Hello all,

I've never been one to give nicknames to my Pokémon, but from what I've seen on this site, many of you do. How common is this?

I nickname, but only to fix something that's bugged me since day one of Red Version-

LUCARIO- Lucario
SALAMENCE- Salamence
BLAZIKEN- Blaziken
STARAPTOR- Staraptor
PALKIA- Palkia
RHYPERIOR- Rhyperior

What do you all do?

Same here, I don't nickname at all
one reason might be because I'm too lazy to think of a nickname...

I haven't really been into nicknames before, but now in Pt I have nicknamed my Pokémon with their trademarked romaji names (like NOCTOWL -> Yorunozuku, BRONZONG -> Dotakun etc.)

I nickname everything. It just always seemed kind of wrong to simply call my Pokemon by their species name...I mean, you don't call a cat or a dog by their breed, you give them a proper name. Why should it be any different with Pokemon?

I usually give nicknames, usually actual names. Like Chloe and Victor, my trademarks.

I nickname all Pokemon that I keep. I feel like it gives them an identity separate from their species, y'know? As well as it marks them as my own. I don't nickname pokemon that I know I'm going to release because I feel terrible afterwards, because in giving a Pokemon a name, I feel like I'm obligated to giving them a home, and releasing them would then make me feel like I just gave that Pokemon "false hope". I know they're technically data and aren't actually real, but with all the ways you can make a Pokemon your own, and because when I play the games I'm imagining myself being actually on that journey, it almost makes them seem real in a sense.

Nicknames I choose usually either have to do with the Pokemon's species, type or what I think suits that Pokemon or sounds cool for that species.

I give all of my Pokemon nicknames. All of them. I feel it's the only way to truly enjoy the game and get close to your Pokemon. Once you give something a name, you become attached to it, giving the game a warm and proud feeling when you watch your Pokemon accomplish difficult feats.

It's one reason I dislike trading over the GTS. People are so dull, never giving their Pokemon nicknames. Just because they aren't keeping their Pokemon don't mean that the receiving person will keep it. >(

I tried at one point to nickname all my Pokémon, but then I got too many and from that point on I just nickname the ones I use. I like nicknaming my Pokémon because it gives them more personality.

eh... I often don't give nicknames

but I do give nicknames to my fire starter, mainly Blaze lol

I never did till recently. First was Shiny Espeon named Thanatos.. Cause P3 is my favorite game. I like mythology. And the god who brings death seemed fitting for what it would become and now is.

this.

Like in XD, i nicknames my eevee/Jolteon, and my first few snags.
lol at de Blob the Swalot

I nickname when I can, but I leave the names in all caps :loopy:

I give nicknames if I can think of one. Occasionally leads to oddities like two Pokèmon having the same name because I have two many.
For instance, I have two Pokèmon named Snowflake (Glaceon and Abomasnow I believe it was) and two named Riley (Marill and Lucario)

I like giving nicknames to all my party members though:3 Unfortunately two of them can't be nicknamed since they come from Pal Park and GTS so they're just MEWTWO and SCEPTILE. (I could have nicknamed Sceptile as he was from my own game-file on Ruby, but I didn't dare to in case I'd change my mind later, so I didn't nickname any of my Pal Park Pokèmon)
My party are:

Daisuke the Infernape (Named after an OC of mine).
Anitarig the Giratina (Named backwards).
Weasley the Floatzel (Named for looking like a weasel... and inspired by Harry Potter)
Rika the Raichu.

I also have some who are named for the lulz, my unown all have pretty idiotic nicknames which can be anything from random names, just symbols or random words.
And Piko the Palkia.

My brother actually wanted to nickname all his Pokèmon to make their names in non-caps, mainly his latest starter which I later brought to my game by Pal Park.
So now I have a Swampert called Mudkip and I can't change the name... Annoying.

I did once have an issue with naming. In silver, all my nicknamed pokemon in my box (meaning every one) had their names swapped. I didn't nickname for a few runthroughs.

I don't know about you guys but I'm gonna name my pokes in my party in the Johto remake game after certain villains I've respected while playing games besides pokemon like Fawful and Bowser (well he's heroish when the world might be destroyed or taken over by someone else)

Yeah, I nickname most of my Pokémon. Usually I give them either human names, pop culture names, or names having to do with their appearance or abilities.

Most of the time, I don't but lately, I've been nicknaming my Pokemon after Jojo's Bizarre Adventure characters. I named my Guardevoir Spice Girl, my Gallade Polnareff, my Flareon Avdol, my Luxray was Mariah and my Magnezone was Bast. If you ever read the manga, those names make a lot of sense. It's really an awesome series and one of my favorites.

I used to name EVERY pokemon I caught. But for some reason I didn't in Platinum :\

But I am planning to name them in Soul Silver.
