So I managed to catch Minijinx and gave him a short interview. Here it is.

Skaraflame: With the upcoming Tournament, how far do you think you'll get?
Minijinx: I know the guys on PokemonWorld will definitely not believe this, but for the upcoming Gamerbase event winning isn't everything to me. I say this because I'm primarily there to be part of the event and be part of the experience. UK Pokemon community events come around so rarely that I would just rather spend time with my friends so if I accomplish that but don't win the tournament, I honestly don't mind.

SF: So how confident do you feel about the team you put together?
MJ: Pretty confident. However, I haven't felt as confident about any team i've made since the one I made with Kinneas for Birmingham VGC10. That doesn't mean my planned one won't work, because I am sure it will. However I have yet to test it and as you know, theorymon isn't nearly as useful as actually practicing with it.

SF: Do you feel under pressure by the competition? there will be a LOT of major Trainers taking part.
MJ: I would feel under pressure if I felt I didn't match up to those players. Sure, I feel that people like Kinneas and Rees will obviously be a challenge but at the end of the day I'm not going to be OVERLY competitive about this event, just going to try and have fun and get as far as possible.

SF: With the team you put together, do you feel like you have enough threat counters?

MJ: As any good Pokemon player will tell you, no one team will ever cover every threat in the metagame you are playing in. However, beating the majority of threats is what you should be aiming to do, as well as executing your own strategy. I feel my team meets both these requirements but with any team, mine does have it's weaknesses. Guess we will see if those are discovered and exploited at gamerbase!

SF: In terms of damage calculation and type coverage, how well do you think you've done?
MJ: Well in answer to the latter part, you don't need type coverage in VGC - you just need to make sure you have moves to check the biggest threats there are. But yeah, as I said earlier I feel like my team is certainly up to scratch.

SF: Do do you think people will be chanting your name in the same way people cheered on for Kinneas?
MJ: This question is pretty easy for me to answer, but it may sound weird. I really don't mind whether people cheer for Kinneas or for me. Just like at Birmingham VGC, the "KIN2WIN" chants still made me feel like people were cheering for me as we both used the same team. Because he beat me in the semi finals, I felt like he was representing not just himself but myself too in the finals. So a win for Kinneas is a win for me and vice versa. However should everyone feel the need to chant for me, please go with either "MIN2WIN" or "GEC2WRECK". Thanks

SF: The obvious question, what's your favorite Pokémon?
MJ: Ayeeeeeeeeeeee too many. Ampharos and Ludicolo are my absolute favourites, with Grumpig, Jumpluff and Delibird coming very close too. I also feel compelled to tell you that my favourite Pokemon in the VGC metagame has to be Hitmontop - seriously it's amazing.

SF: Finally, if you were to give any Trainers tips for making a winning team, what would you say?
MJ: I only have the most important tips here, but they are extremely good:
-Make it a group effort - What I find when I'm building a team for any tier and not just VGC is that I'll have finished it, think it looks perfect then show one of my friends and be told I have an inherent weakness to something so obvious that I was oblivious to. I find that making teams with other people, especially Kinneas tends to yield better results (as seen at Birmingham VGC).
-Practice makes perfect - Once you have made the team, be sure to implement it into Pokemon Online and play other people at VGC. It's one thing to make a team on paper but practicing for it gives you a better feel for your team and how to use it, as well as the various threats you will encounter. This is definitely the one thing that will give you the most success. Kinneas and I practiced with our Birmingham VGC team so much that by the night before the event itself, we were ranked #1 and #2 on the VGC ladder on Pokemon Online. On the day itself, Kinneas came out 2nd and I came out 4th. See, it works
-Don't try and make it perfect - Of course you would want your team to be the absolute best it can, but trying too hard to make it the best will often lead to it become worse than it originally was. Accept that your team has it's weaknesses but try and lessen those weaknesses as much as you can without disrupting your team too much.

That's about it really, thanks for the interview

Thanks Minijinx, good luck in the Tournament!
