrs. Harper suddenly. "I have something for you."
Mrs. Harper opened up a leather bag she had left next to the tree, and took out a glass incubator with a Pokémon egg inside and a Pokéball on top, and placed it on the table. Alex stared at it in amazement.
"This is a Pokémon egg that my husband got as a gift from a Pokémon farm during one of his trips. We gave it to Anna so she could have a Pokémon to start a journey with when she got better. She said that she wanted you to have it if anything happened to her. And also, think of it as a thank-you gift from me, for making my Anna's last days a lot brighter than I could have made them." She handed the egg to Alex. "It's yours."
For a brief moment, Alex just stared at her, dumbfounded. Then his eyes grew to the size of saucers, and he smiled as he happily accepted the egg. "Thank you so much, Mrs. Harper! This is great! And I promise that no matter what kind of Pokémon hatches from this egg, I'll take good care of it!" Alex hugged the incubator tightly. "It's the least I can do to honor Anna's memory."
“Sorry to hear about your friend,” said Macey with a sympathetic look. “It must have been hard losing someone so close to you.”
“It was, but she left me a wonderful gift, and I’ll always be grateful for it,” said Alex. “Anyway, when I brought the egg home that day, my mom and sister were over the moon. Millie and I took care of the egg, so it could hatch strong and healthy. We sang songs to it, took it for walks, read books to it, watched TV with it, took baths with it, and even slept with it. A couple of days before I became a trainer, it finally hatched. When it turned out to be a gray Eevee, we were all really excited."
"Wow! That's so cool!" said Macey. "They say that different-colored Pokémon are REALLY hard to find, and the chances of even catching on is, like, one in a bazillion! So, how does it do in battle?"
"A lot better than you might think," said Alex. "Eevee may look cute and cuddly, but it royally pwns in battle! Not to mention it's picked up a few tricks over the past year. Hey, if you really want to see it in action, you wanna battle after the opening ceremony?"
"Now you're talking!" said Macey. "I've always wanted to see a different-colored Pokémon in action! That reminds me, what other Pokémon do you have?"
"Not that many," said Alex. "Just a Marril, and a Phanpy. But they're both awesome Pokémon, too. So, what kind of Pokémon do you have, Macey?"
"Well, you've already met Vulpix," She gently stroked her Vulpix as it smiled. "I also have a Quilava, which evolved from the Cyndaquil I got from Professor Elm. There's also Macargo, Starmie, and Electabuzz."
"Wow, that's sure a lot of fire-type Pokemon," said Alex.
"You bet! I absolutely LOVE fire Pokémon!" said Macey as she huggled her Vulpix. "Their heat and passion just gets me all fired up!"
Just then, there was an announcement over the PA. "Attention all passengers. We are now on final approach to Gaia Island. If you will all look through the window on your left, you will see the main Academy building coming into view. Once the craft comes to a complete stop, please proceed to the docking bay in an orderly fashion, and await further instructions. Thank you for your cooperation, and on behalf of the entire academy faculty, we welcome you to your new home away from home."
As the hovercraft pulled up next to the dock, the passenger door opened, and the students disembarked. As Alex and Macey looked behind them, they noticed that the boy with the pompadour was still looking green in the face. One of the officials was rubbing his back, saying “Easy there, son. We're on solid ground now, you'll be okay". After letting out a deafening belch, the green left his face. The boy took a few seconds to get his bearings, then straightened up and joined the others in line.
As Alex and the other waited on the dock, they looked up and got their first real glimpse of Pokémon Academy. It was truly a majestic building, which sorta looked like it had been built back in the colonial era. In the center of the roof, there was a flag that bore the Academy logo, while in the corners; there were four flags that bore symbols of a flame, a water drop, a lightning bolt, and a leaf.
"Wow," said Alex. "That building is amazing. It almost looks some kind of palace"
"Yeah. And to think we're gonna be going to school here," said Macey.
