Pokémon Fan magazine to hit Japan: Inaugural issue to debut Tuesday

Shogakukan will release the first issue of Pokémon Fan magazine in Japan Tuesday. The magazine appears to be different from the publication of the same name made by Pokémon USA. The Japanese magazine will cover the Pokémon anime, Mystery Dungeon 2, Pokémon Battrio and other topics.

Hmm. How strange that they decide to introduce such a thing after so long...

Would be cool if this mag brings us upcoming episode info faster than we get it otherwise.

I guess that prior to Diamond and Pearl's kick up the arse to the franchise, the content was more than covered by CoroCoro and that other Wonderland (is that what it's called? I forget >_>) magazines.

I'm sure it'll probably fare better than all the Pokemon magazines here. Considering they've all died a rather gruesome death bar one.

Yeah, come to think of it, there's already a dedicated magazine - Pokémon Wonderland - even if it has an irregular publishing schedule.

This should have been done when Pokemon was at its peak! or is it still very popular in Japan now?

Yeah. I was quite fond of how the Pokémon Official Magazine did things. Was a shame how it died before the 3rd issue came out

Given the name, do we know if any of our friends in the online Japanese fan community are involved in the production of this magazine?

I'd assume they didn't use the Wonderland name simply because it's already established itself as something of a (sort of) bi-annual publication, while they want to be clear this will be more regular.

I wonder if we will get a similar magazine. Unless we already have one (I haven't really looked to be honest).

There have been "Pokémon Fan Book" magazines in the past. But this one appears to be similar to Pokémon Wonderland. At least the logo's style. I wonder if it will replace Wonderland.

Anyway, I don't understand why Argy compares this with the American magazine, which has totally nothing to do with it (or in common with it) besides having the same name. The Japanese equivalent to the American Pokémon Fan is Pokémon Scoop.

Well, I wrote that the two magazines are unrelated despite having the same name. I could see how people could be confused.

Ah, I hope we get a good source for Anime Episode Summaries like Scott said, since those things seem to have no pattern.

Hope someone can get scans.

One problem is finding writers. There simply aren't a lot of good, experienced journalists in the video game/TCG industry.

Anyone know how big this magazine is supposed to be? I know that the US Pokemon Fan is usally only about 20-30 pages.

Good experienced journalists in the video game industry? Japan has them relatively in spades. TCG...not sure, to be honest.

In any case, this seems to be a fairly substantial magazine, suitable for sale in convenience stores, bookstores, etc. I'm guessing that it'll be at least 48 pages, more likely 96 to 192.

Well, there have been some Japanese Pokémon Card magazines in the past.
