Whilst the pokemon anime is a show mostly for children, it wouldn't hurt the writers to bring up the maturity level a little bit. I mean, Why is pokemon death such a taboo in the series? why cant they elaborate more on that topic, even if just fleetingly, to give a little more backdrop to the whole pokemon thing? if there are no animals in the pokemon world, and the characters are seen eating fish and meat daily, wouldn't it mean that they're eating pokemon? Come on! thats been troubling me for ages! Perhaps there can be a spin off series following the much darker pokemon manga? whats your take on the current state of pokemon?

...

No. Please no. The entire franchise is aimed at kids. Let's not start upping the maturity level to appeal to a vastly smaller target audience.

While there are many things wrong with the anime we have now, I do not think that it being aimed at kids is one of them. When I pop in my Pokemon DVD I watch it for the innocence of the show, not for intense story telling.

Teen angst, everybody sleeping with eachother and rabid shippers? Manly Pokémon? Do not want.

qft, I wouldn't mind abit more maturity but I like it how it is, and it is a kids show in the end and it works for them.

lol, i obviously dont mean that! i speak strictly in terms of the pokemon. A complete overhaul of the anime would be devastating, but just some slight additions or modifications wouldn't hurt either.

If they did tackle Pokemon death I think it would make for some really touching viewing, and it's not like kids aren't exposed to it. It might help them deal with pet death? (O.K maybe not)but Pokemon are seen to age in the anime (unlike the humans)so it's only natural that they would die.

I'm almost 17 (10 days) and I like it how it is.

We all like it how it Is. Just a side thought which would be cool with me. Happy Birthday! 10 days in advance.....

lol, double trouble reminded me of something that i've always hated, i.e. the characters referring to rice balls as donuts...

I've been confused about that for so long. I always thought they were rice balls but they keep getting referred to as donuts so i assumed they must be. I suppose it's a cultural thing they had to change.

Please stay on-topic.

Also, there wouldn't be any reason for the producers of the franchise to skew the series to an older audience. They've been able to make billions of dollars by targeting kids for over a decade, and there's absolutely zero proof that aiming for an older audience now would increase their profits in any significant way.

Except that now much of the original audience has matured and many are still watching. :)

Everyone just wait until I get to make my live-action Pokemon movie. :D

I'll never understand why some people seem to like so much the idea of a more "mature" show... it makes no sense to me
So having death and blood magically makes everything better? Why is these things even considered "mature"?
My definition of mature would be things that young kids might not understand or only partly understand - which to me means things like the Ash/Paul rivalry... I doubt 7 year olds think too much about how Ash and Paul are complete opposite, about how Ash used to easily get annoyed by him while now he doesn't care what Paul says, that Ash is doing his best to prove what he believes in... or things like Dawn's depression which really proved how overconfident she was and how mcuh pressure she had as being the daughter of a Top Coordinator
I think things like that are much more "mature" than random blood and death
While young kids can understand these things, I think we the older fans "analyze" it a little more and better understand the importance and meaning behind it...
What is so "mature" in death? how can characters dying all of a sudden make the show better in any way?

I like the show the way it is
I liked it 10 years ago... and I still like it today
Which means they better not make any drastic changes since I like it exactly the way it is now
Though I'm also open to ideas and won't oppose to such a change, but I seriously can't see a reason to do it

I'm turning 18 next month, and I still love this show for what it is. It has an innocent and magic feel to it (well, I get that mainly with the older episodes, but that's besides the point). Basically what I'm trying to say is, I wouldn't want Pokemon any other way. I don't want it to be more mature. It's great the way it is. Why mess with a good thing?

People forget just how small in proportion we are compared to the kids that like pokemon. Do not cite forum polls to me, they are nothing in comparison to the actual fandom. (Don't argue with me, they're not) I don't mind the anime as it is, but pokemon is capable of being more serious. Most of it has had to do with Hunter J in the main anime. Paul is also a source of intense plots. Some people even say TG livens things up, but I don't know what to say about that personally. If you were expecting anything else, then I have to say you came to the wrong place.

I think that, as a whole, the people within fandom are fine with it how it is. Those that howl about the anime needing to be more 'mature' are the same people who think that anime in generally needs 'realism' - and by that, they mean lots of blood and guts and gore and DEATH. Because 'realism' in a series that is completely non-realistic is definitely going to make it better rather than just dilute it down.

I like the way it is. The only change I would really want is more shipping stuff.

Sceptile, I see where you're coming from, and tell me if I misunderstood your reply, but the thing is, the younger portion of the fanbase probably won't be online.

And also, a more mature Pokemon would be a bit of a risk. Younger people wouldn't be attracted to it, and people who are older and don't already like it probably wouldn't be interested for other reasons, like how by many people it's considered kiddish and that reputation wouldn't fade over night.

Oopsie, would have quoted the first thing I was replying to.

My point was that most little kids aren't online, and others aren't even aware of fansites like this. Even if they did, you need parental consent to be here if you're under 13. That is why I said the forum polls are inaccurate.
