The first Pokémon Game Show, which will be an exhibition-show style event, will be available to the public for free and is being held at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center. The event will be held on Aug. 17 and 18, 2013.
This exhibition show will be the first event to feature demos of Pokémon X and Y. The event is open to the public and free admission on a first come first serve basis.
The show will also have areas set up for players wanting to play the trading card game as well as Pokémon Tretta, an arcade-style game using special tiles called Trettas.

It's times like these I really wish I lived in Japan. Hopefully we can get some good feedback from the demos.

I loved the BW demos! They were perfectly executed, not revealing too much while still revealing just enough to get us excited. If I remember correctly, it took place in Icirrus City, with Bianca and Cheren using starters, Professor Juniper being there, and the only Pokemon in the tall grass being either Munna or Zorua- I can't remember.
I'm hoping that the Japan demos are like that, and someone decides to record them.

To be honest, I'd love it if they made the demos downloadable via the eShop internationally.

There is no excuse not to just that. The days when Japan got exclusive access to game information should be long over.

Yeah, considering that this is supposed to be one big international thing this time around I can't see them not putting the demo up for international users.

Unless they're going to do what they did with B/W and hold out for a mall tour which would be stupid since the eShop is a thing. I mean the eShop would also make it more accessible for people who don't have the money to hop in their cars/a bus and go to the mall, the people who don't want to hang out around whiny kids all day, and the people that are nowhere near the participating mall.

I wouldn't be surprised if instead, The Pokémon Company have some kind of event distribution over the summer where they will give out a Pokémon (probably the movie Mewtwo if it unlocks anything in XY, saving Genesect for when the movie actually comes out) and naturally, playable demos will be there.

I remember going to the BW tour in Strongsville, OH way back in 2011. that was a fun time. they should do something like that again for XY back in the USA and NE ohio

This sounds pretty cool. I remember how we learned about a couple of new Pokemon through the B/W demos too, so I could see that happening for these demos as well. I'd love it if they were available for international players. It would be really great to get a sneak peak at the game.

Pokémon Tretta using Quinty-like tiles? Hell. They are called "Trettas", but it's different from the tiles used in Quinty, the first Game Freak game (before Pokémon) .

If anyone on this site is able to play these demos in Japan, we would like to hear about it. Also, I hope international players are able to try out these games first-hand; we would feel quite left out if only Japan gets to play Pokemon X and Y for the first time.

Yeah, hopefully you'll be able to download a demo from the 3DS eShop.

This. I really want this. If I could I would go to Japan myself but since I can't I would appreciate it if this happened. Wouldn't they send and alert they were planning on doing this already?

They might release an eshop demo once the various places featuring the physical demos are done milking the attention for profit. But since I don't have a 3DS yet, I'll just hope they decide to have demos as Gamestops in the US and that the one at my mall has one.

By the way what time does the show start? It's actually already the 17th in Japan, so...
