Introduction:
Years ago, the town of Independence wasn't very well known. A small city isolated in the country side, few residents lived there, and even fewer travelers came through. It was a quaint, quiet city, and the small community enjoyed the peace that Independence provided.
Now, it's a much different story. An explorer team by the name of The Pioneers began to search the forests and caverns nearby Independence. Hidden, sprawled across the landscape of the town, were mystery dungeons: almost supernatural occurrences filled with secrets, but more importantly, vast treasures!
Word began to spread of the Pioneers discoveries, and within weeks, Independence found itself taking in visitors from all over; explorers, rescuers, and their families, seeking fame and fortune, or simply wanting to lend a helping hand. Independence experienced a boom in activity, and the town grew exponentially to accommodate. Some of the citizens welcomed the popularity, while others resented it.
Over time, the Independence explorers guild was formed, creating a base of operations for the various exploration teams to gather, rest, and regroup after their missions. Every day, new dungeons are discovered, and treasures found and excavated. But, all is not well for the people of Independence. The dungeons hold many secrets, and some secrets are best left undiscovered…
Welcome to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon!
If you’ve ever played the Mystery Dungeon games, you should know the basic gist of things, However, for the unintiated, Mystery Dungeon is a spin-off from the main series of Pokémon games. In this series, there are no humans. The entire cast is Pokémon, forming their own little towns and villages. Some form into organized groups, called “Exploration Teams” for the purpose of helping Pokémon in need, finding treasure, or as the name implies, simply exploring for the adventure!
In this roleplay, your character will be a rookie to the exploration game, joining one of the newer exploration teams (the team name is still up in the air, and as the players will be on the same team, I’m open to suggestions). Generally, we’ll be spending time exploring dungeons, fighting bad-guys, finding clues, and advancing the general plot!
About the world:
As mentioned above, the city of Independence is a small, quaint little town that has recently been witness to a large spike in activity and population. What was once home to only a handful of Pokémon is now an active and bustling city housing dozens of families. Since the arrival of The Pioneers some 20 years ago, Independence has gone from a quiet village to a small city. The Explorers' Guild headquarters is located at the top of a large mountain just outside of Independence. Members of the Guild usually have their own residences within, and are provided with many amenities in exchange for a portion of the profits of their missions. Every day, the Guild receives requests from all around, from the city of Independence and abroad, often asking for help to find lost items, arrest criminals, and locate missing persons. Though the Guild's services do not cost money, donations are accepted and encouraged, and many requests have rewards as payment for services rendered.
RULES:
- All BMG rules apply.
- No God-modding, bunnying or tennising (I shouldn’t even have to say this).
- As GM, my word is law. If you have any questions, concerns, or issues, I’ll be happy to work them out with you and reach a satisfying conclusion, but in the end, I have the final say in all matters.
- This RP is rated Teen. Moderate amounts of violence and romance are allowed, but keep it within reasonable limits. No disintegrations, decapitations, explicit sexual content, excessive swearing, etc… you know the drill. Don't go crazy. Keep it clean.
- This last one isn’t so much a rule as a general guideline. While I’m not expecting everyone to be perfect writers with flawless mastery of the English language, do try to be neat and legible with your posts. Absolutely no "l33t sp37k" or other lazy forms of writing (u =/= you). Try to have some depth; “one-liner” posts are boring. Be creative!

Forbidden Pokémon list:
This is a list of which Pokémon you may not choose. While things aren’t going to be very by-the-numbers, this is done for balance reasons (baby pokémon that only learn four moves, for example).
- Legendaries (for obvious reasons).
- Unown (If you honestly wanted to pick Unown, I don’t know what to say).
- In keeping with the spirit of the games, first-form Pokémon only (exceptions noted below).
- The following baby pokémon are disallowed: Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Tyrogue, Azurill, Budew, Chingling, and Happiny. For these pokémon, an exception may be made for the 2nd rule (e.g. you can pick Jigglypuff, Pikachu, Marill, etc…).
- Rotom, Ditto, Castform, Beldum, Larvesta, and Spiritomb.
- Kangaskhan.
- Pokémon with only one form (no evolutions) will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
- Scyther. Just kidding.

As a general guideline of what kind of sign-up I expect, here is my own.
Name: Matthew Thatch
Gender: Male
Species: Scraggy
Age: 15
Personality: Matthew can best be described as a nervous worry-wart. He tends to second-guess himself frequently, and lacks the kind of confidence and self-esteem that most people around his age would have. However, he tries to hide these insecurities as best he can. In front of others, he will always put on a brave face, acting as steadfast and courageous as he can... though this facade fades quickly if things become too much for him to handle.
Despite his nervous tendencies, Matthew desperately desires to be brave. He throws himself into uncomfortable, and even dangerous, situations in an attempt to "toughen up" himself. Often times, he will spend days mentally preparing himself for these tasks, making sure every precaution is taken to ensure his safety. Matthew tends to take criticism more seriously than he should, but also responds very well to compliments because of this. All in all, he recognizes his own shortcomings, and actively works to try and get over them... with varying amounts of success.
History: When Independence first began to receive visitors, the Thatch family was one of the first to arrive. Matthew was the second and youngest child of the family, with his sister, Heidi, immediately jumping at the opportunity to join an exploration team. Matthew admired his older sister greatly, both for her tenacity and her courage. When Matthew was young, Heidi often regaled him with stories of her exploits and adventures while exploring, which Matthew greatly enjoyed. He always desired to go adventuring like his sister, but often felt too young and inexperienced to do so. His own fear of failure held him back for the longest time, as he sat and watched Heidi go on adventure after adventure.
Eventually, Matthew could take no more waiting. At the age of 15, he mustered up the courage to join the guild, and become part of his own exploration team. Though at first showing apprehension and timidity during his first assignments, Matthew found that increased exposure made his initial worry subside. After a year of going on smaller missions with a rookie group, the group's leader had left the exploring game, leaving a nervous and frightened young Matthew in charge. While still relatively inexperienced, Matthew took hold of his new-found leadership, and though anxious, began to recruit for his new team.
Moves: Sand Attack, Headbutt, Brick Break, Dragon Dance, Leer.
Miscellaneous: Easily startled. Has a strong affinity for berry tea. Theme Song: Transistor.
