One of the recently revealed features of the upcoming Nintendo Wii U console is the "NFC Reader/Writer" that is on the GamePad, just below the D-Pad. For those who don't know, NFC is basically the technology used by the Portal of Power and figures in the Skylanders game that allows players to place a real life figure of a character on the portal and for said character to appear in the game.

Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America has revealed that he has already been receiving letters from a large number of Pokémon fans asking for the NFC technology to be used in a future Pokémon game. Would you like to see this technology used in a future Pokémon Wii U game?

I was about to say no, but then I remembered that I'm not buying the Wii U anyways. Honestly, I wouldn't care, but I'm skeptical to the thought of bought extras in pokémon games. Could influence the main series games, and I don't want that.

But people are sending letters asking for something that potentially ends up spending more money on the game? Are people that stupid?

I dunno, Skylanders was bashed by the internet community for being a cash-in of Spyro's name, and there are still well-respected veteran users here who don't appreciate the unexpected change going around in Gen V nor do they want to buy the Wii U. I wonder if this means figures of legendary Pokemon will be sold out in stores.

Yeah, I would. PokePark U... I can see it now. Different Pokemon figures you can play as in the game, each with own skill... it's so original. :p

No way. It does sounds like rather neat idea on paper, but ultimately, it's just another form of DLC, only you can't easily obtain it from online services.

So fans now want to pay for what we're getting for free as Wifi events? Brilliant.

There are many things the WiiU can add to the franchise. In particular, its concept of "alone-together" fits well with Pokemon's online community and no doubt would allow for more players to be connected by utilizing the WiiU's superior online than a friend code-based portable system. By utilizing two WiiU GamePads, they could even create a WiiU RPG with multi-player.

Yet, people are going about "Hey, Nintendo! Charge us $10/Pokemon!" Brilliant. So much potential for a Pokemon RPG on the WiiU and this is what fans are swarming Nintendo about.

Now, DLC doesn't necessarily need to be a bad thing, but don't charge us money per Pokemon that we all know can fit on a WiiU disc in the first place.

If there's anything Nintendo console games need right now, it's more peripherals and gimmicks.

Sure, it could be a way to get some of the harder to obtain Pokemon... but I can't see why anyone would get excited over having to shell out more money for content that's already in the game or available via Wi-Fi.

The only thing I'd want is a way to play ds/3ds games on the wii u. I loved playing the fb and gba games on tv.

I'm pretty sure there's a difference between DLC and figures from stores.

3DS games would be tricky because then they'll use the 3D gimmick when playing the game on the Wii U.

would it be possible for a future series of the Pokemon TCG to come with one thing for it to read for a Pokemon game (like a sequel to the GB Pokemon card game on the Wii U), like each pack you buy comes with a special card that has the scanner on it?

I don't know how the thing works, so I don't know if this is even possible :/

Regardless of what some people on the internet thought, Skylanders has sold incredibly well. Hell, shortages of the figures are still being reported.

Wow. Just when I thought that people couldn't get any stupider, this happens.

Man, I don't mean any offense to anyone who wants this, but dear Lord, think of how expensive it will undoubtedly be!! I already don't play skylanders because its just too incredibly expensive to buy them all. With a game like pokemon, with over 600 playable characters, no one on earth could afford that!

I can see this happening regardless of whether people write in. Mostly because I think Nintendo wants to show off the WiiU's capabilities themselves; I'd be surprised if they let a third-party developer lead the way on their new system.

Pokemon probably seems like the perfect fit to them. A big, popular franchise based at least partially on collecting hundreds of things. I just hope they don't expect us to buy those hundreds of things to enjoy a game.
