I am wondering if the anime could get a reboot and start all over at the being and try to fix the mess the current anime has become. First of all have Ash not being a complete idot at the start but actually knows some basics to pokemon as he would have to pass a trainer's license test. Secondly have the characters actually physically age, becuase I hate seeing Ash being the same age as he started out (he was 10) even after years of travelling, Thirdly have the villains handled much better, because it is dissapointing to having no major team rocket storyline or the lackluster attempt of the Team Magma-Aqua gang war, or the absence of Team Plasma. There are so many other points but I am feeling a little to slack to point them all out.

First of all, Best Wishes is the reboot. One of the major things the developers of B/W were aiming for was to level the playing field between older and newer fans. The anime has taken that idea and this is their way of showing it.

Does it matter if he ages? Characters like Bart Simpson are still ten. It would become harder to advertise stuff to little kids if Ash aged. Just enjoy the show.

I completely agree with @Ash Ketchum!. BW wasn't a full reboot, but it was kind of a restart in some aspects. The target audience for Pokemon is kids, most of the kids they are targeting now weren't around when Pokemon started and everything. I'm not so sure about them trying to target those of us that are older though. They seem to be doing the essentials again so that the younger fans can learn like we did when it started in the 90s. And as Ash Ketchum! said, it doesn't matter if Ash ages. Bart Simpson doesn't age. Other cartoons don't age either. Its called a floating timeline. Its just a plot device used in stories where time doesn't particularly mater. They want to keep Ash younger to appeal to the younger kids, but they apparently don't want to replace him either.

What if they replace the main characters and restart the story each region? You know, like with Gundam, Digimon or any multi-generational series/meta-series for kids so when they try to promote the next generation they don't have to worry about continuity from the previous series? Is it wrong to think outside the box?

Hell, for a non-kids example, what about Doctor Who? The new series is very in continuity with the old series, leaving newcomers lost when it comes to in-series references and jokes. But you know what? The new series is what got me into Doctor Who, despite the continuity lock.

And yes, Gundam is for kids (in Japan).

They should've make Best Wishes taking place in an alternate universe as an excuse for all the development Ash lost in the last 13 seasons.

Oh you mean franchises like Digimon that had their fads die out quickly? Ash is the face of the anime. When some people think of Pokemon, the first thing that comes to their mind is Ash. Nintendo gets this, and Ash probably won't get replaced.

Ash has been over used if they wanted a child character it could of work if they had a new character like the generation 5 hero. Holding on a character for too long familar runs the risk of the audience failing to recongise that the character is not of all there is to the franchise. Characters should have proper run long enough for to properly develop in behaviour, and once their characterisation has run its course the charcter can be retired

Please only use this thread to discuss what a potential reboot would be like. If you want to talk about how Satoshi, the Pokemon League has both the Do you think Ash/Satoshi should be replaced? and the Do you feel that Ash/Satoshi's character has been reset? threads to look through.

Sorry I did not noticed that a moderator was talking to me

But you know, personally, I enjoyed the character change of each Digimon series. Every one of them had different personalities, and every season had a different story. The leaders were all different, too. Tai, Davis, Takato, Takuya, and Marcus had all been given different personalities (I hadn't seen much of Xros Wars to say much about the new guy). Also, I don't know why so many fans complain about Digimon Savers, but I really enjoyed the new age for the main character - while all the others were 10-11, Marcus was 14. He was much older, still kiddie in many ways but thought and acted more like a teenager. As one of the older Digimon fans, I personally loved the older characters and the involvement of adults - it was refreshing in many ways, a turn from "10-year-old kiddies save the world" theme.

Same goes to pokemon. I would like Ash to get out of the show and bring in the game player characters. I mean, Gold represents Johto. Brendan represents Hoenn. Lucas represents Sinnoh. And Hilbert represents Unova. A lot of young kids who watch pokemon knows the existance of the games and the majority would've played it. They know there are different characters in the games.

But if they are not going to replace Ash, will it still hurt if they age Ash even just a teensy bit? I'm not asking them to make Ash an adult, but just a few years older than 10 would be okay. There are a lot of kids out there who watched pokemon from DP to BW and I heard many complain about Ash becoming even more kiddy and stupid after all he had been through DP. The kids are growing up - and wouldn't it be wonderful if Ash grew up along with them? Like, during a whole season? Wouldn't kids relate more to Ash if he actually grew up along with them? I can't remember if Ash even had a Happy Birthday episode - during all those years. Did he have one or not?

That's all I'm asking for - a reboot for aging and character change.

Oh, and by the way, The Simpsons isn't really a show for young children.
