So I was curious if anyone was affected by the same thing I was this generation, naming all of your Pokemon after a similar theme. It's not generally something I've done before, but I felt like it this time. Initially, it was all sky-themed names, but then I changed it to pseudo-Hungarian words (translating relevant works into Hungarian and then sort of meshing them together to make a nice sounding name, e.g. Shovihar for my Absol that knows Ice Beam, whereas hóvihar is Hungarian for snowstorm).
Thoughts? Similar/wildly different naming schemes? How do you decide on nicknames for your Pokemon?

Mine usually follow one main theme: they're almost all Transformer derived. A few will get anime inspired names--like Casshern, my Bisharp--or some will get something original--like my Golurk, Riser--but it's usually all Transformers names.

You think I kid? My shiny Palkia from Pearl is named VectorPrym.

Some of my Pokémon nicknames belong to various themes. The main themes I used were:

-Greek deities (example: Selene the Musharna, Hephaestus the Arcanine, Demeter the Volcarona)
-Tales series spirits (example: Celsius the Froslass, Undine the Vaporeon, Shadow the Hydreigon)
-Fire Emblem heroes (example: Ephraim the Serperior, Hector the Garchomp, Micaiah the Espeon)
-SMT: Devil Survivor characters (example: Atsuro the Porygon2, Midori the Lopunny, Haru the Altaria)

I may have more.

As for other names, I usually think about what to name my mons, but sometimes I run out of ideas and reuse names like a lazy person. Had a couple Sakuras (Drapion, Zangoose, Gliscor), a few Tiras (Krookodile (traded away), Gothorita (gets renamed), Mawile), a couple Serenas (Gothitelle, Beautifly)...

I name them after their Japanese names (Panzaeron for my Skarmory) or stupid and funny names (Intel i7 for my Metagross, obese dude for my Snorlax)

But then again, I'm not so creative with nicknames -_-

I used to name pokémon completely random things, from names that had special significance to random names that just crossed my mind when the nickname screen popped up. But for X/Y I might just pick a theme or pick themes based on type.

All of my fire pokemon are named after Communist figures. So far I have Stalin, Lenin, and Marx.

Usually inspired by the Pokemon's name. For example, I nicknamed my Chespin "Chester". I also named a Garbodor "Paul" last gen, after an ex boyfriend of mine I hated.

I name most of my pokémon like mythological figures.
For example:
-"Chronos" which is my dialga
-"Selene" which is my cresselia
