Hey there! Welcome to Pokemon Next Generation. Feel free to leave a review behind if you wish to do so! I will be adding in chapters as I go. Basically everything that you'll read here will be written right at the top of my head. I haven't really done any brainstorming beforehand nor have i really sat down to do a character biography. Even though it's going to sometimes end up with me having a little writers block, it's how I prefer to do my stories.

Prelude:

“They say that a team is as strong as its weakest link. Some claim that there aren’t any weak Pokémon around because it’s all about bonding. When you have a strong bond with a Pokémon, you can reach new heights” A light sigh came from the Trainers lips as he moved his hand down to grab a Pokeball from his belt “Both sayings are true. But you can’t rely on just one. A combination of the two makes a Trainer a champion.” The trainer moved his gaze over to a youngster on the opposite side of the field. “I don’t want to be a champion. I’m not adamant enough to complete such a heavy task.” The youngster on the other side, who was more than eager to start the Pokémon battle, gave a heavy sigh before he spoke with plenty of frustration. “For crying out loud, I don’t want to hear your life story. I just wanted to have a battle with you!” The trainer raised his one free hand and waggled his finger at him “No no, I haven’t finished yet. I still have a lot more advice to give you.”

“Forget it! I’m out of here!” yelled the youngster as he called the Rattata back into his Pokéball. “Oi! Come back here!” yelled the Trainer in return as he tried to run after him.

Chapter 1 - A Flame still burns:

"Well, that was like the third time today... I wonder why they keep running away like that." Said the Trainer as he took big paces forward as he kept his cell phone onto his ear "Well Conner, you're twenty four years old now and still on the road to become a Pokémon Champ- " said the caller on the other side before Conner interrupted "Wowowow, hold on. I gave up on that a loooooong time ago Shelly.” Shelly gave a little sigh as she moved over to the kitchen sink to pour herself a glass of water “Really” she said sarcastically before she continued “That’s why you still haven’t come home yet. That’s why you STILL take the time to lecture young aspiring Pokémon trainers.” Conner’s mouth curled down into a little frown “You make a point there Shell…I don’t like it.” He said with a hint of annoyance as he spotted a group trainers arguing with each other.

“Well if you took the time to-“ Once again, Conner decided to interrupt Shelly while she was speaking. This was something that took priority over a casual chat with his girlfriend. “Gotta go Shell, some trainers are arguing here.” Shelly pouted “Wait Con-“ *BLEEP*. Conner hung up and hurried over to the group. Meanwhile Shelly shook her head and just smiled. She knew that Conner was still the ten year old kid who left New Bark Town to become a Pokémon Champion. She knew that deep down inside, that fire was still burning. He just needed someone or something to fuel that fire.

“Alright kids, what’s going on?” Conner asked as he stopped in front of the three young trainers. “This guy over here claims that his Sandshrew is better than mine!” Said one of the kids, sporting a yellow cap. “That’s because it totally is!” said the other one, wearing a green cap. “Well, my Sandshrew will easily beat the both you any day!” said the last one with the orange cap. “Listen, let’s settle this the easy way. You three will use your Sandshrews against my Pokémon. If you guys lose, you will all be equally sucky.” Said Conner with a little grin.

“Oi, you have a lot of nerve, old man. You think you can beat us?!” Said the kid with the orange cap before the other two came to stand beside him. All three shouting out loud “We are Blue Lagoon’s most famous triplets!” And there it was. Their signature pose. The orange cap stood in the middle whilst the other two were leaning against him. Conner bursts out laughing. “You kids are ridiculous. I didn’t know this was still a thing.” He said, referring to the whole introduction and pose routine. “It’s cute though, I have to admit.” Conner pointed out before he took a Pokéball from his belt. The three young trainers were getting more and more annoyed at Conner. “Don’t make fun of us!” yelled the kid with yellow cap. “Yeah, that’s not cool!” added the kid with the green cap. Particularly the kid with the orange cap was fuming at this point. He appeared to be the oldest of the three and was probably the one with the worst temper.

“Alright alright… A man like me shouldn’t go around mocking children. Allow me to get to business. Accelgor!” Conner commanded as he threw the Pokéball forward before sliding his hands into his pockets. The youngsters gave a sharp nod and threw out their Pokéballs “Let’s go, Sandshrew!” The triplets were perfectly synced when it came to battling. Conner squinted his eyes at the Sandshrew as he tried to analyse the situation. ‘Hmm, I can tell that they had quite a few battles under their belt. They benefit from the fact that they can always battle each other. These are no rookie Sandshrew. On top of that, it could very well be possible that they are going to resort to Rock moves to try and take my Accelgor out. Fortunately for me though. Accelgor has seen quite a few battles. They have no chance.’

