Is it just me, or are there parallels between Light Yagami and L and Paul and Ash? Check it out, Light, as popular as he is, is a dangerous sociopath. However, his intelligence enables him to know what makes people happy and what are considered pro-social values; as well as conceal his truly sick nature. Paul's anti-social tendencies are no secret, though he knows how to operate people. (remember when he gave away his Azumarill after his first gym challenge?) L, also known as Ryuzaki, is the world's greatest detective, one of the most intelligent people on earth, yet has no social skills whatsoever. Still, he is somehow the hero of this story. Ash lacks Ryuzaki's freakish idiosyncrasies, yet can also be "childish and hates to lose". They are completely alike and different at the same time. Light ends up having Ryuzaki killed, but ultimately does not win. Ash has only beaten Paul at Pokeringer, thus far.

What is more, I believe Ash represents Confucianism where Paul represents Qin Dynasty Legalism; this is reflected by their completely different approaches as trainers. What do you think?

Everyone knows (and by "everyone" I mean "the people on tgcomm on livejournal") that the real Light Yagami standin in Pokemon is Cyrus. Seriously, his name and the name Kira are just alternate forms of each other.

Of course, imagine Cynthia as L and Giratina as Ryuk and I dare you to get that image out of your mind.

Giratina and Perfect Apples... Thanks for molesting my mind.

In that case, is Handsome Matsuda? Or Light's father?

Probably Matsuda. He is too young to give birth to Akagi.

Definately Matsuda.

Anyway, all kinds of cartoons, video games, et cetera have a Light and an L, because they all need a bad guy and a good guy. That's what Light and L are, the baddie and the goodie. And it's the same with Paul and Ash. Paul is the baddie, Ash is the goodie. And all of them are generic to their role. They're similar for a reason, basically.

....I wonder how long this thread can go without anyone mentioning yaoi...
oh, wait.

XD

Personally, I'd say Barry fits the role of Matsuda, who was Light's team booster, not unlike Barry being Paul's fanboy...
I can see it now, after losing a major battle, Barry finds out what kind of person Paul really is:

"Matsuda!!! who're you shooting at?! Don't SCREW with me!!!"
"What was it all FOR, Light? What did your father die FOR?"
"Fath...you mean Soichiro Yagami? Earnest fools like that, who always stand for justice... are always made to look like fools! Do you want to keep livin in a society like THAT?"

Soichiro Yagami= Reggie

I just cannot wait to see Paul's emotions catch up with him.
