[I've honestly not done anything with the Pokemon series before, and its mostly due to the fact that I'd never thought of doing so. I usually write things that are a bit darker, though in this case I don't think I'll be taking it to far, being what this is.]
Chapter I – Rebirth Of Soul
Once again, I found myself awakening to the soft sound of Quilava's snoring. It wasn't something that bothered me, only something that woke me up sometimes. Thankfully, it was never to early, and I was always up with the morning sun. Pulling the covers off, I pulled myself up, and rubbed my eyes as I sat on the side of the bed. On the closet door hung the clothes that mom had likely washed, and the same outfit that I'd left the house with, on my first day as a Trainer. Nothing about that day was as I expected, though I didn't think that it should've been. How it all turned out, I don't think I wanted it to be much different.
Almost like the same clockwork my mother usually operated on, Lavakun, the nickname I'd given to him just after he evolved, woke up. He slowly walked over to the side of the bed, and sat down, looking at me with his loving stare. I patted him on the head, as he smiled, adding a soft 'Lava'. When I first met him, everyone mentioned our unique connection, which was mostly the same as I'd had with friends, though it was different in that Lavakun was a Pokemon, one that I wouldn't dream of losing. Not that I'd lost friends, as Ethan still called me, and I still visited him from time to time. He might be a trainer like me, but he wasn't out for Gym Badges like I was. Not that I'm bragging, as it wasn't easy to get the six I had.
After my shower, I walked back into my bed room, and took the hangar from the closet door, laying it on the bed. I always found it funny that whenever I removed the towel, Lavakun always covered his eyes with a paw, never moving it until I said 'Alright, I'm dressed”. Once I finished with dressing, I slipped my shoes on, and grabbed my bag from the desk. Lavakun followed me, as always, when I went downstairs. I casually threw Lavakun a berry as we entered the kitchen, watching him catch it in his mouth and simile as he ate it. Mom walked in just after I did, and Lavakun rushed to meet her. She patted him on the head before she headed towards the table.
“Morning Lyra! You want some breakfast?” She patted Lavakun on his head as she asked.
“No. I'll get something at the Pokemon Center, once I get to Ecruteak City.” I said this as I walked towards the front door. Mom just said 'Alright, bye honey!'
Leaving the house wasn't something I hadn't done before, but it always brought with it that lovely nostalgia. I remembered all of the events that occurred the day I left to go to Professor Elm's lab. Like I said, not much of it was normal for most trainers, but then, I was glad it wasn't.
Just like other trainers in Johto, I left the house that morning with my Pokegear, Trainer Card, and the bag mom got me for my last birthday. Along with the information that Elm had some sort of errand for me to run, one that coincided with me becoming a Pokemon Trainer, as I'd wanted for a number of years. When got to his lab, he told me that a friend of his, Mr Pokemon, had found something that was somewhat unlike anything that he'd found before. Elm asked me if I could go to Mr Pokemon, to retrieve the egg, and bring it back to the lab. He then mentioned that I'd need to chose a Pokemon to take with me, as the routes would be dangerous without one. Like I expected to, I chose Cyndaquil. I'd always had a preference for fire types, though I'd never had one before.
When I left the lab, I saw a red haired boy standing by the side of the lab, looking into one of the windows. Having no idea why he was there, I chose not to talk to him. Though as I passed him, I did hear him whisper to himself “So this is the famous Elm Pokemon lab...”. Having no idea as to what he was going to do, I simply continued on my way. The road to Cherrygrove city wasn't to complicated, though the fight with a few wild Pokemon I struggled with, at least at first.
Upon getting to Cherrygrove, a kind old man noticed that I was a new Trainer, and showed me some of the more important things about being a trainer, such as the Centers and Marts. That aside, I quickly headed to Mr. Pokemon's house, which wasn't a easy trek. When I did reach his house, after I'd mistakenly entered someone else, who told me distinctly that I wasn't in the right house. He wasn't mean, even giving me something for the trouble. As I entered, I noticed Mr. Pokemon talking with someone I'd seen before. Noticing me, they both greeted me.
“Ah, you must be Lyra. Professor Elm's email mentioned that you would be retrieving the egg.” He ran to grab the egg from a glass case. “Now, this is a Pokemon egg, or so I believe. These are somewhat rare, though I've heard the Day-Care Center near Goldenrod sees them sometimes.” He carefully handed me the egg. It had blue and red triangle patterns all over, and was slightly warm to the touch.
The other man, who wore a lab coat similar to professor Elm, walked over to me. “Hello Lyra. You might have heard of me, though if you haven't, I'm professor Oak.” He extended his hand and I took it. “Now, as I understand it, you've recently received your first Pokemon. He looked at Cyndaquil, who sat on my shoulder. “I see he likes you.” He dug into his pocket, and pulled out a rather strange looking device, though I had seen it somewhere before. “This is a pokedex. It's function is to record data on Pokemon you see, either in the wild, in possession of trainers, or those you catch. I would like to give it to you, but only if you wish to assist me in collecting data on Pokemon. Would you like to help me?”
I looked at Cyndaquil, and he nodded. “Sure, I'd love to help.”
“Very well.” He handed me the pokedex. “Ah, look at the time. I must be going. I have a Radio show in Goldenrod to co-host. Pleasure to meet you, Lyra.” He left the house, and I looked back at Mr. Pokemon.
“Now that you have the egg, I'd suggest you get back to Professor Elm as soon as you can.” He busied himself with something, as I left the house.
Immediately, my pokegear rang. I picked it up, only to hear “Oh Lyra, this is terrible. Someone stole one of the other Pokemon. Try to get back here as soon as you can, but be careful Lyra.”
I found myself almost running back to Cherrygrove, hoping every single ledge that I saw. As I entered the city, I hurried towards the road that lead back to Elm's lab, when I ran into someone. Most distinct was his deep red hair, and the somewhat detached expression on his face, which he had, until he really glanced at me. Then it changed to a judging expression. “You got your pokemon from Elm's lab. As I expected, you are weak. You aren't deserving of that Pokemon.”
Cyndaquil jumped from my shoulder, and I saw flames burst from his back. One of his eyes looked at me, and I nodded. The boy scoffed. “So you want to battle me? Fine. I'll prove that you are weak.” He took a pokeball from his belt, touched the front button, and threw it into the air. From it, came a Pokemon I wasn't sure of. I grabbed the pokedex, and opened it. “Totodile, the Big Jaw Pokémon. A water type, known for its large and strong jaws. Trainers are warned: It loves to bite down.”
