Are these the little quiz books that have been released in Japan for every set of games with unique artwork? I've read positive stuff about them.
 
Yup, also known as "4-koma" comics. A 4 panel gag comic usually ordered from top to bottom. One of the sample comics given away at Free Comic Book Day this year had a preview of this comic in it. I picked it up and it was pretty amusing. So I'll be picking up a copy of this when it' released.

I think the English version rearranges the panels so they're in the left-to-right format and in a square.
If this is one of the originals then I guess they did.
