Pokemon can be gay....

Don't forget Harley, Nozomi, Suzuna...

That was an effect of a machine of a mad scientist, which made Water-types attacted with Electric-types and vice versa.

Same-sex attraction, or same-sex behaviour has be documented in close to 1500 species on our planet, including humans. It is only logical then to assume that that same trait would be present in Pokemon as well. Those who doubt this though will most likely rattle off unsupported claims that sexual orientation is a choice.

If you wish another example of Pokemon displaying same-sex attraction, in the episode "A Bitter Pill to Swallow" Team Rocket steals a purple Shuckle and drinks its undiluted juice which, as a consequence, causes Meowth to display some very overt affection for James. Old Man Shuckle later explains that the undiluted juice from a purple Shuckle when drunk by a human would cause that human to emit a strong pheromone which would attract any nearby Pokémon for three days. But the key here, I think, is that Meowth was attracted to James... NOT Jessie.

So the point of this thread is...?

Perhaps that same-sex attraction exists in Pokemon, much the same as it does in almost 1500 species on this planet, a fact which the writers of these episodes have obviously touched on.

Except - as we've all been over many times before - that the "attraction" present in that episode is non-existent.

I guess that depends on whether or not ALL of us were involved in that previous discussion. I know I haven't. That being said however, with regards to the apparent attraction seemingly displayed by Piplup and Pikachu in that episode, I'd just point out that while an individual's feelings can be brought to the surface, they cannot be artificially created. In order for an individual to express an emotion of any sort, that emotion first has to to exist within that individual, whether he or she is consciously aware of it or not.

Things that apply in real life may not apply in a completely fictional world.
Anything is possible.

Of course, it's also entirely possible that this is just a simple kid's show and that the writers thought the audience would get a laugh out of images of Pikachu and Potchama acting all lovey-dovey with each other.

It's can be both, too...

Every writer, regardless of the audience, will introduce to a project a message they wish to convey. Just because some may not see the message doesn't invalidate its existence... and I speak as an author myself.

It's easy to tell whether a Pokemon is gay.

Since Pokemon don't have genetalia, their gender is determined by other means. Proffesor Oak offers each Pokemon a choice out of three balloons. A blue one, a pink one and a purple one.

If the Pokemon picks the blue balloon, it's a male.
If the Pokemon picks the pink balloon, it's a female.
If the Pokemon picks the purple balloon, it's gay... or colorblind...

they must have genetalia or else they couldnt reproduce

That actually goes against the move attract which the Machine was based on (the scientist just negated the gender rule of Attract). And I don't see how a Pokemon has emotions for another Pokemon when they've never seen each other except during a battle, where infatuation because apart of it, whether its attract, Cute Charm or some other method of infatuation.

Exactly. This is an anime, nothing has to make sense. Same thing applies to the game.

The animators and game developers have full control over everything that happens, unlike the real world.

What's impossible in real life can be possible in the anime and the games.

Bah, this is old news. Why, I remember when I was but a teen. 'Pokemon is gay!' my peers would claim. Hell, few tended to argue otherwise.
