I noticed that alot of sources say that Pokemon Chronicles was NEVER available in the US on DVD. But about two years ago, I swear I had seen a couple DVD's in Hastings. I remember that I was thinking about getting them while in the checkout line, but I didn't have enough money...:sweatlol: On top of that, they also used to be available on the Hastings, Best Buy, and Walmart websites from what I can remember.

Even though I had seen them for myself, why are a lot of sources saying that those DVD's have never been sold in the US?

Because they haven't.

What you saw in Hastings were either a) foreign imports (most likely from the UK) or b) bootlegs.

For whatever reason, TPCI / Viz never got around to releasing Chronicles episodes on DVD in the U.S.

Even with the hackdub, it stills kinda disappointing these were never released for sale in the U.S.

Long forgotten characters like Misty and Tracey get good screentime in this, (Tracey is in like 7 specials!), and TR and Brock get their due as well. Butch/Cassidy were fun even though they become bumbling comic relief in this.

Shame, really. Back then it honestly felt like the writers wanted to keep older characters alive in the series via these specials, yet when DP started they decided not to do the same thing.

What a damn shame that episodes were wasted on Richie and Casey, yet better and more important characters never got their due.

I figure it's because of the huge rage over them here. They probably didn't see the point in releasing something so universally reviled here.

Which was stupid, because those of us in the US ultimately ended up finding... other means... of acquiring them, which was money not in their pockets... *strokes her DVD-R lovingly*

As mentioned above, probably imported from England, as we had the DVD's over here....

Why do you say that especially when I keep seeing comments about how Pokemon Chronicles or side stories should be revived. I personally liked the whole concept of it. A series that did not revolve around Ash and focused on others who either were not in the main series at the time or were booted out of the main cast *points to avatar*. It was something of a good thing during a really really dark time for the main series.

4kids butchered them in the dub.

There was a huge uproar over the Raikou special, where they changed the gender of one of the Rocket villains into a girl.

I bet Hun(Bashou) is still crying in some corner...

We all know the REAL reason for not getting them over here in the US: Tracey's damn headband.

Look at it! It's worse than Ash's hat, which at least comes off once in a while. That headband never budges. It must be holding the secrets of the universe behind it.

The meaning of life is written on his headband.

Debatable. Hun was never referred to as a woman.

Even so, the special was handled poorly in other ways, like a number of scenes cut, changing Eusine's name to Eugene (which doesn't make sense, since Eusine appeared in a Johto episode), and a whole bunch of other crap, as you can read on Dogasu's site.

Dub version was more than horrible.

Oh, and it seems that you've got a new series to bash, Scott, good for you.

And we all know Legend of Thunder was bad. Only good parts of it were Bashou and Buson, and Silver's cameo appearance in it's Japanese opening "A New Oath". And the small fact that a protagonist who isn't the main one manage to save a legend and kick some Rocket ass.

I didn't even know that Hastings (at least the one here) could have imports. And if they were bootlegs, wouldn't they have gotten arrested or something?

Huh... I didn't realize there was alot of hate here for the Legend of Thunder episodes. I liked them alot actually... and I'm not one to throw a hissy fit over sub vs. dub anyways. I'll just refer to Hun as a transvestite.:p

I know I bawwed the most over his genderswap when it came out, but now that I've actually seen a bit of dub!Bashou I can buy him being a very effeminate man. His voice is deep enough.

Debatable. Hun was never referred to as a woman.

That's what I thought too... 'cause even Bulbapedia says that, yet it refers to Hun as a guy.

I'm thinking one of the reasons why they did the gender swap in the dub is because they might have wanted to follow the Rocket-duo formula that consists of a man and woman. That's my theory on it anyways...

And we all know Legend of Thunder was bad.

Not everybody...

As much as I don't particularly like obtaining my entertainmnet in an illegal way, I know what you mean. It also applies to other animation too... if companies don't want people to be downloading their stuff illegally, then why not just put the damn shows/movies on DVD already? That's one of the reasons why they have so much trouble with illegal downloading, because they won't release their stuff on DVD or whatever. But unfortunately, like all other entertainment companies, they really don't seem to care about the fans as much as you'd think.

No we don't, I liked it, its a matter of opinion, some may think its bad as it was the first movie (or feature length episode or episode) to involve a legendary and not have Ash or really any main characters that have appeared in anime before in it and this might be why some may not like it (just guessing)

Hun is male in the Japanese episode of Atilia & Hun

Well would it be illegal to buy a DVD in a different region (say get a region 2 Chronicles DVD), then convert it on computer using a prom to do so and burn that onto a blank DVD so it can now be viewd on your region DVD player, if all your going to do is use the DVD for watching yourself on your DVD player and nothing more?

I did this with a region 1 DVD I got once as there was no region 2 version. I'm not lending it to anyone or selling illegal copies of it or anything, just converted it onto a blank DVD to watch on my DVD player.

I assume that this is the Hastings you were talking about, right?

They seem to sell used DVDs, so it's very likely that someone sold them a DVD from the UK. Foreign DVDs popping up in used DVD stores is not uncommon.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that for me, personally, the dubbing "Pokemon Chronicles" was atrocious. It's "4Kids One Piece on a good day" bad.

The actual episodes themselves varied, but overall, I enjoyed them.

They probably thought it wouldn't be worth the time / money to release the Chronicles DVDs in the U.S., for whatever reason. While you or I could say that we'd buy them if they came out, someone at Viz obviously didn't think there were enough people like us to bother.

Unfortunately, they never sold those episodes on DVD. They're available on rental DVDs, but renting a DVD, taking it home, and then burning it to your hard drive is definitely *not* legal.

Yeah, that's it. There were also other sites of the Walmart, Best Buy, and Barns & Noble stores that had 'em also. But they weren't on there for very long, from what I can remember.

But yeah.... I liked most of Chronicles, but there were a few episodes that I was kinda "meh" about... although it was nice to see Misty, Tracey, and Richie again. But I think the Legend of Thunder episodes were the best out of all the episodes. I'm not too picky about what I watch, anime-wise (although Pokemon is probably the only anime I liked besides DBZ).

EDIT: Not only illegal, but is it also impossible to take an already-made DVD of a movie or TV show and burn it onto another DVD or onto your computer? Reason being is because they put some kind of copyright thing into it...iTunes does the same thing basically, so that you can't burn whatever movies or TV episodes you buy onto a DVD (which sucks... I don't like relying on my computer constantly just to watch Ben 10: Alien Force or somethin'...)

Under the DMCA it's illegal to rip copyrighted DVDs onto your computer, even just for personal use.

It's certainly possible, though, as I've done it a few times. There's freeware all over the place out there for that exact purpose.
