I'd thought I would start this thread to talk about correct Pokémon pronunciations. Of course, some Pokémon's pronunciations are obvious (Pikachu, Mew, etc), but others are less obvious.

For example, do you pronounce Dialga Dee-al-gah, or Die-al-gah? The same could be said for Arceus- Arse-e-us, or Arc-e-us?

Well, how are they pronounced in the movies? Isn't that the official pronunciation?

I don't even pronounce "Pokémon" correctly let alone some of the actual names.

Lugia for example. I've heard the anime pronounciation, but I will always say it as Loo-g-ah instead of Loo-gee-ah.

^^^
I pronounce Pidgeot Pid-gee-ot, is it is spelt 'Pidgeot', not 'Pidgit'.

I go with the anime pronunciations. I used to say Bonsly as "bon-slee" but I go with its official pronunciation.

I think the pidgeot/pidgeot thing is more a matter of how fast you say it.

I pronounce Totodile as 'Tot-Oh-Dail' since the first half of it's name is quite obviously derived from the word 'Tot'. It also makes the full name sound much closer to 'crocodile', thus making for a pretty good pun.
The official pronounciation of 'Toe-Toe-Dail' just doesn't make any sense. Not sure where they pulled that one from.

I also tend to pronounce Lugia as 'Luhg-ee-ah', and that sort of carried over from how everyone in the schoolyard used to say it. Plus I get an excuse to nickname the pokemon 'Big Lug' in the games.

I used to call Kyogre "Keeh-yo-greh" but nowadays I pronounce it "Kay-o-ger".

At first the latter spelling felt weird, but soon I just got used to it after hearing it used like that so much.

Also another one to mention. Dewgong.

I use the British English pronunciation of "Dew" so it sounds odd when I say it compared to the correct pronunciation of the name.

I'm Welsh, so my accent's really thick, and I also mis-read words sometimes as is the Welsh language (For example, 'll' sounds like a mixture of 'l' and 'ch' in Welsh, so that's how I read them) meaning I probably pronounce words radically different. I'll try a few examples which I think are different;

Dialga: Die-al-guh
Carvanah: Car-var-nuh
Gyarados: Gih-ra-dus
Gorebyss: Gohr-biss (I dunno if the correct is Go-Rey-Biss? I don't pronounce the 'e')
Arceus: Are-see-us
Pidgeot: Pid-jioet
It's kinda obvious if you've heard a Welshie talk, but we put emphasis on the first or second syllable in a word, distorting it quite a bit. Especially pokemon like Gyarados. I beleive the correct would be (Gee-are-ah-dose)?

Another one I tend to do which I know is wrong, is Seviper I pronounce ser-vihp-uh, putting an 'r' in. I can't say it properly otherwise, I always have to put stupid accents on. ):

I do the same thing.
The other one I have a problem with is Gyarados. Is it me, or do they not say it how its spellt?

I know it's wrong and I don't even know where I picked it up from, but I call Rayquaza "Ruh-QUAY-zuh".

For the ones that I can, I just look at the Japanese pronunciation and use that (which is why I HATE the official pronunciation of Arceus).

How is Suicine pronouced?

I pronounce it Sue-ih-seen, but a friend of mine says Swee-cune

Not a big fan of the movies or anime, so I don't really know.

Dialga: Dee-Al-Guh
Arceus: Ar-key-us
Kyogre: Kai-ogre
Suicune: Soy-coon
Pidgeot: Pidgey-ot
Rayquaza: Ray-Qua-Zah
Porygon-Z: Porygon Zee (Although being British, I should say Porygon-Zed)

Also, I have to say it, because apparently it's a common mistake:
Dusknoir: Dusk-Nu-Ar Standard French Pronunciation)

It's Swee-cune.

I don't watch the anime either, but I remember hearing it on an advertisement.

But for the longest time, I was pronouncing it the same way that you are.

I'm another one of those who has a problem with a ton of the American/English pronunciations form the commercials/anime.

I feel names like Rayquaza and Arceus should be derived from the Japanese pronunciation, they make a ton more sense.

Suicune: Swee-coon
Arceus: Ar-see-us
Dialga: Dee-al-guh
Gyarados: Gya-ruh-dos
Dusknoir: Dusk-nwar
Kyogre: Kai-o-gur
Rayquaza: Ray-kwa-za
Raikou: Rai-ko

How is Scizor pronounced? Sih-zor or Sai-zor?