The three pointed their fingers out at their Sandshrew and commanded loudly “Sandshrew, roll out!” Conner clicked his tongue and balled pulled his right hand out, balling it. ‘Crap, just as I expected.’ He thought as he saw the Sandshrew curling up into a ball and then rush towards his Pokemon. “Accelgor, dodge them with Quick attack!” Conner commanded. His Accelgor gave a sharp nod and shot forward. Even though the Sandshrew were fairly well trained, they could not match Accelgor’s speed. “Im….possible” Said the orange cap youngster as he and his brothers were completely flabbergasted. “Accelgor cannot be that fast!” added the green cap youngster. Conner didn’t want to drag this fight out any longer than it should. “Accelgor, finish them off with Giga drain.” He commanded and about a half an hour later, the three were standing on the steps of their house in Blue Lagoon, analysing their battle. Conner had already gone off to make his way over to the next town.

“I have met a lot of trainers, but that man was something else.” Said the orange cap youngster as he continued “We fought and won a lot, but he made our Sandshrew look like untrained Pokemon.” The yellow cap youngster, who was sitting on the steps, shot his gaze up at his brother “He reminds me of that one Trainer that we fought not too long ago. You know, that guy with the Brown hair and the yellow shirt. Hmm, what was his name…Deacon?” The green cap youngster knew exactly what his brother was talking about “Ah yeah Deacon! He was amazing but he already had eight badges and was making his way to the Johto League. Didn’t he win?” The orange cap youngster nodded sharply. “As a matter of fact he did. This man though, he could easily rival Deacon’s skill. I’m curious to see what would happen if the two actually fought.”

Conner had found his way into a forest outside of Blue Lagoon and Accelgor was floating next to him. He was still out of his Pokéball because Conner preferred his company whilst traveling. “Perhaps we really should go back on the road….like for real. Our journey started such a long time ago. I don’t even know why we stopped taking things seriously. We had a winning team you know. Even though I caught them, I couldn’t bear the thought of them never being used in battle.“ Accelgor listened carefully and acknowledged Conner’s words with a few nods. “Sometimes I regret releasing them, but I’m sure they’re living a better life now. There is no point in catching Pokémon if you aren’t going to end up using them. Letting them stay at the resort isn’t a bad thing and I understand that some trainers do that, but I’d rather them roam free.

Determination is often the reason why many Pokémon trainers end up returning to their hometowns. Some miss their homes and give up on their dreams. Others struggle to see the progress that they made and think that they're better off doing something else. Other's like Conner never gave up on their dream, but lost their goal over the course of time. Great things are still in store for Conner.

Chapter 2 – I’m sorry:

It’s been more than a week since Conner had moved on from Blue Lagoon. His destination was his home, New Bark Town. Going down the mountain, Conner made it back to the Inland City of Blue Point Isle from where he took a boat to Cianwood City. The archipelago was officially behind him. Conner’s goal to become a Pokemon League champion was long gone, but for some reason he still loved travelling and exploring. His curiosity brought him to the Whirl Islands but instead of pushing further, he turned back. It was a clear sign that Conner was truly out of touch with his priorities and goals. He was ready to leave it all behind. To finally head home for good. Shelly had been waiting for him for such a long time. Even though he went back from time to time, he was never around long enough to notice how much she cared about hi

“Here we are...New Bark Town” Conner said with a light sigh as he moved his gaze slowly over to Accelgor as they made his way over to his house. The defeat in his eyes was clearly noted by his trustworthy companion. Accelgor could feel the sadness inside of his friend. The one thing that refrained him from trying to convince Conner to turn back around was the acceptance that he could notice in his eyes. It was hidden behind his sadness. They had been travelling for such a long time. His expressions weren't unfamiliar to Accelgor. He knew exactly what he was thinking.

It was Saturday, Shelly wasn’t working at the convenience store today. Conner remembered her mother taking over her job during the weekends. He knew that she was home. He stopped in front of her house and glanced up at it before he decided to approach the door. His hands were trembling as he slowly moved his left hand up towards the doorbell. His left index finger softly touched the button of the doorbell and the lightest of pushes followed. It was barely enough for the ring to go through.

