Wow long enough title? Anyway, creepy little Silverish brat! Flint and his honeys! Hareta has the most irresponsible father in the world! More Cynthia! And egg time!

Also, the series now has a TVTropes page if anyone wants to help fill it out.

So, what's Hareta's father English name?

Kaisee? Kaisei? Kaise? Kaiser? Something else?

Kaisei. Although one time they fouled up and called him Keisei.

Also Looker is called Hansom. Charon on the other hand is Charon. And Shinsei Team Galactic is Neo Team Galactic...just as Sato predicted. He also predicted some of the chapter titles. I have a feeling someone at Viz may be consulting Bulbapedia.

Also the art in this volume is AWESOME. I especially like how Ihara drew Earthquake.

In PokeSpe 8, I'm sure we'll meet our new hero Gordo of Wakava Town, who happens to be obsessed with Professor Oak's radio sidekick, DJ Kulumi. >_>

LOL.

Unfortunately I don't have this yet because the comic store near my house didn't get it in... booo. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up downtown tomorrow, though.

Copy-pasting from a similar thread on SPPf is fun!

-Mitsumi vs Cynthia this early on? I have a funny feeling Cynthia's going to win here, and end up battling Hareta in the final round.
-Ahahaha Cynthia had them change the battle chart just to fight Mitsumi this early on.
-Hareta's crazy enough to sit in the front row seats when various attacks are exploding near them. And so is someone else, someone who appears to have stolen Silver's outfit.
-Mitsumi gives up. I called it...well, okay, I didn't think Cynthia would win THAT way, but still.
-Koya wins super fast against Jun. And tells him he's too weak to be training Pokemon.
-Flint appears to have stolen Gary's car & entourage from the anime's original series.
-Disco dancing Flint? ...well okay then.
-Rodeo time on Rapidash? Oh dear.
-"This is no time to be HORSING around." Flint? I'm going to kill you.
-Hareta tries the usual battle tactics...except the tournement rules don't allow multiple Pokemon on the field at a time. Nor do they allow Hareta to fight himself.
-Hareta starts doubting himself...then gets a burst of righteous fury when he thinks about Koya's prickish words from earlier!
-Regigagas pulls through at last, Flint surrenders, blah blah. Fun fact:I had to look up his DP team to make sure that yes, he DID have a Steelix and Drifblim before Plat came out.
-And we get our first glimpse of Hareta's dad in a flashback!
-Hareta vs Koya in the semifinals. This ought to be fun.
-Just when things are looking bad for Hareta, his Luxio evolves into Luxray!
-I spy, with my little eye...Hareta's dad in the stands! And the man LOVES his popcorn.
-"DOOM" is still my favorite manga sound effect.
-Hareta's having trouble against Mamoswine, but I'm sure he has a bizarre plan coming up.
-Feeling where Mamoswine was instead of trying to see it in the hail? That...makes a lot of sense, actually.
-"Hansom"? So they sort-of-kind-of kept Looker's JP name?
-Oh god "Hansom"'s drawing of a TG grunt. Must. Not. Make. That. Into. New. Avatar.
-"I'm your dad!" "You're my dad" "Yup, your dad!" "Dad, it's you!"
-Suicidal TG grunts don't care about getting blown up.
-Hareta gets an egg from his dad before Kaisei has to run off to avoid "Hansom"
-In the special awesome bonus chapter...Cynthia's bored after having Mitsumi quit their battle and having the tournement canceled due to Neo Team Galactic.
-Mitsumi just wants to show off her Pokemon's beauty in contests, and we get a flashback about seeing Milotic evolve and Rowan telling her she could escape TG.
-But Mitsumi can still crush Cynthia in battle...for fun!
-No, we don't get to see the battle.
-Ahahaha, the "you're reading the wrong way!" gag this time is great. "Quiet, son! You'll give away my surprise appearence!"

