Pokemon Pokopia General Speculation & Discussion

I like the concept of an Animal Crossing-style (or probably another game probably better meets the description, but that's what I think of) Pokemon game. I'm not fond of its blocky art style, though and I'm not fond of the excessive focus on Gen 1 Pokemon there in the beginning. Seems like it eventually becomes more even?

Nevertheless, this looks like something I would like to try!

Gotta get the Gen Wunners, but to be fair, it does attract later Pokémon like Lotad, Combee, Drillbur, Timburr, and Pawmi.

I feel like this was made not because of Minecraft, but because of Dragon Quest Builders (as Koei Tecmo made both of those games and are also making this using presumably the same engine) and the Pokémon Company wanted in on that.

Ahh, what a fun concept! I enjoy the Animal Crossing games so it's nice to see something similar for the Pokémon franchise. It'll be forever before I get a Switch 2, but that should be one reason for me to consider it! :D

Also, this is me.

on one hand i am happy that they are making a new pokemon spin-off game that isn't clearly Just A Mobile Game, but also... i don't know how i feel about this? it looks cute and all but i'm personally (and this is completely subjective) really put off by the player character being a ditto transformed to look like a little chibi person. i would have been a lot happier if you could just... transform into your pokemon friends to use their abilities or whatever. i feel bad about this one aspect putting me off so much but like... it's seriously putting me off. it is actively turning me off from the game and making me not super interested in playing it. that being said, i will probably be more interested once we know more about it or i've seen gameplay of it, i personally find it hard to resist fleshed out pokemon spin-offs, soooo... also the return of talking pokemon characters not being via a new mystery dungeon announcement makes me sad

As someone who has spent far too much time recently tweaking my village in Fantasy Life i, it’s unsurprising that this sort of game is right up my alley.

I am curious to see what more we get of this. So far, it seems simple enough- but I’d love to see even more of a twist on the concept beyond just “it’s comfort food, but with Pokemon.”

So... so so so cute. I forgot how much I love cute Pokémon. I don't have the Switch 2 and I wont have it for a while but as soon as I do, this is a immediate pickup.

The blocks definitely give off Pokémon Quest vibes.

I am however... sorta sad its not Pokemon Rumble... however this is amazing and adorable and so cute.

Ditto has always walked across the uncanny valley, even in merchandise. They always took inspiration from the anime episode WAY back where Duplica's Ditto couldn't recreate faces and made that a canon trait that other Ditto have (even decades later with another Ditto in the anime).
Not for me, I don't like farming games.
Dragon Quest Builders was not exactly a farming game... It's more of a community development sim, although it did have farming elements. You start out in a desolate island with a scenario that depicted characters at the mercy of a blight as the first game saw the Dragonlord forbid development and the second saw Hargon attack anyone who tried to build civilization and revive Malroth (who was in a human form most of the game), and worked on turning things around. The games also incorporated DQ combat with enemies, so I assume they'll try to have Pokémon battles and catching mechanisms in this one.

If I had to guess, there will be multiple places you visit, as well as generic areas to gather resources and even sandlots to build what you want.

i understand this! it's not that i'm not aware of the precedent for the concept. i just don't like it in any case. it's purely a subjective thing - it's an uncanny valley i don't enjoy and that doesn't wrap back around to being funny or endearing to me. not to yuck other people's yum though, i'm glad other people are enjoying it and finding it cute

My issue with Pokopia is how they made a literal Minecraft clone

Also tbh this game is kinda uncanny

easily my favorite thing out of the direct. i'm super excited for this! i always wanted pokemon to try their hand at a cozy life sim, and this looks like a great take on one so far, with a cute twist in the form of the ditto protagonist. they're soooo cute, i love their silly animations (especially the shot of them using leafage and posing with their goofy vine-arms like "yay, i did it!"). unless the reviews are drastically terrible or something this is an easy day 1 purch—

oh it's a switch 2 exclusive

well there goes that. i'll still keep an eye on this game, though, because i'm the exact target audience for it

Hate that it's only for Switch 2. Not paying 500 quid for a animal crossing ripoff
