Pokemon...in space

Now I love every new region that is introduced in each new Pokemon game, but I personally have a huge curiosity regarding Pokemon and journeying the stars. I mean, we already have Pokemon that are aliens, like Clefairy, Deoxys and I believe Kyurem. Much like the idea of life on other worlds, I'd love to see Pokemon from other worlds. Who knows, perhaps there are intelligent lifeforms out in Pokemon's galaxy or universe that also capture their Pokemon and battle. For all we know they could've already had a galactic Pokemon League thousands of years before we did. Perhaps the player could be Earth's representative trainer or something to that effect.

I apologize if the idea sounds so far-fetched, but after traveling to different lands, time periods, dimensions and otherworldly plains, space seems to appealing. Could this work as a game?

It would be Pokemon battles IN SPACE!

also Beheeyem, and Elgyem are also from space, It's funny how all of the Pokemon that are from space are Pink.

Or Legendary. Something must be in the water on whatever planet they come from.

Did you ever see the episode with the berry that turned things Pink? That's all they eat

Do you think that gravity(or lack of) would have an effect on battling.

I couldn't see a whole game on it, but I see a gym where you have to go up a space elevator to get to the leader. Effectively making it Pokemon in space.

YES, do it!!!

I wanted a space Pokemon game when I was a kid. The only problem was I never knew how they would pull it off.

I don't have much to contribute to the idea, but while reading the posts I thought of something that made me wonder...
Has anybody thought of the hilarity of seeing Diglett and Dugtrio in outer space? Quite the conundrum...

I feel I should contribute to the pokemon in outer space discussion after all.

I always felt it would be interesting to see what pokemon would be like in outer space, I thought about this idea a lot more back when "Ruby" and "Sapphire" were the big pokemon games, with all the talk about Jirachi and Deoxys supposedly coming from outer space and the supposed important role they filled considering they came from space.
I always thought it would be interesting to see a minor piece of the game take place in outer space. For instance adding a Legendary pokemon that could be located in some kind of strange ancient ruin located on the moon or something weird like that.
Although it is possible to just throw something into the game like this without really adding anything new, I find the action of actually doing this to be much more disappointing to do instead of imagining it.
Look at it this way. When we play our pokemon games, do a battle in water. Water battles have all the same physics and rules as doing a battle on land when you play the game. Logically this makes no sense, but the game developers simply make it that way out of convenience. What's to say that if they decided to a battle in space that it would be any different from doing a battle in water or on land.
We saw no changes when fighting Giratina in the "Underworld". Sure we were able to walk on walls and such, but the actual battle physics never changed.

In order to add a real area where battling in space could feel real fun and different, "Game Freak" needs to first make a pokemon game where physics and rules may actually change depending on location. Once we see that fighting in water is VERY much different from fighting on land (based on changes in battle physics), then I would say it is justified for them to try and build a section of the game in outer space.
There is some good news though that may keep your hopes up to "Pokemon in Outer Space", as with the release of "Black and White", many physical changes have happened in the battle style since the previous generation of games. We're starting to see the pokemon moving around in battles, we already have moves that take into account how fast/slow or light/heavy your pokemon is (added on to that, whenever a really heavy pokemon is brought into battle we see an animation for it riling up dirt when it comes out into play), I feel that with this new attention to the pokemon in the battlefield, the next step would obviously have to be to start tweaking the physics.

I know it's kind of a stretch but I could easily see Pokemon becoming as advanced as a "Tekken" or "Soulcalibur" game based on it's potential to add better battle physics. We do have a few moves that do change based on the type of environments you are playing on (I believe "Secret Power" is one of such moves, correct me if I'm wrong), so I stick to my assumption based on that, that soon environment physics will change. Fire Pokemon will have a disadvantage in water, and vice versa for Water Pokemon.
When the normal game physics are cleaned up a bit better, then I will accept the idea of taking these battles into zero gravity, and let me tell you when that happens, Pokemon will exceed as one of the most awesome video games to buy.

I leave you all with these two thoughts;
1. In Zero gravity does every pokemon's ability automatically become "Levitate"?
2. I return to my original joke... Diglett and Dugtrio in Space... lolwut.

Pokemon in Space sounds like it'll do well as a spin-off title rather than a core title because we have yet to find any new alien specimens to base them off of.

We have Pokemon who manipulate gravity, teleport, and other amazing abilities like that, and Pokemon have clearly influenced the technology of the franchise, how have scientists not created a machine that can artificially simulate these moves? Musharna's dream smoke had already been utilized, why can't we create space colonies?

Porygon-Z Pokedex entry
Its programming was modified to enable work in alien dimensions. It did not work as planned.

They do seem to hint in the anime and games that they are attempting to utilize Pokemon for some sort of space, or alien dimension travel, but don't seem to be successful yet even with the power of Pokemon (using Porygon-Z's Pokedex entry as an example above).

I've wanted a game like this, too. I've used the space theme in Pokemon role-plays, and would like to play such a video game too. The amount of time really spent in space or space travelling I haven't thought about, but I want to play a Pokemon sci-fi game, including spaceships. So, instead of regions, there could be different planets. However, there is one problem that must be considered: a lot of new Pokemon would have to be designed for other planets; I guess only a few Pokemon are space travellers who have visited Earth. It could be solved with that, people have travelled a lot in space and brought Pokemon with them, and some of these Pokemon have been released and gone wild on the different worlds, then adapted to that environment, and can be encountered there. So, old Pokemon, who are not space travellers or aliens, could still be encountered on other planets, because humans brought them there.

I can imagine this game starting on a spaceship where you have one starter Pokemon and meet your rival, then land on some planet to explore or do what the story calls for. Then, later on, you can choose which planets to visits in which order. However, I would avoid the drawbacks of space travelling in a Pokemon game. One drawback is that the worlds, because of their number, might be too small, and the entire game world would feel cut into pieces. I experienced this with some of the islands in FRLG. Some were not worth visiting at all. The other problem is that travelling might be difficult or tedious. How easily accessible is the spaceship and how long does it take to travel? If the worlds are regions like those in other Pokemon games, however, then one game would probably only have up to two worlds.

How space travel is done is also interesting. Will it be like surfing, but in outer space? And you would always have the 'return to spaceship' option if not in a dungeon. In that case, planets would be easily accessible, but the game would have a lot of 'water' like RS. Exploring space could be fun though, and you would be able to visit smaller areas, like moons. Or, you could simply 'teleport', like Fly, but then there would be no exploration.

Time travelling is also something I want to see in Pokemon. Like travel back to where the fossil Pokemon lived.

I don't think a Pokémon game in space is as Farfetch'd as it would have been five years ago. Bravely Second: End Layer, a sequel to a game hailed as a return to traditional RPGs, features a main character (Magnolia Arch) who comes from the moon, which is the location of a sidequest and Fire Emblem Awakening was at one point considered to be set on Mars.

Perhaps a future game could be set in an artificial settlement on a different planet and as the story progresses, the player gets to explore the planet's natural surface (and perhaps other parts of the galaxy as well)?