Just then, five Officer Jennys arrived, and one of them stepped out in front of the crowd. She held up a megaphone, and spoke to the crowd.
"Hello, everyone, and welcome to Pokémon Academy. The opening ceremonies will begin in just a moment. But before we head inside, I'd like to give you a quick rundown of the history of our school. This school was first created 40 years ago by a small group of elite Pokémon trainers who wished to pass on their skills to the next generation of young, aspiring trainers. As the years passed, much like some species of Pokémon, this school has changed and evolved with the times. However, the overall spirit has remained the same. And that spirit is to help Pokémon trainers from all walks of like to be the best they can be, and to succeed in whatever path they choose in life. I hope you'll all do your very best with that in mind."
Just then, the main gate behind the Jennys opened.
"Everyone, the opening ceremonies are about to start. Once inside, our headmaster will give you all the details of your sorting and registration. Now, if you're all ready, please follow us to the main auditorium."
The Officer Jennys turned around and headed for the main gate of the school, and the students followed.
As the students walked the long, classroom-lined hallways leading to the auditorium, Alex turned to Macey.
"So, how'd you end up applying to Pokémon Academy?" he asked.
"Well, it was after the Johto League Silver Conference", said Macey. "I was in Division H of the semi-finals, but I didn't earn enough points to move on to the victory tournament. Just as I'm leaving the closing ceremonies, I bump into a recruiter, who told me how impressed he was with my battle skills. When he told me he thought that *I* might have what it takes to join Pokémon Academy, I almost fainted. As soon as I got home, I filled out my application on the pamphlet he gave me and mailed it in. I took the entrance exam, I passed, and here I am."
"That's almost just like what happened to me!" said Alex. "Except I had just lost in the quarter-finals of the Whirl Cup. On my way back to the mainland, I met a recruiter on the boat. When he told me he thought I was right for Pokémon Academy, I nearly fell overboard, I was so surprised."
"Have you ever given any thought...." quoted Macey.
"To your full potential as a trainer?" finished Alex.
"They gave us the exact same speech!" they both said together as they laughed.
"You know, I still remember the battle portion of the entrance exam", said Alex. "It was all thanks to Eevee that I'm here...."
Alex stood in the arena, facing off against his battle proctor in a three-on-three battle for his practical skills exam. His Phanpy had easily defeated the proctor's Mightyena and Venomoth, but it was proving to be a different story with the proctor's Gengar. It had easily defeated both Phanpy and Marrill, leaving him with only one Pokémon left. He HAD to win this one to qualify for the Academy. Fortunately, he'd had the foresight to save his best Pokémon for last.
"Eevee, I choose you!", Alex yelled as he threw his Pokéball. Eevee emerged, sparkles flying from its body.
"Okay Eevee, we have to win this battle to make it into the Academy! You ready to give it your all?"
"Vee!" Eevee nodded, ready to go.
"Okay, Eevee, Swift attack!" Eevee launched a barrage of stars from its mouth, but they all passed through Gengar harmlessly.
"Bad choice, kid," said the proctor. "You should know that Normal attacks have no effect on Ghost-types."
"Maybe, but by the same coin, Ghost-type attacks have no effect on Normal-types, either!" said Alex. "Which sorta puts us at a stalemate."
"Not quite, kid," said the proctor. "Gengar's got a few surprises handy for just such an occasion. Gengar, use Sludge Bomb!"
"Gengar!" Gengar yelled as it fired balls of sludge from its mouth. Eevee was nailed, but managed to get to its feet.
"I guess that gives me the upper hand here.", said the proctor. "So, how are you planning to win this?"
"You're about to find out," said Alex. "Eevee, use Agility!"
Eevee began running circles around Gengar at super speed.
"Come on, Gengar! Try to slow it down with another Sludge Bomb!" Gengar tried to launch one, but the little Eevee was so fast, Gengar was fiinding it impossible to aim. Eevee began zigzagging all over the field, zipping here and there. Gengar was having such a horrible time trying to even FIND Eevee, that it eventually got dizzy and couldn't tell which way was up.
