Pokémon Mystery Dungeon sequel well-received: 568,888 units sold in first week, takes top spot ...

According to Media Create, the new Nintendo DS games, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Time and Darkness Expeditions, have sold a total of 568,888 units in its first week, with 300,295 units of the Time version and 268,593 units of the Darkness version sold. The combined sales put Pokémon Mystery Dungeon at the #1 spot for the week Sept. 10 - 16, beating the PSP game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, which was released on the same day.

Pokémon Card GB 2 sold 806,798 units in its first week, when its predecessor had only sold 245,630 units. In the following weeks, the sequel game did not even reach an added 100,000; the original's final sale report was 1,379,422 with the sequel's 487,717 units behind it.

Pokémon Card GB 2 did not see the light of the day outside Japan, though based on the first game's performance alone in those countries, it would not have been a waste of time.

I find the fact that Mystery Dungeon 2 comprises of two nearly carbon versions, to be a bad omen for its continued success. Even if this proved false for Japan, it would be within the realm of reason not to follow the multiple-version scheme for the potential stateside release.
