Pokemon Explorers of the Sky Special
- It begins with the long explanation followed by the Mystery Dungeon theme BGM.
- They explain about the Time Gears, as well as Dialga and the three pixies. Mystery dungeons formed because of abnormalities in time?
- Next they explain about Wigglytuff's exploration guild. Team Razor Wind is frozen in time.
- Piplup and Chimchar team up with Grovyle and they defeat several pokemon. The trio meet Lapras and head to the Hidden Land.
- The guild discusses their progress. Grovyle explains about the collapse of the Temporal Tower and as a result, Dialga changes to Primal Dialga.
- As the group and Lapras arrive to the Hidden Land, Piplup recalls to the time that he met Chimchar and formed Team Pokepals (the last special). Piplup mentions how it does not remember anything, but it still wants to save the world.
- Temporal Tower is seen off at the distance. Lapras briefs the group on what they should do next, as it cannot assist them any further.
- Wow, that was quick. Piplup and co. arrive at the temple ruins. Grovyle reads the Unown's language on the tablet. There is a rift in the space and time continuum. Grovyle briefs them that the temple itself is the Rainbow Stoneship and tells Chimchar to place the Relic Fragment in the small keyhole in order to activate the ship.
- As Chimchar does, however, the group of Sableye attack the group. Dusknoir appears behind them and prepares to fight them. Dusknoir leaves as the group fend off the Sableye.
- As the black fog appears to consume the guild, Wigglytuff explains that it's useless to fire attacks at the fog. They decide to join together and believe in Piplup and the others as they freeze in time.
- Dusknoir prepares to leave. The trio prepare their attack combination of Energy Ball, Fire Spin, and Whirlpool to defeat the Sableye. Grovyle stops Dusknoir from returning forward in time. Dusknoir escapes their grasp and fights the group. Dusknoir fires a long-charged Shadow Ball which is repelled by the same attack combination.
- Dusknoir is defeated and the Sableye return back into the future. Chimchar takes the Relic Fragment back. Chimchar heads to the stoneship.
- As Grovyle and Piplup follow, Dusknoir stops them, telling them that the pokemon in the future will disappear. Grovyle was amazed by how beautiful the past was and that they can change the future, even if they risk their lives doing so. Grovyle tells Piplup that this is what they have decided when they have returned back into the present.
- Grovyle mentions that the past has changed because before they had nothing to lose. Due to Chimchar's influence, Piplup becomes hesitant.
- Dusknoir takes the Relic Fragment back and another battle ensures. Grovyle is hit by Dark Pulse.
- Grovyle uses his strength and speed to force Dusknoir back into the future. Grovyle tells Chimchar to protect Piplup. Chimchar tells Grovyle that he will not be as great as Piplup, but Grovyle ensures that they make a better team than he did with Piplup. Grovyle gives Piplup the Time Gears before forcing Dusknoir into the time rift.
- Piplup picks up a Time Gear and mourns for Grovyle. Chimchar tells Piplup that they cannot allow Grovyle's sacrifice to be a waste. Piplup notes that Chimchar does not realize that Piplup and Grovyle would disappear if they repair time.
- Piplup and Chimchar activate the Rainbow Stoneship. The ship advances towards the Temporal Tower. The duo are determined to defeat Dialga. The last shot shows Primal Dialga roaring on the top of Temporal Tower.

Ah, I forgot you, Nanba Corphish. Professor Birch voice Grovyle. Chatot is deeper, I think. Lovely voice, Lapras. Ah, they're a Gold Rank rescue team now. I think. *loves the game music* No echo-y attacks this time. And we're skipping straight to the stomach mouth thing. "When I came to this planet"? Isn't it supposed to be "When I came to this time"? Dag you, awkward commercial breaks. I think that rainbow thing was a cooler effect in the game. This seemed to go too fast, but what do I expect from a special? Pretty good.

Three comments:

Piplup is a boy!
Why do they all have to say there attacks I feel like I'm watching digimon except the attack names actually matter.
Why does Grovyle call him piplup if he knew him as a human?

EPIC FAIL.

