The German version has the cries for some of the Pokemon. Is there a reason why this isn't implemented on the English version? I saw it briefly in the infobox template but it disappeared.

We tried to implement what they had... twice. It blew up the server almost literally. And Archaic's scary when mad.

What are you talking about? Bulbapedia? Serebii.net? Come on, at least say the website. .\_/.

Ok, I am going to try and say this in the calmest manor possible.... there is a reason.... oh, well, i tried.... there is a reason this is called the BULBAPEDIA General Forum!!

The german bulbapedia has the cries. Go to a pokemon article (ie charmander), and click on the German interwiki link on the side. Ruf is cry in german and if the play button is clicked, the cry is played. I don't know, maybe the German version isn't bulbapedia? Here's the link accessible from the interwiki link. http://www.pokewiki.de/Glumanda If these two wikis share the same server etc. bringing them over to the english version would be easy and wouldn't put any load on the server.

I believe that the only server that we share is with the Japanese PokéWiki. Also, it clearly doesn't work for our server as when we initially tried to implement cries it caused most of the problems the site was having about two weeks ago.

I thought it mostly had to do with some glitch in the code that throws the server into a fit...

There's no reason it can't happen in the future, it's just a lot of server strain. Also a lot of bandwidth.

It really shouldn't be that bad. A mere second or two of audio wouldn't cause too many problems.

To clarify for everything, the issue here is that there appears to be a glitch in the code which causes a lot of server strain. To put this into perspective, simply putting one cry on one page as a test, a sandbox page that we knew only myself and TTE visited to check if it was working, caused the server to crash, and hard. We don't know why it works for Filb and not for us.

The only part of our network that's shared on this server is the Japanese Pokémon Wiki, and I should note that's a hosting arrangement, not us running the joint. All non-English wiki's are run by Bulbagarden partner sites.
