Worst Cartoons Ever By Robert Isenberg said:
"Pokémon" had no story, only a Darwinist premise: Ash Ketchum, a young man and aspiring "Pokémon master," travels around with his pet Pikachu, advancing levels as he goes. Ash has a bunch of young friends, and they wander aimlessly, looking for adventure. As a genre, anime cartoons are held in high regard -- for character development, mature themes, complex plots and either smooth animation or really scenic backgrounds. "Pokémon" had none of these qualities. And wasn't not alone: The "Super Mario Bros." and "Pac-Man" cartoons also fell flat, which is what happens when you base a saga on a two-dimensional video game. Now just imagine "Grand Theft Auto: The Animated Series" -- that would be something.

What the fuck is this shit?

How could they allow such rubbish to be published? Seriously?

Yeah, I'd say that's a pretty accurate description to be honest.

I love how they complained about Pokemon having no story but were praising Tom and Jerry, Ren and Stimpy, etc. >___>

Hey, hey, HEY, Goof Troop was FUN. And it produced an awesome movie and a brand new Disney regular who's completely effin' cool (Max~). As for Transformers, yes, it's kind of really bad from an adult's point of view, but that's why it was aimed at little kids. Besides, the best point of view is the one where Starscream is gay for Megatron and you just have to find the hints for it. Enter the Nightbird is so, so good for this purpose. And all the stuff the guy IS praising has no story at ALL. They're enjoyable for the most part, but everything was about one screwing the other up (or, in the case of Ren and Stimpy, it was more like PURE, UNDILUTED AMERICAN CRACK).

That should be enough to disregard anything else this guy writes.

Of course... he's kind of right. Pokemon isn't very big on character development (no matter what I say about James), plot and mature themes. But really. This is kodomo. And it's damn enjoyable.

Pokémon has plenty of enjoyment in the episodes, I still enjoy them even though I'm 16.

Besides, it ain't a kid's show, and if you were paying attention to some things you'd notice. ;) [holy matrimony comes to mind here]

Yeah, it's pretty easy to see how someone can dislike this show. There's a lot about it to nitpick at. But... Pokémon, Transformers (which I never watched, but whatever), and Goof Troop are some of the worst cartoons ever? Wtf? XD To actually believe they're worse than My Gym Partner's a Monkey and all that is laughable.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!! Did they just compare Pokemon to Grand Theft Auto!? Did they just do that!? Good god, no wonder terrorism is so damn popular!

You entirely missed his point. He's saying GTA has complex storylines in comparison to Pokemon and Mario. Also, it's pretty clear he was kidding since there's no way there'd ever be an animated series for it.

GTA has a complex storyline? It's pretty much just "get hired for a mission and blow stuff up". There's no in-depth story.

Just because GTA has complex storylines doesn't make it a good franchise. To me, the GTA franchise, especially the latest one, is just mainstream trend-hopping with each one. Don't tell me you can't see what I mean, either.

EDIT: Yeah, what Geoff said.
EDIT2: And as far as pokemon goes, D/P has a really complex storyline.

Fukken signed.

Now that's a show I think gets alot of grief unfairly.

GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories and GTAIV all say hi.

As I said, none of those games had an in-depth storyline. It was always "kill this guy" or "pick this up for me" or "blow this up". There might be a story, but it's not that in-depth when you compare it to other games.

Hmmm... Maybe you should actually WATCH the show before you comment on it.

Ash has a bunch of young friends, and they wander aimlessly, looking for adventure.

Suuure, especially since they're always heading to a certain area.

Yeah, except for the character development, mature themes, complex plots, smooth animation, and scenic backrounds.

And wasn't not alone: The "Super Mario Bros." and "Pac-Man" cartoons also fell flat, which is what happens when you base a saga on a two-dimensional video game.

Suuuure, and that's EXACTLY why it's gone on for over 500 episodes.

Now just imagine "Grand Theft Auto: The Animated Series" -- that would be something.

Pokemon has more of a contained story episode by episode, simmilar to Looney Tunes, rather then an overarching plot.

Yeah, except for the mature themes, complex plots, smooth animation, and scenic backrounds.
Pokemon NEVER had that.