The door opened and there she stood. Shelly was wearing flip flops and jean shorts. A white tank top covered her bosom and she had her blonde hair up. She was beautiful. Conner couldn't deny that. It almost made him feel like he truly belonged here after all. It took a second for Shelly to realize Conner was standing in front of her. “Oh my god..” she said with a whisper as she lunged forward, falling into his arms, of one her flip flops shot from her feet and landed further down the hallway. “Conner!” She said with a tone of relief as if she was glad that he finally came back. It had also been a week since she had been talking to him on the phone.

“Hey…” Conner replied as he held her close for a moment “It’s been a while.” Oddly enough his mind was still trying to accept and cope with the fact that he had finally truly given up. Moments later the two had found themselves sitting at a table in the kitchen having a drink. She had coffee and he had iced tea. “I'm so happy that you’re back.” She said as she placed her hand onto his. “Yeah..” he replied as he moved his gaze from the table up at her face. Shelly could tell that he was having a rough time, but instead of confronting him about it, she decided to try and move his thoughts away and over to Accelgor for a moment.

“How is Accelgor doing?” she asked as her eyes shot towards the window, looking through the glass to see Accelgor just floating there above the grass. Some kids were actually staring at him. “He’s….-“ Conner stopped for a moment to find the right word “Coping with it, I suppose.” He replied as he gave a little nod at her. He didn't really want to look at his friend right now. Accelgor was probably even more disappointed than he was. Conner felt a clear sense of guilt towards his friend. Accelgor was always the high spirited one. If there was a Pokémon capable of taking on the world, than it would be him.

“Listen, I'm sorry it had to come to all of this Conner, but your life is not over. There is a lot more that you can still do. You could become a teacher at the Pokemon School. Your experience can definitely be used to prepare trainers for their oncoming journey. You have been through so much…you could teach them a lot.” Shelly said as she uncrossed her legs. She moved her hand way from his as she got up from her seat. Conner tried his best to come up with a response but he had nothing positive to say.

Days passed and Conner noticed that his presence around the house made Shelly that much more happy. He hadn't seen her in such high spirits since she was a child. Conner was slowly drifting into a depression though. This life wasn't for him. He couldn't be a family man. At least not yet. There was a constant thought of wanting to accomplish something big before finally settling down and that feeling of throwing away his last opportunity was haunting him every second of the day. It was finally during a regular days work at the convenience store that Conner snapped.

“Conner dear, can you bring those boxes to the storage room please?” Shelly happily asked as she was finishing up some last work before they could both go home for the day. Conner picked the stack of boxes up and carried them down the aisle. About halfway in, he stopped. The stack of boxes slipped from his fingers and dropped onto the floor. Shelly startled for a moment and shot her gaze down the aisle at Conner. For some reason the aisle appeared longer than normal through her eyes. She could tell that this was his breaking point. She had been hoping for things to change but she noticed that they weren't. She felt her heart beat in her throat as she awaited his words.

“I can’t do this Shelly.” Conner said as he balled his fists. He was trembling as he felt a few tears run down his face. “I really tried, but I can’t. This isn't me. I can’t be this guy right now. I don’t know why I am being like this. Why I decided to throw my dream away. I am back in New Bark, but I don’t feel at home.” Shelly balled her right hand and stomped onto counter “You cannot do this again Conner! You can’t just come back, make me feel happy for a few days and then pick your stuff up to leave again! I've been waiting for you since I was ten! I have always supported your goal to become a champion. I have done my best to be there for you when things were tough. I can’t keep doing this. Sometimes I really wonder if you even realize that the reason why I am here, after all these years, is because I love you.”

Conner’s eyes widened when he heard those three words. The tears in his eyes were still clearly there. He had to leave the area. He couldn't be here any longer. He couldn't be in New Bark town any more. Conner rushed down the aisle and out of the convenience store. Shelly wasn’t just going to let him run away though. She leaped over the counter and ran after him. Once she slammed the door open and stepped outside, she yelled his name “Conner!” It was enough for him to stop. He didn't turn around to face her though. He didn’t want her to see his tears. “I’m not going to let you leave again Conner! I am not going to let you break my heart again. I love you and I will fight for it if I have to.” She yelled fiercely as he moved her hand behind her back to pull out a Pokéball.