"We've got an opening, Eevee! Use Iron Tail!" Eevee zipped straight toward Gengar, and as it jumped into the air somersaulting rapidly, its tail glowed. Eevee's tail slammed into Gengar hard, sending it flying all the way to the back of the battlefield. Gengar managed to stay on its feet, but was looking pretty banged up.
"Not bad, kid. But you haven't won yet! Gengar, use Psywave!" Gengar fired off a wave of energy at Eevee.
"Okay, Eevee, time to finish it! Use Shadow Ball!" Eevee fired off an inky black ball of energy from its mouth, which plowed right through the Psywave and nailed Gengar dead on. Gengar was sent flying into the back on the wall, and then fell to the ground unconscious.
"Oh, and by the way, you shoulda also known that Ghost-types are HIGHLY vulnerable to other Ghost-type attacks.", said Alex with a grin.
"Gengar is unable to battle! Eevee is the winner!" said a judge nearby. "The winner of this exam battle is Alex from Goldenrod City!"
"Eevee, we did it! I'm in!" said Alex. Eevee leaped into Alex's arms, and Alex hugged it tightly.
"That was an excellent battle, son," smiled the proctor. "I have to say I was NOT expecting that Shadow Ball. And I REALLY wasn't expecting to see one that powerful from a non-Ghost-type. You battled well, and you earned this victory. Welcome to Pokémon Academy."
"Thank you, sir," Alex smiled as he shook the proctor's hand.
".....and that's how I passed my exam," said Alex. Macey had a look of surprise on her face.
"Your Eevee knows Shadow Ball?!" she exclaimed. "Now I REALLY wanna battle it!"
Just then, they reached the large double doors that led to the auditorium. Two of the Jennys stepped up and opened them.
"Everyone, please enter through here," said one of the Jennys. "The opening ceremonies are about to begin."
Alex began to follow the others inside, but then he felt a tug on his cloak. As he turned around, he noticed there was someone stepping on it. As he looked up, he saw that that particular someone was a very pretty girl about his own age. She had purple hair tied in two pigtails which framed a small, cute face.
"Umm, excuse me, but you're stepping on my cloak," said Alex.
The girl looked down and suddenly blushed. She gave a surprised "Eep!" as she quickly stepped back, and had an embarrassed look on her face.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" the girl stammered as she bowed repeatedly. "I didn't mean to step on your cloak! I wasn't paying attention! I'm REALLY sorry!"
"Hey, don't stress over it," said Alex. "It's no big deal, really. I'm not mad at you or anything."
"Yeah, I know," said the girl meekly. "I didn't mean to be such a klutz, but I can't help it. I'm just a little nervous right now. I'm really not used to this sort of thing."
"Hold on a second," said Alex as he fished around in his pocket. "I have something here that'll help." He handed her a small, green piece of candy. "These are my favorite brand of mints. I always heard that mints help calm you down when you're stressed. Try one."
The girl accepted the mint, and popped it into her mouth. After a few seconds, she took a deep breath, let it out, and smiled.
"Wow, you were right! I feel better already! Thank you so much!" she smiled.
"Don't mention it.", said Alex. "Now, let's get going before we get left behind."
"Sure thing!" said the girl. She bowed to him one last time before she ran to catch up with the others.
Alex stood there smiling, until he heard Macey yelling from up ahead. "Hey Alex, come on!" she called. "Hurry up, the opening ceremonies are starting!"
"Okay, I'll be right there!" Alex called back as he hurried back to his spot in the crowd.
As Alex caught up to Macy, his heart skipped a beat as the crowd entered the auditorium. A feeling of euphoria washed over him as he and the others stepped through the double doors. He knew right then and there that this was the start of something big.

*********************
****************
******************

**************
And so begins Alex's first year in the school known as Pokémon Academy. And with it, the start of a brand new adventure.
