Pokémon Anime FAQ?

That one I know the official answer to.

According to one of the Pokemon scripwriters, whom I spoke with at Sakura Con 2002 (and really have to look up his name), the official answer is 'we don't know yet'.

Oh Arcanine.......*Remembers the multi-page debates we had in the old days about this one*

How can we compress the answer down to a couple of paragraphs while still being detailed? ^^;

An answer, in point form, too tired to write it all out...if BJG doesn't mind...BJG, you can use this if you want, just edit it into paragraphs or whatever and gimme credit. :-p

-anime meant to appeal mostly to kids, hence the "cute factor" of the first-stage Pokemon
-anime meant to advertise the games, hence the featuring of the 3 first-stage starters that you choose from at the beginning
-Ash *does* have some evolved Pokemon eg. Noctowl, Muk, Bayleef, Charizard, (previously) Pidgeotto/Pidgeot
-delivers the message that stronger isn't always better, it's what's in your heart that counts

Guess I'll have to answer based on experience

Shipping is a belief that two character have some intimate, or will have some intimate relationship with each other. On some scale, this is simply believing there's a boyfriend <-> girlfriend connection going on. Each different character couple is regared as a "[something]ship". People usually try to support thier "ship" with various factors from the anime and movies. Ash and Misty being together is a very popular one.

To add to the previous answer: because the writers say so

Satoshi, Kasumi, Takeshi... they're all Japanese names for the American equivilant to Ash, Misty, and Brock. I don't want to advertise, but I'm also kind lazy since a few of these names haven't gotten their English titles filled in yet... but enjoy.

http://pmr.bulbagarden.com/database/character.html

As you can see, not ALL of the characters are filled in, just the "main" ones.

Delilah Ketchum Satoshi's Mom (ƒTƒgƒV‚̃}ƒ})

Actually it's "Delia"...

And I was always under the impression that her official Japanese name was Hanako. It was never said in the show itself, but she's listed that way in the credits, isn't she?

Giovanni ?

Sakaki.

Vongole (ボンゴレ)
Canon (カノン)

Zanna & Rion (ザンナ&リオン)

English names are, respectively:

Lorenzo
Bianca
Annie & Oakley (I'm not sure which one's which, actually)

Vongole? The book I have calls him Bongore.

Nanba is still Nanba in English.

And to clear something up before it begins (and you all KNEW I would say this), there is a character with three different names. In Japan he's known as Jirarudan, and in English he's either Gelarden (on the closed captions) or "Lawrence III" in the adaptation book. Strangely, "Gelarden" is the closest to what the Japanese writers were *trying* to call him.

'What is the Sonans joke, and why is it ruined in the dub?'

Nanba is still Nanba in English.

FYI, in case it's news, the reason Nanba flips out so much is because nobody _ever_ gets his name right. Not because nobody brought him his lunch or whatever the dub used.

The 'Botch/Butch' thing however is directly from the original, where most people call him 'Kosanji' instead of Kosaburo.

Umi Del Mare (if you remember) cleared Bongore for me, plus another thing. On a Pokemon Special there was a dish served that was called "Pasutaa De Bongore". Umi says that there's a dish that matches the one on the TV show called Pasta De Vongole.

I guess sometimes Italian can't get it's way.

Here's some questions to add

Why does Jesse, James, and Meowth always go after Pikachu? And how do they pay for their stuff?
What's in the GS Ball?
How old is each character?

Team Rocket is always after Pikachu because, as Meowth stated in the second episode, "its powers exceed its evolutionary level." Ash's Pikachu is much more powerful than the average Pikachu, which appeals to Team Rocket, who are after rare and valuable Pokemon.

#6 Why does Ash leave all his Pokemon (aside from Pikachu) at home for the Houen journey?

While I know the answer, it makes me mildly upset...you wouldn't like me when I'm mildly upset...

I don't know who to contact, but Giovanni's Japanese name is Sakaki (ƒTƒJƒL).

What are the banned episodes? Why are they banned? How can I see them?

How Old Are Ash, Misty, May, Brock, Masato, Gary and Tracey During Advanced Generation??

I only know some as to what Serebii.net says... at least according to this episode guide list. (Speacials aren't included in this)

Beauty And The Beach - James had breasts
Tentacool and Tentacruel - Relation to the 9/11 incident
Legend of Dratini - "Unappropriate display" of a gun
Electric Soldier Porygon - The seizures incident. Considered a health hazard
The Ice Cave - Unappropriate display of affection (And it wasn't human-human I'll tell you that.)

You can only see any of them BUT Electric Soldier Porygon if you can get a hold of the Japanese VHS. Although I heard Beauty and The Beach along with Tentacool and Tentacruel were taken off the hook and are available in the US on VHS. Electric Soldier Porygon is and will forever be permanently banned.

There are a few arguements as to how old everyone is. But there isn't a significant time gap between the two series (the end of the Johto Series was at the same day from the start of the Advance Generation series).

But the confrimed absolute truth is that May is 10 years old. She said it herself on the first episode in the Japanese version. (US I'm not so sure)

At most I'd think the characters would only age 2 years throughout the 270 episodes. They may seem older, but you grow a lot in one year. But to this point, yes it's really impossible to tell.

Not quite, A_L. The Tentacool one was distributed as normal on the first season VHS series. You might be able to pick it up somewhere still...maybe some kinda pawnshop. It's on the "Seaside Pikachu" VHS/DVD.