Conner moved his gaze over his shoulder. He rubbed his arm over his face in an attempt to wipe away his tears. “What are you doing Shelly? I'm not going to fight you.” Conner said as he tried to make her stop. “No screw you Conner!” she immediately replied as she continued “You want go back on the road? You want to live your dreams? Fine, go right ahead but I’m not going to just let you leave without proving to you how much I want you to stay. And I sure as hell am going to make sure that you’re not going to half ass it this time around. You say you want to be a champion? Then learn to live with defeat and learn to accept your losses. Because if you decide to walk out on me again, I will defeat you and you will lose me. Machop go!” She yelled out as she threw her Pokéball towards Conner.

The Pokéball popped open and Machop lunged for Conner. “That’s where you’re wrong!” Conner said as he waited for the last moment before he shifted on his heel, moving his right hand down as he pulled his Pokéball from his belt. “I HAVE learned to accept my losses, because the one thing I truly miss about being on the road, is you. I love you too Shelly. More than you could ever imagine. And I will win this fight today. Defeat is not an option. I understand if I will lose you after today. You have no reason to stay with someone like me. But I have to do this…not just for myself but for Accelgor too, and for all the other people and Pokemon that once believed in me. Know this though. There will be a day after this one, where I will have to fight for you. And when that day comes, I will fight for you like I have fought the Elite four and just like those fights, there will only be one outcome. Victory.” Conner said as he threw his Pokéball out. Accelgor came out rushed for Machop.

Shelly’s knees weakened at his words. Conner really knew his way with words and even though she might not be able to accept his decision to leave, she was happy to once again see that spark in his eyes and to hear that determination in his voice. “Machop, Smack down!” She yelled out. “Accelgor, Focus blast!” Conner commanded.

‘I’m sorry Shelly..I might not be back for good this time around. But one day I will. And when I am back, I hope you can be proud of the man I've become.’

Post chapter comments: You're probably wondering who won that battle? Right now it's not important. I promise you'll figure that out someday! I was really happy how easy this chapter came out. I just started writing and this was the outcome. Maybe it came out a little dramatic but i really did want Conner to feel like he really needed to make this one last shot count. There is a lot at stake her and he can't afford to fail again! I really hope you enjoyed this chapter!

Chapter 3 – Odd encounter on Route 31!

“Alright Accelgor, back on the road we are!” Conner said as he pumped his fist in the air. “This time for real!” Accelgor was clearly pleased with the change of events. Nothing made him happier than to see his friend in such a good mood. “We’re going to start over. I know I have a couple of badges already, but I’ve earned those years ago. If we’re going to do this right, then we need to work our way up from the bottom again, which means that we’ll be heading to Falkner’s gym.” Conner explained as he noticed a man approaching. He was fairly well dressed, about the same age as he was.

Conner couldn’t quite figure it out, but there was something strange about that guy and as he passed, he noticed the man look at him. He gave a rather smug look which was enough for Conner to stop and turn around for a moment. The man however didn’t bother to do so and continued to make his way for New Bark Town. Conner clicked his tongue and muttered “Douche.” In response to the man’s behaviour before he made a head gesture at Accelgor to continue their journey.
A day passed. Conner had decided to spend the night at the Pokémon Center in Cherrygrove City. Excitement didn’t allow him to sleep a whole lot and it was the reason why he decided to get up at five in the morning to continue to Violet City. He covered the last route on his own to allow Accelgor to get some more rest inside his Pokeball. The clouds kept the road ahead dark. Rain wasn’t helping Conner much either. You would think that a seasoned trainer like him would at least carry around an umbrella.

Conner knew that yet again he had left something or rather someone of great importance behind in New Bark Town. It was the main reason why Conner started to see everything on his path as some sort of test. The mysterious man he had ran into just the day before on his way to Cherrygrove City. He had a slight feeling he had met the man before. Not only was the harsh weather blocking his thoughts, it was also making his walk to Violet City practically impossible. It was all adding up to him. ‘Come on Conner, show a little spine here. It’s just rain.’ He thought to himself as he tried to get himself motivated. It was just getting worse though. He was in an open field. The flood gates of heaven were open. Lightning shot through the sky as the wind started to push Conner away from his destination. “Pidgey’s have a tougher whirlwind than you! Bring it on! Nothing’s going to stop me this time around!” he said, yelling out to no other than Mother Nature.

Grunts came from Conner’s lips as he tried to step forward. Water was pouring from his face down onto his jacket. His clothes were soaking wet and the weather was wearing him down quite badly. He moved his gaze slowly up at the sky. Just as he thought his body was about to give in, the weather suddenly stopped. ‘What the..’ Conner thought to himself as he suddenly heard a rustle coming from the bushes not too far away from him. His hand instinctively went for his Pokéball. ‘A wild Pokémon?’ Conner couldn't be further off. Two figures ran out of the bushes. For a moment their eyes met Conner’s. The two individuals were wearing futuristic outfits. The man had green short hair while the woman had red long hair reaching her shoulders.

