Does anyone else find them a bit irritating?

In the sense that sometimes the nature doesn't seem befitting of the pokemon.

I've caught Mewtwo and Dialga in HG in the past week, (Dialga using the Arceus event at the Sinjoh Ruins), and both have a timid nature. I suppose in the grand scheme of the game it doesn't make much difference but it annoys me when I look at the stats and it says I have a timid Dialga. FFS.

I see someone doesn't know about IVs.

XD

But yes, it's strange, especially when a Good nature has a wierd name. Timid? WTF?

Timid is an excellent Nature for Mewtwo. It has a higher speed at the expense of it's attack stat... Which it normally wouldn't be using.

Natures are interesting, but it can be a little frustrating to keep getting Pokémon that have terrible natures on them. Luckly it can be influenced by Pokémon that have Syncronize or using the Everstone in breeding.

I EV trained a steelix in defence, it was my first ever time EV training so i just ignored the nature and Ev trained, eventually got him to lvl 100, saw that my def was good but not as good as if it was EV trained, looked at natures online, BOTH my nature and IV reduced defence lmao. fml

What is so bad about a Relaxed Registeel instead of a careful one? I really find it irritating for the nature part alone!

I still don't understand EV training. My Jolly starmie's speed is 160 while my timid one is 159.I battled golbats alone. How couldn't the timid one reach the same value as the jolly one?

Too bad breeding is impossible for legends(except for Manapy)

In a metagame where speed is extremely important, having a speed lowering nature is usually seen as a hinderance.

However, there are a few Pokémon where the speed stat is all but useless, but it really depends on the moveset.

It might be due to IVs instead. The timid Starmie might have a lower IV then the jolly one.

As for natures of legendaries. It normally is a pain.

they dont tend to make THAT much difference to each pokemons stats

I don't EV train & don't soft reset for the right nature & i turned out just fine..........

Its all Smogon's fault that forces me to catch legends with a good nature.
I wish that site was gone for good! I mean really Why impish for Hariyama? and why relaxed for Forretress?!?

I don't think Natures are irritating, because it kind of give Pokemon a personality. In fact, some interesting fan art was spawned because of the existence of natures. I think GameFreak also had caught on with the hassle of breeding or capturing for a good nature, so that's why the ability Synchronise and the Everstone are great assets for great abilities in the first place. The only thing I am bugged is the fact that there are five neutral abilities, but because those abilities worked differently from one another in other functions (like one of the Emerald Battle Frontier stations), I guess they have their uniqueness as well.

No one's forcing you to catch a Pokemon of a particular nature. If you don't want to battle competitively, don't bother using it at all.

Hariyama and Forretress have Impish and Relaxed, respectively, because those are the natures that fit the moveset and the Pokemon. You're not going to give Hariyama Mild and Forretress Hasty because that wouldn't make much sense.

I don't care about what the natures strengthen or weaken, but I love that it gives my Pokémon a personality.

I find Pokémon that have the correct nature that raise their best competitive stats, such as Adamant for Gyarados and Jolly for Garchomp.

I am in this boat as well. I like the little blurbs about them too. "likes to run" or whatever...

those are always funny

I like natures because it gives so much more to the game competitively. In-game it does not matter at all to me, except for the frontier.

And the characteristics are nice to read for personality :D

I like natures not just because of the variety it brings in competitive play but also because it makes perfect sense that Pokemon would have personalities too.

I wish they mattered more, or were at least something that weren't set in stone upon capture. I would rather the nature not be decided until a certain level and for that nature to be changeable should you so choose by using what effort values you developed most to set the nature. Like say I bred a Squirtle, I would rather that not have a set nature until I had trained it awhile. I haven't really given it much thought though, so this may sound silly.
