Considering the fact that most Pokemon are both sentient and extremely powerful, able to think and communicate, while also having a variety of extremely powerful abilities, why are Pokemon under the control of humans? They could probably wipe out the entire human species, or at the very least humans would never have evolved the same way as they did.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Pokemon seem to be utterly indestructible, being hit by huge explosions and recovering rapidly.

Perhaps it has something to do with how they are mentally wired. Or perhaps it's just a mystery they don't want to have to explain, because it makes the games work.

Just because they're sentient doesn't mean they're sapient. Pokémon, for the most part, appear to be at least somewhat feral. Those with the necessary sapience to do such a thing either lack the power or the initiative to actually go through with it.

If you disagree with that statement, though, I'd say that Pokémon were created to co-exist with humans (hence their ability to be stored in Balls), and aside from a few more violent cases, they are content to live side-by-side. And when there are occasional Pokémon that attack humans, other Pokémon step in to protect them.

It may have something to so concurrently with how Teams are so widespread in that world among humans. Perhaps the shared mindset is that individual power can be maximized in an alliance rather than trying to attain it by onesself, and it would be fascinating to find how such a thing came to be in the minds of both.

I think that there was a time long past when Pokemon and humans were at odds with one another. These were dark and frightening times. These were times when people and Pokemon did not work side by side, but attacked and harmed one another.

And then a pact was made between humans and Pokemon. This pact lead both humans and Pokemon to agree to work side-by-side. From that day forward, Pokemon and people were partners instead of enemies. And since so much time has passed since that pact, we now have what we see in the games/anime today.

If you don't like that explanation, there's always that Pokemon are still feral. Pokemon still make their homes in the wild, just like species of animals do in our worlds. These Pokemon have been domesticated in much the same way that pets of our world have been. Granted, Pokemon are much more powerful and sentient than a lot of the creatures in our world, but the concept is still there. Plus, it's just sort of human nature to want to take over everything. I can't imagine why Pokemon would be any different.

I just personally think that when everything started, Pokemon were kinda evil, like we see in the start of Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the Pokemon/human war was raging on. For the argument of there were humans with Pokemon, you have to remember there are a lot of times, when Pokemon were influenced by humans. But as time went on Pokemon became more docile, and became friends with humans, I mean a perfectly good case of this is with Ash and Pikachu.

Yeah you say a lot of big words that I can't understand but dude it's just a game company that has an anime and has their own trading cards besides if they did exist they would be almost indestructable depending on their types such as Fire, Water, and Grass and evolution might be painful and they might blow out the human race on t heir trainer's command but they are mostly used for battleing against other pokemon no more and no less

"Dude."

We're having a mature discussion about Pokemon in the idea that it is an established world all its own. Fiction or non, this sort of speculation is what drives websites and forums like this.

If you can't understand some of the words, look them up. There are tons of dictionaries online.

On that note, Pokemon are not indestructible. At least, not most Pokemon. (The Legendaries are a completely different ballgame.) Pokemon in the anime and game aren't destroyed because when they faint, a trainer recalls them to their Pokeball, which seems to keep them stable until the Trainer can get them to a Pokemon Center. In the wild, if a Pokemon were to get hit by a flamethrower, they'd stand a good chance of getting an infection and dying.

I agree with Kalyia, most Pokemon aren't indestructible, I mean look at Firered/Leafgreen, the Gary figure is mourning his Raticate at the Lost Tower, I think, so that show most Pokemon aren't indestructible. I mean in practicly every single game there has been a Lost Tower, a burial site for Pokemon.

Well, trained Pokémon are different to wild ones.

We're warned at the start of every game "not to go into the long grass", because we'll be attacked by Pokémon. Also, remember the Spearow in the anime, that Ash threw a rock at?

There are Pokémon that try to harm humans.

The difference between wild and trained Pokemon is a closely related to the difference between domesticated and feral animals. Granted, Pokemon are a lot more sentient and powerful than animals in our world, but still.

pokeballs force them to obey trainers and before they were invented people and pokemon attacked each other.

Considering how there are such a thing as disobedient Pokemon, and the fact that many people have befriended wild Pokemon, I doubt it.

And..
A game in which you were a human which was being forced to obey a Tyranitar overlord would be no fun at all ;_;

What makes you think they were evil, just because they were at war with humans? Maybe humans were the evil ones?

[Godwin's law]The Allies were at war with humans, after all.[/Godwin's law]

Plus, weren't there humans and Pokémon in both armies?

Alakazam has an iq of over 5000.
I am always surprised it hasn't taken over.

There was recently a discussion about this in this same board. Thus, I'm just going to repeat what was said there.

Alakazam cannot possibly have an IQ of over 5000. The IQ scale does not go that high. What they were trying to get across was that Alakazam is an extremely intelligent Pokemon.

Subconscious need to belong with another species? Curiosity? Nature? Or are they simply happy to stand by as we destroy each other? Sit and watch as we launch judgement day? Hiding underground until the end of the fallout? Then, rising out from under the ashes to begin anew world order?

...
...
...No. Probably due to mutual interest.

mt. pyre and pokemon tower both have pokemon graves. So they're not that indistructable.