Conner was so surprised that he was lost for words. ‘Who are they?’ was the only thing that was on his mind. The two futuristic people appeared to be contemplating something. It didn't take long for Conner to realize what they were planning to do. The man pulled out some sort of futuristic looking pistol and without so much as a warning, he shot Conner. The impact of the beam that came from the gun pushed the air out of Conner’s body. ‘N-no way…’ he thought as he was completely shocked. His body grew heavy and despite his best attempts to try and stay up, he fell onto the ground. His eyes were slowly closing but just before he passed out, he noticed the two running away from something. His eyes just barely registered a four legged creature jumping out of the woods. It was then that Conner passed out.

In his mind, Conner was only out for a split second, but in truth he had been unconscious for just about three days.

“He’s waking up. Hey Conner, can you hear me? I'm nurse joy of the Violet City Pokémon Center.” Said Nurse Joy as she placed her soft hand onto his left shoulder. “Ugh…what the hell happened?” Conner replied as he tried to sit up “Easy there. A trainer found you unconscious just outside of town. Officer Jenny is here as well to interview you.” Conner rubbed the sleep from his eyes and finally noticed Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny standing at the side of the bed. “Interview me? There isn't much to tell. The only thing I remember is running into bad weather when I left Cherrygrove City. I must have passed out or something. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep.” It was an assumption based on what he could remember. Conner couldn't recall the moment where he got shot.

“Officer Jenny here of the CCPD. You said it was raining when you were travelling to Violet City. We found you on Route 31. We haven’t had any bad weather for more than a week. ”Jenny explained as he started to scribble down what she had just heard. Conner shook his head. “No no, that’s not possible. It was definitely raining.” Joy gave a little nod “Rain or not, his clothes were wet according to the trainer that found him.” Jenny tapped her chin “That’s certainly strange. We have reported some odd activity around Violet City lately but nothing similar to this. What were you planning to do in Violet City?” The officer asked as she glanced up from her notepad. “I was heading to Falkner’s Gym.” Replied Conner before he noticed someone knocking on the door. “Oh that must be him.” Said Joy as the door opened.

“I came as soon as I could” Said the man that entered the room. “F-Falkner..” Conner said as he wasn’t expecting to see him. “Holy…Conner is that you man? You’re the trainer they found on Route 31?” Conner gave a mild shrug “Apparently so. I am as surprised as you are.” Falkner approached Conner and extended his hand. “What brings you to Violet City?” Conner shook his hand and smiled “A rematch actually. Let’s just say that I have been preoccupied with other things for the last couple of years.” He explained. “Yeah I remember the gym leaders and I talking about you when we noticed that you never made it through Victory road. You kind of went off the grid there. What happened?” Falkner curiously asked. Conner gave a little sigh “I don’t know….I don’t really want to talk about it.”

Falker raised a brow at that response. “Very well. You’re more than welcome to come see me at the gym once you’ve recovered. Take your time. Meanwhile, Joy and I are going to figure out what exactly happened to you, three days ago.” Falkner gave a little nod at Joy and they both left the room shortly after. “Three days ago?” Conner asked as he saw them walking out. Nurse Joy gave a little nod “Indeed. You have been unconscious for about three days now. Don’t worry about your Accelgor by the way. He is in perfect shape.” Conner blinked “ACCELGOR! Where is he?!” He was shocked about the fact that he had forgotten about Accelgor. Joy gave a little chuckle “Don’t worry, he’s fine. Accelgor was just about as worried as you are right now. You two must be great friends, I’m sure.”

Later on that day, Conner got released from the Hospital and was allowed to see Accelgor. Both of them were incredibly happy to see each other again. Conner decided to stay at the Pokémon Center to recover a little more. Tomorrow would be his Gym rematch against Falkner. Conner spent most of the remaining day sitting in his room, talking with Accelgor to come up with tactics for his oncoming gym match. The events on route 31 were completely gone for the time being.

Post chapter notes: This was definitely a chapter that was more focused onto the introduction of my story's villains. I'm not going to tell you who they are, but i am going to tell you that you're already familiar with them. This chapter is more so a build up towards the next chapter where Conner will be battling Falkner. Stay tuned!
