On the main Pokémon website: PGL

Record Your Milestones!

By using Game Sync with the Pokémon Global Link, records of your adventure so far will be displayed in a timeline. Adjust your privacy settings to decide whether to show your timeline to others, or even share your progress on social networking sites!

If other Trainers choose to make their information public, you'll be able to check out what they've done. See how far other Trainers from around the world have gotten—you may even be able to help each other out with hints and advice!

Although hinted at as an in-game feature, it seems that you can see a timeline of what you do online on a website as well and share it with others. Looks to be one of the new features of the Pokémon Global Link.

What other features is everyone hoping for in the new Pokémon Global Link? I never really used it before, but looks like it can be interesting.

I want there to be a way to play on the Global Link on the 3DS. There's pretty much no way that site's gonna load right on the browser, but a downloadable app would be nice, even if there's some features that're browser-only.

The New Pokemon Global Link

It seems as though the revamped Pokemon Global Link got a bit of a hush hush information update on the Pokemon X and Y website.

More on the New Pokémon Global Link!
The Pokémon Global Link (PGL) is a website that connects to your Pokémon X or Pokémon Y game. The things you can see and do on the website will change based on your progress within your game! And your activity on the PGL may also be reflected in your Pokémon X or Pokémon Y game and give you some special advantages.

In preparation for the redesign, the current Pokémon Global Link will undergo maintenance beginning on Tuesday, October 1st, 2013, at 3:00 a.m. ET.

The advance opening of the new Pokémon Global Link will be Saturday, October 12th. At this time, you'll be able to register your game by entering its Game Sync ID code. The new Pokémon Global Link will launch in full later in October. We will continue to release more detailed information as it becomes available on the Pokémon Global Link site.

Remember, in order to use the PGL, you will need a Pokémon Trainer Club user name and password.

View the PGL on the Go!
The new Pokémon Global Link can be viewed from smartphones as well as from computers. See the first screens of the mobile-optimized version of the PGL. Now that it is designed for smartphone use, the PGL is easier than ever to explore.

Rating Battles
Play in Rating Battles via the PSS and see your results on the Pokémon Global Link! You'll be able to view your own rating, as well as your world ranking for each of the many battle formats available.

In Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, there will be five battle formats for Rating Battles: Single Battle, Double Battle, Triple Battle, Rotation Battle, and the new Special Battle. Rules for Special Battles will change every three months. During the first season, the Special Battle format will be Single Battle, restricted to the Pokémon that were first introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. The first season is scheduled to begin in late December of this year.

Rating Battle Etiquette
After receiving many requests from players who enjoyed battling online with Pokémon Black Version, Pokémon White Version, Pokémon Black Version 2, and Pokémon White Version 2, we have responded by ruling that any Trainer who disconnects from the server in the middle of battle, regardless of reason or circumstance, will have the battle recorded as a loss, and accordingly experience a drop in rating. When you are battling online, please be sure that you have a reliable Internet connection, and play fairly and with consideration for your fellow Trainers!

Honestly, I think it is nice to see that Game Sync has only progressed as far as updating your milestones (as we already knew you could do) and registering your game with Global Link. A higher reliance on PSS, meaning less time spent needing to sync the game and more real time information, is the best way to go. Making the website smartphone friendly (which I suppose means it is 3DS friendly too) is a great move, too.

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

The new interface looks cool, and I'm glad they made ditching a match a loss (I HATE when I'm about to win and someone cuts out! Sore losers...) But I have to say, that i haven't heard anything about whether Dream World is returning...and that makes me nervous. O_O I love Dream World! I don't want it to go away!

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

I'm hoping that a newer HTML5 version of the Dream World shows up (making it compatible with mobile devices). If such a thing was in development, it could be why it hasn't been revealed yet.

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

I find it curious that they've said nothing about the Dream World yet, but they might wait until the game is out first. I hope we don't need to use it as much as we did in 5th gen (please don't restrict berry planting to the DW this time, Game Freak), I got sick of that place real fast.

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

Honestly I could do without the dream world entirely, and have them just add in rare/obscure/challenging ways to get all dream world pokemon in the game itself. It was a nice experiment, but did far too little for what it was.

+1 for just letting us plant berries in the game again too, it's such a convoluted pain in the butt to deal with them in the DW.

(I do wish they would find a more balanced way to implement things. One thing that has gotten really tiresome for me that gamefreak does is constantly add/remove features and then add them again later, it's making me a little crazy.. and I feel a little sad to lose all my dw plushies...even though they're literally just strewn about the house at random).

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

I also hope you can specify what ability and/or nature you want in Global Trade now, and get rid of the thing where you can't trade for pokemon you haven't seen except in that specific type of trading. Global trade is great, especially if you don't know anyone near you who plays pokemon, well enough to ask for trades. I just wish i could be a little more specific about abilities, especially.

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

This is about the new information that was revealed pretty recently. Plus, that thread was made at back in August and this still has more responses.

Back on topic:

I'd like to see the Global Link have more methods of communication. The mailbox was really lacking, poorly organised, and eventually everyone just up and forgot about it.

The GTS needs several improvements before it becomes useful. The main things they need to do IMO is make it so you can view a Pokemon's Summary screen before trading (to detect hacks and garner more details on the offered Pokemon) and put a restriction on impossible offers (i.e. no Lv. 9 and under Reshiram/Zekrom).

It's already confirmed that if you can spell out the Pokemon's name, you can search it.

Put a restriction on impossible offers (i.e. no Lv. 9 and under Reshiram/Zekrom).

People use that to clone things, for the record. They probably will get rid of it if for no other reason than to eliminate that cloning method.

If I'm remembering this from Bulbapedia correctly, that cloning method was removed in Gen V.

You remember incorrectly. This one was actually made possible in Gen V. The pokemon gets duplicated automatically when you put it up on Global Link so that if there's a bad connection or something you don't lose your pokemon, and then it's removed from your system once it goes through. if you interrupt the connection (by, say, turning off your game at the right moment) you wind up with one on the global link and one in your storage, and the impossible asked-for pokemon is so no one trades for your pokemon before you can take it back from global link.

I never actually saw that one on Bulbapedia, but knew about the GTS cloning glitch, which I thought you were referring to.

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

I believe there are even apps on the Android and IOS app store that take advantage of that GTS glitch. Honestly, it sucks, and I'm happy that the Pokemon Bank is stopping Pokemon gained through such means from being transferred onwards. I hope the GTS is to the same standard.

Re: The New Pokemon Global Link

I'm pretty sure the Pokemon Bank has absolutely no way of knowing that a Pokemon cloned from a glitch was illegitimately obtained considering it's exactly the same as a legitimate Pokemon....that is unless you'd prefer false positives and you being locked out of your account just so absolutely no hackers get through.

I'd rather let the hackers do whatever they want in terms of getting "legitimate-looking" Pokemon than risk false positives that could potentially hurt innocent players.

I'd assume each Pokemon would have its own unique identifier, or something. Or, that the Pokemon Bank and PGL would check for identical Pokemon upon upload.

If legit players only have the one Pokemon, and haven't cloned it, I doubt there'd be any false positives. Especially if we factor in the OT in the highly unlikely chance that someone else has raised a Pokemon with exactly the same stats.