XD Well, on its own, it was good. But it just feels so, so, so weird to what feels like the first and penultimate episodes of a TV series and not have the rest. And it's really such a shame we didn't just get the 13-episode miniseries MD2 should have been. ;_; I'll bet this confused the hell out of people who hadn't played the game. "Grovyle's a good guy and Piplup's from the future and what's with this evil Dusknoir and what's a Relic Fragment and Temporal Tower and Primal Dialga and all this other stuff and what is going ooooon". And nobody dare quote me and talk about how a series was never the intention and there are just adverts. I know that. Just sayin'.

Anyway, the special itself:

-Was I not paying enough attention, or did the narrator only name two of the three pixies?

-Dusknoir sure takes forever to get over to that time portal.

-I wish Dawn's Piplup's Whirlpool worked like that.

-Despite the lack of set-up, Piplup's realization of his upcoming death and Grovyle's departure were rather saddening.

It was good to watch, and I really like the art style. I only saw half of the one at 7:00 and the one at 7:30, so I felt a little confused at times. Honestly though it wasn't that hard to fill in the blanks. So was that the ending or are there more out there in the future?

I also guess the show acomplished its main goal too. I'll admit; I'm interested in the new game, and I'm about to go play some Blue rescue team now.

Wow, that was cool! I hadn't seen the second PMD special before, so I watched them both! ^^

And I've gotta say, the second and third specials were awesome. I really enjoyed watching them!! =)

Explorers of Sky was so sad... I remember that scene from the game. Man, it was just as sad in the special! I almost cried! :bawling:

But it's too bad it was only 30 minutes. I was hoping they'd show the whole story, and everything that happened in the game. XP

And by the way, does anyone know who voiced Lapras? I liked Lapras' voice! ^^

I was thinking of taping this, so I could check out the credits. But I didn't, cause I wanted to watch it on a different TV.

Pretty good. Needed to be an hour-special though so they could include more of primal dialga (as well as an epic fight) and the end of the game. I can bet there's at least one person who just saw this going "what happened to the guild/grovyle/the rest of the story?"

Thankfully whirlpool and fire spin are justifiable in being so strong since PMD makes them actually decent really good moves.

It was good that the dub added the "Beyond Time and Darkness" title because it focused more on those two games than any of the improvements they had made in the third version.

It was okay. The voices sounded nice, but didn't have the dialouge to match. And this sorta raises the question: Don't pokemon have actual names, on not just their species name. I'm sure it gets comfusing when you have more than 3 of the same type of pokemon together.

I know no one said this, but just want to note it-

Although Lapras (who is male) was given a female voice that doesn't mean his gender was changed to female. This isn't exactly rare. For example Saturn in the Japanese version has a feminine voice, yet was called "Man" in the credits from the episode he first (this was before his name was revealed) appeared in.

Well, that was a letdown. We didn't get to see the epic battle with Dialga. Oh well. I suppose it doesn't matter. It was still a great special. I especially liked Yami Grovyle.

I nearly cried when Grovyle went back to the future, knowing he's going to disappear...

The special wall really good, except for some few parts, other then that, it was a pretty good special. :3

I haven't played the games, so I was a little confused about the whole thing, obviously quite a lot happened in the time between the first and second Time & Darkness specials, and I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one - mainly because I had no idea what was going on.

Ah, I forgot you, Nanba Corphish.
I didn't notice that last time, but it seems really obvious when you compare the two. I'm assuming the "Hey Hey" comes from an untranslated Japanese thing, seeing as Heigani is Corphish's Jap name, right?

That was the intention. It was also present in the games as well.

I'm surprised YTV actually showed this along with some "new" episodes and the first MD.

I wish it was its own series. It made me want to by the games just to fill the gap so I guess it did its job :p

I havent even seen the previous MD specials
and im also pretty behind my eps now as well
Im not sure if ill even watch the MD specials even if they ever do make it over the Atlantic they seem very gimmicky to me

Yeah, Japanese Corphish said that all the time in the anime, and I guess the NOA translators must have noticed that we liked it. You gotta admit, a Pokemon saying what sounds like "Hey-hey!" instead of its name is pretty cool/funny.
