When Pokemon were first discovered 2mil years ago (according to Bulbapedia) where they called 'Pokemon?'

I always kind of thought Pokemon (Pocket Monsters) were called such in their world because they could be captured and shrunk down with a Poke Ball. But maybe it is the other way around since the first Pokemon were obviously around before the Poke Ball.

So I assume in ancient times, Pokemon were also used as companions, food, etc...but do you think they were called 'Pokemon' back then?

When do you think the actual term, 'Pokemon' was coined in their world?

Yeah, there's no way that was the same war the Maiden's lover died in. There's nothing to connect the two at all.

what are you talking about?

I only showed u the timeline article to show you that Bulbapedia thinks Aaron sealed Lucario in the staff 2,000 years ago.

I agree the war Sir Aaron avoided didnt have anything to do with the Maiden's Peak war, but Bulbapedia says they both happened 2000 years ago so Ill go with that.

I'd say pokemon were not called pokemon back when they first appeared. They were called pocket monsters because they could be caught in balls and stored in your pocket, but then at the start, there was noting around to do this.

And yeah, Sir Aron lived 200 years ago, but I don't think any humans existed in the times when pokemon first appeared. so I say they were not called pokemon.

I would place Sir Aaron et al at about 400-700 years ago, actually.

I saw that timeline once, a while ago. I was like, "What, did someone get their weird pet theory into the timeline?" Because it makes NO sense.

The only thing I could think of was that the person who dated the Movie 8 past events way was going on the line (from the dub, don't know if it's an accurate translation or not) that said Aaron lived in a time "before there were Pokeballs." Yet we saw really old Pokeballs (or as close to Pokeballs as makes no nevermind) in some of the "ancient places" episodes, like Puzzle of Pokemopolis and so forth...even the King of Pokelantis's "spell ball" was like a Pokeball prototype.

So if you insist Aaron lived before Pokeballs, he would have HAD to live thousands of years ago (did I inflate it in my memory, or did anyone else see it once reading "20,000 years ago?" Probably the former...ah, well).

That's when I came up with my own theory, that Pokeballs were a "lost technology" that resurfaced during the Renaissance-equivalent time period.

But the 2000 year date? Just un-freaking-likely.

ok sorry everybody, i didnt mean for this thread to be about what time period sir aaron was from. I just put that down because i knew it was before pokeballs...

My real focus for this thread is "when was the name, 'Pokemon' coined?" Are they named after Pokeballs? Or are Pokeballs named after the animals themselves?
