I'm surprised I couldn't find a thread on this.

Anyway, I thought Gamefreak did a really awesome job with the music in the gen 5 Pokemon games! I liked how talking to some of the NPCs added different instruments to some of the soundtracks. That's so cool!

Also, I only recently noticed that moving your character also adds an instrument to the soundtrack (though only on routes, I think).

This being said, my favorite music in the games has to be that of the Village Bridge. It's so awesome, especially when you talk to the one guy to add his singing to it.

I agree with all those points, but would like to also note the awesomeness of the Victory Road music. The way another instrument is added to the music after you pass through each badge-check gate? Too cool.

I was quite impressed by the work they put in the soundtrack as well. The nice little touch that allows you to add in-game musicians to the ambiant melody is so neat.

My preferred one would be White Opelucid City, so soothing and elegant... I was actually surprised to discover there was such a difference between version-specific locations, the mood is radically different in Black Opelucid and Black City. Strangely constrasting with the version mascots now that I think of it.

But the greatest point for me is the quality of the battle themes.
Previous generations' Gym Leaders hadn't left me with imperishable memories (hey, technically speaking Cynthia isn't a GL), so I was all the more "HOLY S***" when I challenged the first one. And when I thought "man, now that was an awesome battle track worthy of a Gym Leader", he sent out his last Pokémon. Cue Epic Showdown of Ultimate Destiny.
And that was the first Gym. It takes a whole new dimension against an actually tough Leader such as Elesa (YMMV) or a dangerous mon such as Haxorus.
I'm having a hard time trying to decide which battle theme is my favourite. I guess the Elite 4 one would be close behind the Battle Subway. That moment in the subway is engraved in my mind : at roughly 1:02 my Hydreigon releases a fierce Draco Meteor, death comes raining from above and the opponent's HP bar depletes from 100 to 0 on a soaring tempo that I will forever associate with "explosive demonstration of raw power". Also works wonder with Terrakion's Close Combat or Haxorus' Outrage.

This. Yes.

I also love the ending credits music, partly because it always makes me remember the end of the game which gets me kinda choked up ;~;

All the overworld themes are very good, (I especially like Castelia City, Accumula Town and Cold Storage) but overall, I prefer the ones from Sinnoh; they gave locations, such as Snowpoint City, a truly incredible atmosphere, and few tracks from Unova's outside can compare.

Despite that, the battle themes are just as good as before, perhaps better, and I can't stop listening to them. There's the happy Bianca/Cheren battle theme, the menacing final boss music as that damn dragon ripped apart most of my team and made everything feel much worse, all the epic legendary battle themes, the Elite Four theme, and of course, the Gym Leader's last Pokemon music. Ah, they're all so good. No way can I pick a favourite out of such a selection.

I know I am not the only one who thought Chrono Trigger at the Tower of Heaven.

But yeah, the games have the best soundtrack. It has a more "epic RPG"-type feel to it. Though I'll say the trainer battle theme is quite of "meh", I preffered DPPt's.

Same here. I seem to always prefer the more soothing songs in video games.

I loved the Elite Four, Black Opelucid City, Undella Town, Rustling Grass Battle, and N's themes.

I think my favorite track from the games was the one that plays when you battle the normal legendaries, like Verizion. I cranked up the volume so loud when I caught the Musketeer Trio!

But I can't hear Ghetsis's song without hearing "One Winged Angel" in my head...

What I love best is that each city/town has a very distinctive theme. This is the first pokemon game I've ha where I can almost instantly know what music will play before entering any city. (I know accumula, striaton, Nacrene, castelia, nimbasa, driftveil, mistralton, opelucid, and undella and that's just off of the top of my head!)

Also, did anyone else feel that the later routes (from after opelucid to white forest/ black city) had a very noticeable 'Sinnoh' sound to thierry music? Or is it just me?

Now that you say it, I too can feel Sinnoh in those routes.

And I forgot to mention the deep woods/sanctuary track. Just the kind of music I love : it superbly captures the mystic essence of a place. It fits especially well the fields surrounding Landorus' altar.

The legendary battle music has to be my favourite music out of the whole game, but I also thought N's music and Ghetsis's theme music was just epic. To be honest I pretty much like most of the soundtrack in Black and White.

I also agree the Village Bridge music is very interesting and quite calming as well. I actually find myself visiting that village quite a lot for the soundtrack XD

Oh wow, lots of replies. ^^

I've got something else to say about the music now though. You all know the song that plays when Bianca's dad shows up in Nimbasa City and Elesa intervenes, right? I just noticed how awesome this track is. It's so beautiful!

Ghetsis' battle theme is just terrible. I hate it.

But everything else is awesome. My favorites are N's theme and final battle theme (duhhhh what else) and the Abyssal Ruins theme.

I love all the encounter themes from this game, Encounter! N, Encounter! Ghetsis and Encounter! Champion getting special mentions. I like both of N's battle themes, and I absolutely LOVE the ending credits theme. It's so bombastic.
The music of this game was a general hit or miss for me~

I thought Ghetsis' battle music was pretty good, though Team Plasma's battle music is my favorite

I really think Village Bridge is the best overall for me. Being able to add the singing/beatboxing, guitar and flute was a neat extra feature.
