Shota Kageyama, a composer who worked on Pokemon X/Y, Pokemon Black/White, and Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, has left Game Freak. Kageyama also contributed to Luminous Arc and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Kageyama shared the news on Twitter last week in which he wrote:

[Greetings] Happy New Year, everyone. I’m sorry to raise a personal matter, but I left GAME FREAK, who has been good to me these past six years and seven months, on December 31 to start a new music brand called Spica Musica.

Along with gaming, Kageyama will be pursuing other areas of interest. Kageyama said that the staff at Game Freak sent him off with smiles and support, and he’s open to working with the studio again in the future.
Im scared, the music in gen 5 was the best in the series, i hope whoever replaces him won't bring dubstep into the series. dubstep and pokémon is a bad mix imo

I might sound like a jerk, but after XY, I'm slightly glad. I just didn't feel a lot of the pieces,.

I loved the music in XY and I liked HGSS's~ Not too much of a fan of much of BW's. Hopefully Kageyama's successful in his other interests and it's nice GAME FREAK would be happy to have him if he wants to return~

I doubt this means much for Pokemon music though. I don't think one man leaving will mean something like them putting in dubstep...

Black and White had some of the most memorable music to me, so this is a bit of a blow. It is nice to know that GF will keep the doors open for him, so we might see him again in the future.

I liked it. My brother is a musician/sound producer in college and the music from that autumn-like route with the scary house actually resembles one of his songs, so he likes that. Daaa-naaaa-dadaaaaa-naaaa-dadadaaanaaadadaaaaa.

That is a shame, but Game Freak still have other great composers like Go Ichinose, Hitomi Sato and Jun'ichi Masuda.

The music in X&Y was fucking amazing, by the way. It seems that complaining about everything in X&Y is still some people's favorite hobby in this forum.

Quite a big loss if you ask me. HGSS had overall superior remastered tunes compared to FRLG's (Besides Goldenrod's theme, which was sadly ruined), and BW, BW2 and XY have by far several of the best songs in the franchise, and easily edge out as the Top 3 soundtracks overall. I hope whoever comes in to fill Kageyama's shoes makes such a good job as he did. I usually like most of Pokémon's songs overall, but the latest two gens had the very best in my opinion.

Personally I wasn't as fond of XY's track either but it's not because of some sad hobby (and really, aside from a few problems, I haven't seen the complaints go overboard), I just didn't get the same enjoyment out of it.

Having said that, I'm really going to miss him. While XY was mixed for me I still enjoyed some tracks and I greatly enjoyed those in HGSS and BW, that's quite a blow to me to have him leave.

Its not the route music I had a problem with, as much as it was the battle music. There just was no oomph to battling a gym leader like in the last gens, and same thing with the E4. As it is, the route music was indeed superb. I loved the route between Dendimille and Laverre City, as well as the victory road music. But everything else was a flat pile of garbage.
