Masuda has just revealed two new main series games, Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2. This is a big shock and while details are currently scarce, how do you think they'll affect the Anime, if at all?

Huh? Pokemon Black 2 and White 2? No Grey? Huh. I'm not too disappointed and it's certainly unexpected.

First thought that came to my mind:
Maybe this explains the fast pace with the gym badges? There must be something new in the sequels that Satoshi will do in the anime after the gyms/league.

I actually predicted a direct sequel to Black and White when N disappeared. I never thought anything like this would come true though.

It could be possible that this is the reason why the Black and White anime is breezing through the majority of the gym battles over the last few months. Assuming that Black 2 and White 2 are direct sequels of the original Black and White (not just enhanced remakes), I would like to believe that Ash and co. will be doing things related to these games after the Unova League.

Maybe it'll quiet fans who say the current arc's moving too fast. (Ash is currently at the sixth Gym and no Plasma in sight)

Yeah. I agree with Meron and Ampharos King.

It'll probably be something in these games for Ash to do in the anime, since he's breezing through the gyms so far.

interesting! maybe most probably some new areas i Eastern Unova So that Ash after his 8 badge, or Pokemon league goes and travels a bit around!! really shocked! Maybe a tournament where different trainers, meaning from different regions will appear!

If these new games bring a whole new region or area to explore then it is very likely that the anime will follow suit. Ash would most likely go to this new place, possibly with new characters, and they'd be an arc there and whatnot.

If they're set in Unova, then I can quite easily see them doing a filler arc unrelated to the games. With no new areas to explore and no new Pokemon to catch, then the anime probably wouldn't need to do relating to these games. They won't devote an entire arc to the plot of the games either. That's just not something the anime does.

Incidentally, if we did get a new region/area, and if Ash and friends went there, could we assume it'd begin around the same time the games are released? This is just pure conjecture from me, but there are twenty-two weeks between now and June 1st. So is it conceivable that they're be could twenty-two more episodes in this current saga, give or take a few?

Well, the presence of these games probably does make it more feasible that they will do postgame Unova, but as for BW being shorter than we would expect, the "3 year" thing could still ring true since the short has Meloetta in it, making them release 2 event legends at once. This makes it more plausible that there is only one other movie planned for BW, with Genesect. (and/or anything else they may have in mind)

I reckon Best Wishes will continue on into the region Black & White 2 are set in once the Unova League is over, with Iris and Cilan staying with Ash during his new journey. Assuming there are no new Pokemon being introduced aside from the Kyurem forms, it will probably be a shorter, Battle Frontier-like series.

I doubt Ash is going to win the Unova League now, (That's hardly a surprise, though) and I have a bad feeling Trip will be the one to knock him out of the competition so that Ash can get revenge in the new region's league, similar to May and Drew.

I think there's a chance that the Rocket-Dan will disband at the end of the current game storyline so the Plasma-Dan can come in and be the main villains of the BW2 storyline.

I also think Iris and Dent will follow Satoshi around for the new story.

Until now, I always said people are just jumping to conclusions with the whole "BW anime is faster paced"... but since Ash is already getting 6 of the 8 badges... and since we got something like this with the games that no one expected... maybe they really are trying to finish this journey quickly to start something new based on BW2

I have a bad feeling Trip will be the one to knock him out of the competition

I think I once speculated the Unova League final being Ash VS Trip with Trip winning, based on how they emphasize Trip's desire to challenge Adler... he kind of "derserve" it more than Ash... and while people may say that "Trip is just a beginner" - look at the Sinnoh GF, Dawn and Zoey both made it to the final and Zoey won the whole thing (with Dawn herself not being so far from winning it...) so it's possible... I can see Ash losing to Trip in the final and then seeing Trip VS Adler, with Trip losing...

I think there's a chance that the Rocket-Dan will disband at the end of the current game storyline so the Plasma-Dan can come in and be the main villains of the BW2 storyline

That's interesting... it really can be an opportunity for them to try once again to introduce Plasma in the anime... and TRio are really getting so boring and unnecessary so it'll be good to just wrap them up as soon as possible, they really don't have to waste time with them until next gen if there's a chance to finish with them earlier

Now I'm getting more excited for the anime (and Pokémon in general)
It's really great to have an exciting update like that after a long time with no real interesting news!

My guess: They'll change the last one or two gym leaders' teams to match BW2's (assuming they'll change them in the games).
And since Zekurem and Kyushiram are both going to be in the Keldeo movie (at least they're on the poster), whatever filler plot follows Unova might revolve around another Frontier (again, assuming it'll be in there.)
You've only explored half of Unova when the game ends. The rest could happen in the East half, which would allow Iris and Cilan to stay a little longer.

Except that Team Plasma may not even be the villains in the new games. Since we're dealing with sequels, the team will have essentially been disbanded; whether or not they will return as a cohesive group remains to be seen.

Yeah, of course. I'm just trying to think of what could happen, not necessarily what will happen.

Team Rocket were 'disbanded' in Gold/Silver, so something similar could happen with the remnants of TP - a few true believers continuing. Of course the anime never did something with that, but they've certainly thrown the rulebook out with BW2. Of course they would have to hurry up and introduce TP to make a disbanding of TP work in the anime. If anything, that could add more to the idea that Team Rocket won in the TR vs TP episodes, to set up the idea of a small resistance organisation of core TP members.

I'm still hanging on to the theory that there's a league disruption as a way to introduce TP. While I think we could get the remaining badges in the theoretical 22 or so episodes remaining until the release of the new games (which would also certainly lock in some 'Rival Destinies' if that pace were to occur), if the intention was to pick up some of the storyline of the sequels at about the time of their release, you can't really fit a league in.

Pokemon wise, the movie seems like it will be doing the bulk of the introductions for BW2 - indeed we still haven't seen Reshiram in the anime.

The BW2 situation also means there's no 'Grey compromise' to work with - the anime will have to make it's own decision on things like Opelucid city's appearance - rather than simply just follow what Grey does like we seemed to be expecting for all those conflicts of choice.

Hopefully the games add the Battle Clubs, so that there's a structure to work from in the future. I think the direct sequel idea also makes having a battle frontier or similar as the filler arc before the 6th generation seem more unlikely.

But it would be a major change for the anime to stick to the new plot without giving Ash a Gym-like path, and they can't have him collect the Unova badges again even if that is the case in the new games.

I'm so excited right now. I'm freaking out thinking about things they could do with N!!! More N. More N. More N. More N~~~!!! I NEED more N!! (Did I mention that I need more N?:awww:)

Oh, and I really feel like Team Plasma and N will appear in the anime. I just KNOW it. Or that's what I'm forcing myself to believe.