And to avoid this being completely unoriginal:
I think the "Hansom" bit is baffling, but I hesitate to call that a complete screw-up because that IS a valid romanization of his Japanese name(Hansamu). That's not really an excuse for not calling him Looker(or using the more logical romanization of "Handsome"), but it's still not a gigantic mistake. oh, who am I kidding? That's going to bug me every time I see his name in DPA.

I also have to agree that this volume had great art, although I think DPA has great art in general.

Bought the volume today. Read about 2/3 of it so far, I'm really enjoying it so far and I'm pretty impressed with the low rate of errors (nothing big's jumped out at me yet. I haven't reached "Hansom" yet, though). I don't like Koya much so far, even though he reminds me of Paul, who I do like. :p

On a side note, it bugs me that they keep screwing up the titles of Ihara's other manga! It's Pokemon Emerald Challenge!! Battle Frontier and Dual Jack!!, not Pokemon Emerald Challenge!! and Battle Frontier, Dual Jack!!!! >:[

*facepalm*

From a user comment over on Kotaku:

Kotaku said:
I keep forgetting that the Pokemon one isn't the Pokémon Adventures a.k.a. Pocket Monsters Special one from Japan. It seems this one is like a spinoff designed for kids starting to read or something.

Geez. Simple language doesn't make for an easy reader book. Sure all the words are understood, but no learn-to-read book would have dialogue like this:

volume 6 said:
Grunt: This is a super-high-powered bomb! It's a hundred times more powerful! Push it up into the air, and the whole town will catch fire! It's the end for all of you!
Mitsumi: What are you talking about? If it's that destructive, you're all in danger too!
Grunt: We know! But we don't care! ALL that matters is that we carry out Charon's orders!

As I said, simple language doesn't equal basic readership.

Found a few grammar errors and Kaisei's mouthful-of-popcorn translation was wrong at one part (faffle=fight?)but other than that it was pretty good.

...Ah, I'm so late.

I agree - best art to date. Name changes are fun - they keep "Charon" true to the English translation (eh, I'm pleased. I've grown fond of it now, a year later...), but now every time I see "Hansom", I think "HANSON"... Inconsistency much? D8

And Koya... heh, I think he's the manga love-child of Silver and Paul. Trufax. At least I might start liking him and Hareta's spats or shipping them....

Somehow, I feel disappointed by the Cynthia v. Mitsumi battles... just go all out already, plz. No, I don't ship it...oh wait... YES I DO. And Kaisei... heh, there's something about him that just makes me laugh. At least we now know where Hareta gets his personality from, yes?

Still, great volume - can't wait to see how Viz handles the rest of the series!

So this volume is the obligatory tournament arc. And the artwork is really dramatic - when I turned the page to the start of the first battle my eyes popped out a little. Koya and Hareta in the hail looks really nice too. It's great to see the quality continue past last volume's climax.

It was interesting to see the rules in place, considering that what I've seen from the various manga series tend to differ more from what I'm used to in the anime or games. But did no one try to explain them to Hareta beforehand? (Ok, they probably did and he wasn't listening.) Hareta still cheats when he jumps up in front of Luxio.

Flint and Miror B. would make a good team. And of course Hareta follows his beat. :yahoo:

On the ignorance of the Kotaku poster, I blame Viz for creating the Viz Kids line in the first place. I'm gussing the poster has only heard of the Viz Kids run of Dragon Ball, which actually is a chapter book series for young children. Of course, the current run of Adventures is also under the same line...

Oh man they would be. Provided they stopped dancing long enough to get any battling done. And then Volkner would be GLAD that he doesn't get any screen time because he'd be ashamed to be in the same series as them.

I kinda wanted to sign up for Kotaku just to ask that user for examples, but it wasn't worth it.

So this is already out? That's strange, I thought the site I used to read this was up-to-date and we're still on DP. Are you guys reading it in Japan?

Nope. The series ended last fall in Japan. Although I'm not sure of the release dates in the UK. I just know North America and Australia gets it with the dates indicated by these threads. In English, there's two more volumes to go, to be released by Viz in July and November.

How come you know what's happened then, or are you just going by synopses?
